Chrom
http://nintendoeverything.com/super-mario-run-will-require-an-online-connection-to-work/ This is...unexpected. Not that this bothers me personally, but I wonder how others may react to this. Quote Link to comment
Doc Brown
Really Nintendo? Well there goes a lot of people. A lot of them are on limited bandwidth. Gravitas 1 Quote Link to comment
Fuzzer1
Always online? Better not be in the Switch as a requirement for playing single player mode a la SimCity 2013. But could it work on a person's Wi Fi? Edited December 9, 2016 by Fuzzer1 Quote Link to comment

Especially once I move to just having wifi (just 250gb a month -- I think it's the same with cable and it for what it's worth). It's a lot, but yet... it gets used enough that it adds up. Good question. Quote Link to comment
CCH
In other words, they want to be able to monitor the game to detect hackers and people using root, same as Pokémon Go. Aside from the "network saves" bit, the only reason they could ask for an internet connection is to validate the game and make sure you're not editing your saves or otherwise cheating... Eliwood8
Seems kinda lame to have this in a mobile game, but then I don't play many mobile games so I don't know how problematic this really is. Quote Link to comment

Ugh. Definitely passing on this one. Quote Link to comment

alienboyva
I get why they want to do this, but it still kinda sux. I just hope it doesn't eat up too much data or batt. Quote Link to comment
Erdrick
Like Miitomo, this sucks. Quote Link to comment
Spring
that's not even weird or unexpected really, a ton of modern mobile games require that im probably not gonna get it anyway but this isn't something that would dissuade me if i was Quote Link to comment
Chrom
Super Mario Run is like many other mobiles games with heavily integrated social features so yeah naturally it makes sense that it really only works when you're online, though ideally I think it would be nice if the convenience of enjoying the game offline didn't need to be compromised. After all, most people are used to not needing a connection to play a Mario game on the go. Quote Link to comment
Sheri
Can't say I'm surprised or bothered. Most mobile games, even ones that feel very single-player require online connection. Very par for the course. Edited December 9, 2016 by Sheri Quote Link to comment
Penance Fracture
I can understand the social media portions of the app requiring this for obvious reasons, but why the actual game? Quote Link to comment
Erdrick
If you all need a connection to play your mobile games, then I'm glad I'm playing the right games. Quote Link to comment
Igneous42
Luckily I had zero interest in this anyways. But just don't use this in console single player experiences. Quote Link to comment
Pernicious Pastry
I do believe Sonic Runners required online to work as well and that game is similar in that it's... Well, a mascot runner. Manage your 4G wisely. Quote Link to comment
ace
I mean just about all mobile games need an internet connection for half of the features to function properly. This doesn't really bother me because I can't see it using that much data. I don't know if I'll buy it anyway because as good as this looks I just don't play many games on my phone. The Guardian Mew
The impressions I've seen so far have been "Meh..." I wish I could say that gave me hope that it'd flop and Nintendo would move away from mobile, but I know better. I forgot this game was under a free to start model. I'd still rather see the next console Mario fair far better, but as long as they keep things going with a 'buy and enjoy' pay model I don't mind their mobile games being successful. It's certainly better to see them do well and this kind of pay model continue. Edited December 9, 2016 by The Guardian Lycanroc Quote Link to comment
