I miss the Trauma Center/Team series

Recommended Posts

Not sure who else had the opportunity to play any of the games in the series, whether on DS or Wii, but it was definitely a unique kind of experience that hasn't been revisited since.  My brother and I played through Second Opinion and Trauma Team on Wii but still have to finish New Blood, but we've enjoyed each and every experience.

My personal favorite, Trauma Team, though is the framework I'd like to see them build off of if a new game was ever made.  The option to work with multiple specialists created a lot of cool and unique scenarios both from a gameplay and story perspective.  A big part of it being my favorite is how much tension there was even before getting to the operating table with some of your patients.  Just hearing the story and trying to piece together everything and then discovering more hints as to what is going on mid-operation was pretty cool.

The tension of being in an operation and having things go awry right as you think you're near the end was cool too.  I still remember one mission where you're trying to neutralize and remove disease spreading polyps and right as you're about to remove the last one, it suddenly bursts and all of the surrounding tissue becomes dark and diseased.  Completely changes the approach and also adds weight to the story because you're dealing with one patient yet there's an entire city of people on the brink of going through the same process if they're infected.

The odds of it seeing a return are slim, especially when the series started at such a high and tapered off with Trauma Team being the lowest selling in the series, but maybe a return after 11 years of absence could do it some good?

I knew this series exist but I just never gave it a try, it looked appealing aesthetic wise but I thought this gameplay wouldn't be something for me. But the way you describe Kezay sounds appealing gamewise now.

It's funny my first Tales game was Symphonia, I didn't care for the gameplay but bought the game for the anime cutscences, so when I see that next tales was Abyss for some reason like Trauma Centre Team, it look aesthetically cool but never seem interesting. (that and I never owned a PS2, lol) I eventually played Abyss on 3DS and no regrets.

So what I am getting at is that I want to correct past misjudgements on games I never took a chance on so I guess Trauma Team is on that list. Is there anywhere besides the platforms they came on I can get elsewhere and were their 3 of titles in the series?

It's definitely a game that might take some real research and consideration to get into if you already weren't into visual novel-esque games prior.  I can certainly say that if it weren't for the DS and having a series like Ace Attorney really blow up with positive reception that this would be a genre that I might have been even more delayed in getting into.  But thanks to games like that and the Layton series I eventually decided to give it a try and found a lot to like within it as well.  Now that I think about it, I don't think any game in this series ever got a demo for people to try out.  It's possible one of the DS games may have had one but you would have had to go into a store like GS or TRU and download the demo from a kiosk.

Anyway, your reason for getting into Symphonia (anime cutscenes) was a partial factor for me as well.  But I also had to good fortune of being part of a gaming forum back in the day who really hyped up some, at the time, upcoming Namco projects for Gamecube like Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos.  If it weren't for him, while I'm sure I would have gotten Symphonia I definitely would not have developed the interest in BK that I did at the time.  I eventually would go back and track down Phantasia for GBA and start continuing with the series from then on out.

As for your last question, I think the Wii Trauma series of games made its way to the Wii U but other than that I don't think it has been carried over elsewhere.

It's interesting you bring up the Ace Attorney with its visual novel style game, I don't know why till this day why I jump aboard to the series honestly. I think it was fates work that lead me to the game to play out of nowhere I love till this day. (looking forward to great ace attorney this Tuesday) In the same era with of GBA games, I know why went into Mega Man Battle Network series; it's Mega Man and a new spin in a RPG way. I think I mentioned this before but I've played the ace attorney crossover Layton game on 3DS, that was my first taste at a Layton game. I enjoyed what I played of his portion but since then I can't or won't still play the Layton games. Tho it is visual novel, that doesn't always means I'll like it. It always comeback to the gameplay and I like puzzles but brainteasers are not my cup of tea to do for long much less for a series or to follow its story.

I will look into getting the game Wii Trauma game on Wii U. I am curious to see what is all about and see if this is Ace Attorney to me or Layton.

Played Trauma Team for the first this year because my girlfriend wanted me to experience the game. Fantastic game, easily in my top 5 Wii games. Enjoyed every bit besides how Naomi's stages can drag sometimes.

As for the Trauma series these days, I can't think of where it belongs. I think it could be replicated with VR, but I can't imagine Atlus investing in a VR game of a niche series.

I would of look for this game on Wii U soon after my post but my Wii U is on display with my other consoles, just not plugged into anything. And just thinking to fetch that seem like a chore. I had some time doing nothing the last hour and thought to setup my Wii U, my external HDD, HDMI, and AC adapter to the Wii U are all a go but I cannot locate the AC adapter for the GamePad. About 2 years ago I change around my setup for my entertainment room (I change scenery when I get bored nothing more) and I decided not because I don't play the Wii U much but thought to save energy and outlets to plug out all associated things with Wii U, in doing so I vaguely remember putting the AC adapter for the GamePad elsewhere in phanypack thing in the room tucked away somewhere. I know in the time put away I have on rare occasion without reason for the Wii U looked for the phanypack but I can't recall where it is. With so much time passed sine then and no luck in the past attempts, I give up. I can turn on the Wii U but I have no way legitimately to navigate on the system without charging my Wii U GamePad. I have a little OCD so it is sort of odd that I don't know where I put these things at even if I change up a room.

Well It cost in total with shipping about $30 to get a refurbished Wii U AC adapter, it might get here by or after my b-day (8/10) and I found the game on the Wii U eShop from Nintendo website and it cost $28.19 CDN. When all said and done I would of spent close to $60 to get thru all of this. Which is how much games in Canada used to cost normally back in 2014. Not much big deal, just the digging and wondering where I put this pouch is a bother, that's all.

Nah, it's okay. I haven't played it yet. I didn't anticipated how busy last week was my life usual is in a week much less a b-day one. That and any free time I had, I played new games. Things are lowly down now so I should have more time to play the new game and Trauma Team. I'll let you know, I actually didn't want to post till I did play but thought to give you an update when I do plan to play it.

@Kezay: Well, I said I would get around to play the game I purchased off Wii U eShop over a month ago. I kept procrastinating in playing this game with all the titles that released for Switch this summer. I have finished some but today I worked out today (the first time in a while) and for some reason when I do that, my day just has more structure in long overdo things or just doing something right away.

Anyways, so I started playing the first 2 episodes of Maria Torres. First off VA is okay but the tone couldn't be more corny. (and I am corny guy but no to direction of tone of some scenes) I first started to play as resident for the first 2 episodes but on episode 2 I had to play as intern. Like I am seconds away from completing the 2nd episode as a resident but I can only move so fast and carefully. I memorized the patterns till I only have one patient left every time on resident after taking care of 3 patients, where I run into trouble is the patient that need multiple white bandages, that is somewhat easy to do but to milt-task that antibiotics and the tweezers is just troublesome. I think I haven't moved fast enough earlier cause at that part I am running low on time. I think what took the most time is using the tweezers to get the glass out, you gotta be really careful. The whole using scissor to open shirt, I can do that in my sleep but it means nothing if you don't move faster in the first stage that you need to time in the last stage.

Yeah, once I put it on intern it was a breeze with so much time. Glad I played that 2nd episode, I wasn't sure how I would get pulled into the game but I see the appeal even tho I had my hear beating like a jackhammer as I run out of time to do the task I needed to do. Obviously I have background, experience or degree as a doctor but this how they feel all the time?!? It's one thing to watch House M.D. and another thing to actual simulate it in a video game, huh?

I'll just stick to the Hasbro Operation, I don't care if it for kids, it is what I am comfortable with, dammit!
