Is EA finally making a play for the Switch crowd?

Recommended Posts

So yeah, I've aired my grievances regarding EA's support of Nintendo platforms post Wii-era but I'm curious if now they're really trying to make a play owners of Switch.  Not too keen yet on giving them too much credit as they have once again provided a "Legacy" edition of the only sports title they're willing to put on Switch (Fifa) and the most recent title from them is a Burnout Paradise remaster. (don't get me wrong, apparently it's a solid port of an amazing game) There are also titles from smaller studios that they're publishing or having published already.

With their event last week they announced that Apex Legends is also coming to Switch complete with the updates and crossplay support that the other platforms are receiving.  It's not exactly a megaton announcement but is probably one the biggest showings of support they've provided for Switch thus far.  As mentioned, I'm not yet ready to clap for them considering the level of support they've already brought over and announced after three years since Switch launched.  I'd be more convinced if we actually start seeing Switch games based on the Star Wars property or sports games outside of Fifa, for instance.  However, I'm now actually curious and am waiting to see what else they may have waiting in the wings.  Giving the benefit of a doubt now, if you will.

GoNintendo: EA says they're bringing games to Switch to let players play where they want, making a big push for cross-play

The more games on the Switch the better, so I'm happy EA is putting a little more effort into supporting the Switch, even if most of these games I'm not interested in (I am excited for Lost in Random though, since it's developed by Zoink Games and they've made a lot of fun titles in the past). I'm not gonna hold my breath for wild displays of support, though, such as original games or exclusive games. At best I expect the last three EA games to be revealed to be remasters/ports of older, high profile games like maybe the Dead Space trilogy.

It'd be nice if some of these games ended up being new releases that actually run/look well on Switch and have ALL the same features as the XB and PS versions. ...Even better would be the Star Wars games, like Fallen Order and the recently announce Squardens. If we can get games like The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and DOOM 2016 that all run/look well on Switch, then there's no reason why we can't the Star Wars games. Plus, Virtuous says they're ready to start bringing XBSX/PS5 games to Switch.

I wouldn't be surprised if most of these end up being ports of old games that are sold at full price, while you can get them dirt-cheap elsewhere. If any end up being new releases, they'll probably be missing features and look/run like ass on Switch. Then EA will go to their investors and use all this as an excuse to as why Nintendo fans don't by their games, so they don't have to support Nintendo systems and can continue being bias toward Nintendo. Sorry, I don't have much faith in EA supporting the Switch after the whole Wii U launch fiasco, where they sold Mass Effect 3 at full price, while PS/XB got the trilogy at the same price. Then when it sold like crap, they were like "Only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo Systems!"

*Sigh* I miss the old (00's) EA... :(

I'm can see where @Eliwood8 & @Kezay are both coming from. I won't hold my breath to what EA may offer but at the same and grateful all the same that we are seeing some imitative from EA with actual numbers of titles and not waiting to see what comes to Switch.

Most view EA with this saying in life; 'Too little, too late', while I'm a believer of this saying in life; 'Better late than never'. That is why I said I can both sides because  of the argument with EA for the better and the worse and tho I feel their effort up to this point was. 'Too little, too late;, I gotta give them my, 'better late than never'.

Here's what the other EA games coming to Switch are...

Nice to see Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville. Speaking of PopCap games, it'd be cool to see a Bejeweled, Peggle, Zuma, and/or Plants vs. Zombies hit the Switch. I remember DSiWare had quite a few PopCap games. Though, that was before EA bought PopCap and started putting their games on mobile with microtransactions.

Also, I'm surprised there's no Sims. With how well Animal Crossing sold on Switch, you'd think EA would wan't to get in on that and port over The Sims 4.

If those other games coming are legit I wonder what the EA Original title will be if they have former Vicarious Visions people looped in.  Would like it if the Dragon Age games made it over or even Dead Space or the Mass Effect Trilogy.  Would love to see more new content of course but I'd like to see games that Nintendo platforms missed out on get a chance there.
