Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity announced

Recommended Posts

They did mention working alongside the Zelda team for dialogue and whatnot, seems like this may be as close to canonical as we're likely to get for the Great Calamity. Though I suppose that would mean the game might end with our heroes losing and dying—bleak!

Anyway this was quite a surprise for a Tuesday morning. I'm definitely looking forward to this; Musou games are repetitive but I still enjoy them a lot, and even just seeing these Zelda characters again has me hyped up. I'll gladly take any excuse to dive back into the world of BotW. I'm curious how much content this game will actually have though. The original Hyrule Warriors had a good amount but the Definitive Edition spoiled me, and it'd be nice to get to that point without tons of additional DLC costs.

And I'm okay with that ending!

As for DLC and content, I'd rather them really focus on the story and events of the Calamity War than go all fanfic-y like the first one (which I LOVED, but it was its own story and worked that way). A secondary story would be nice though.

Imagine farming for hours trying to get a 5-star weapon with 8 slots.

Imagine spending several more hours grinding kills to unlock skills on other weapons.

Imagine spending thousands of Rupees at the Smithy to transfer those skills to your 5-star, 8-slot weapon.

Imagine finally taking your perfect weapon out to battle against a massive army.

It lasts about thirty seconds before it breaks.

You fuck off with that.

Woot!

I'm hype incarnate for this game, what a development. I want this game to be canon, it has to be canon as it tells the story of the Champions and Hyrule army fighting Calamity Ganon.

Tho, I wonder how they gonna break up battles as from BotW it seems pretty short but that's what you get with segmented story telling especially when it only was from Link's perspective. Cool as it was, we wanted more of what went down when Calamity Ganon appeared. What I wanted to see specifically in this game is what happened at the Akkala Citadel, seem like some shit when down there.

Comes out this holiday Nov 20, 2020 and another update on this game on Sept 26th.

I wonder if there will be voice acting this game? If there isn't that's okay, just curious.

Fuck, that's turn off I'd like to forget.

Right it SEEMS short. But we don't see a lot of what happens. The Champions all need to reach their DBs. Ganon didn't possess the Guardians immediately (or else the Champions wouldn't have entered the DBs at all as they'd be in his control), so there's bound to be a lot of minion battles that happened before Calamity possessed all the tech. Then there's the possessed tech battles. Possibly some self-sacrificing battles of the Champions in their DBs. An escort mission of Link from Akkala to Resurrection Shrine. Zelda getting from Akkala to Lost Woods. Zelda going from Lost Woods to Hyrule Castle for final battle.

What a great surprise! Was this ever suggested through the typical rumour mill? If not, the lack of leaks is a pretty neat feat these days, apparently.

I am definitely looking forward to this. It’s funny I have been debating getting the Definitive Edition of Hyrule Warriors for a while (had it on WiiU), but now I think I’ll just skip that and get this one. Has the potential to be really good.

As to whether or not it will be canon, based on how Aonuma describes the partnership between the two studios in the reveal video, I am practically certain the intent is to have this be canon. The intent is clearly to beef out the story of the calamity 100 years prior, so I see no reason they would then turn around and call it an “alternate story” or whatever.

I skipped out on Definitive since I bought the super special editions and season passes for both WiiU and 3DS and basically completed both 100% that a third visit seemed unnecessary.

Totally understandable, tho I triple deep and only 100% percent Wii U and 3DS with the DLC, I didn't do so with Switch.

I'm pretty sure the Switch version was on sale a few times but I see the price wasn't that much of issue is just purchasing it again, no matter how much you enjoy the game there's a limit how many times you like when it gets to be too much.

Hm, I don't know, breakable weapons could be an interesting feature in a Musou game. They'd probably have to scrap the whole unlocking skills and combining weapons system, since yeah it'd be super frustrating to spend so much time on making an ideal weapon only to lose it, but I'm picturing defeating a lynel then turning around and using its weapons to wreck hordes of bokoblins and that sounds pretty satisfying, and needing to keep moving around the battlefield to find another weapon to use feels like it fits the Musou style.

I dunno... it worked for me in BotW for the most part, but I still am having a hard time seeing it for this. Breakable weapons seems to me too cumbersome in a 1 vs 1000 environment.

And yes, thanks both @EH_STEVE and @DLurkster, you hit the nail on the head for what I meant.

I was waiting till we get a date for BotW 2 to play the 2nd part of the DLC for BotW but this game is good as any to start now.

You don't know how hard for the last 2+ years I had to avoid videos that show cutscenes of the Champions of the Ballad. I had to either avoid such videos altogether or skip a part if the parts I skip something I needed hear, I had to avoid, that dream can be realized to play that DLC and avoid any videos with scenes from the DLC.

I'm so happy with tears right now.

This was a nice surprise today - i liked the one on Wii U, so will be getting this one at some point (though i should probably pre-order off the Eshop...)

Though BoTW  is one of the games i still haven't bought (and DLC by extension)

Speaking of the first one, i should get around to buying the definitive edition on Switch

Never got around to buying any of the DLC for the Wii U version, nor did i ever bother with the 3DS version since i wasn't sure if it was even worth buying at the time

Speaking of that, i wonder if we'll see any DLC at some point? Just a curious thought, although it might be too early to speculate on that...

Hyrule Warriors: DE is not on sale right now but you didn't do the DLC or got the 3DS one. I'd say get this game when it goes on sale it's good now with all the DLC and content from the 3DS here but still alot to ask if played a little or finished the game on Wii U at full price on Switch.
