purple_beard
Interesting events at work this week as... over the last 8 work days roughly 1 positive a day at minimum and a few days hit 4.... in different areas of the plant.... so this afternoon with about 2 hours to go before we left my manager comes around passing the word that come Monday everyone regardless of vaccination status goes back to mandatory mask wearing protocols we were on pre-vaccine roll out/change with CDC mask guideline change a few months ago. FWIW, the managers aren't able to divulge if the affected persons were vaccinated or not, and to my understanding, all positives had shown symptoms--so not false positives. Also, at least around my way... depending on the place of business some have started new mask rules so to speak as I saw a local Shoe Carnival have a new sign posted about CDC wanting even vaccinated people to wear masks inside. Now, as far as that goes, it doesn't seem to be too enforced and of the places I have been in I haven't noticed any other sign changes so.... Quote Link to comment
Kodiack
We detected one new community case for the first time in several months, so New Zealand has gone into full alert level 4 lockdown for several days at a minimum. This is the first time in over a year that we've been at this level. I already work from home so I could continue working, but I was supposed to be on leave starting today, with some big plans over the next week. I was feeling really bummed about the timing. We had some of our biggest plans cancelled this time last year as well, and it's disappointing it's happened again. Work has thankfully given me time off still, and even better they've said I don't have to burn any leave balances for it - it's just free paid days off. The support and reassurance from my team and the company as a whole is exceptional. I genuinely love it here. Alert level 4 was definitely the right call, given what a game-changer the delta variant has been. This is especially apparent when looking at the situation in New South Wales, and this morning some close contacts of the case also tested positive. I'm confident we'll stamp Covid out again and be back to a comfortable, free lifestyle. Next week I'm eligible to book in my Covid jab as well. Gonna be arranging that as soon as I'm able. Thankfully this also gives me some extra time to get some site upgrades and maintenance done. My schedule has certainly become a mess compared to what has been planned, but I'm taking the opportunity to get on top of other life admin things. Quote Link to comment
Doc Brown
Wow. This is a very concerning thread dealing with DeSantis and other politicians and deals with Regeneron. Quote Link to comment
Tyranogre
Okay, I can't fucking take this anymore. Guys, I need serious help. My best friend is an anti-vaxxer. He also has a lot of other political opinions that I disagree with, but that's not important. What's important is that he's spreading a lot of misinformation about the vaccine on Facebook, to the point where I can barely even check my cousin's wedding anniversary photos without being bombarded by his alarmist "THE GUBMINT WANTS TO TAKE AWAY MY RIGHTS" bullshit. Here's some of the shit that he keeps sharing (WARNING: Some of it is extremely tasteless, but none of it is NSFW): Spoiler (in response to certain venues requiring proof of vaccination before being allowed entry) (apparently this video is from a guy who opposes CRT, but I don't know enough about cock and rall torture to form an educated opinion on it, so I'm just going to focus on the ant-vax issue instead) Two of his own posts, with his name cropped out: I'm at the end of my fucking rope. This shit has got to fucking stop. I don't want him to die of the virus, nor do I want him to go to prison for whatever anarchist bullshit he tries to pull off in defense of his "freedoms". Please understand, I would not be making this post if I didn't care about him. It'd be one thing if this were some random Karen from a Trump-supporting state or whatever, but it's not. This is my best friend of 21 years who I went to 5th grade together with. I was going to be the best man at his wedding. The godfather of his children. Is there any hope for me to convince him that he's being a fucking dumbass and to get the vax, or am I going to have to settle for speaking at his funeral? bel
man I don't even know, they sound pretty far gone... It seems like most of their motivation seems to come from an anti-government feeling so maybe try arguing against that. they seem pretty into the conspiracy stuff though so that's tough... bel
you could try approaching it like this but the old guy in this video is a lot less antagonistic to start out with so idk the really hard part is when they're into the conspiracy stuff... Quote Link to comment

bel
I'm not an epidemiologist obvs but wouldn't any new strain have to outcompete Delta? Seems pretty unlikely since Delta is so crazy contagious and isn't it entirely possible there could be a crazy transmissible mutation but it was way milder...
