But the Arise series wasn't... That was pretty solid even if I thought how the story with the Major played out was divisive for me in the way that played out. I know the live action movie wasn't considered good by a lot of fans so I did leave that one out LOL. Granted, I liked what they wanted to do and some of the story elements, and I don't have a problem with Scarlet Johanson being considered bad ass enough to do it--I do think it should have been an Asian female based on where the story takes place. April
I dropped Arise quickly. It just seemed like a total mess. I couldn't get into it at all. Quote Link to comment

I kind of get and don't get where you are coming from on that.... It was like some weird prequel to how it all started once it played out fully ending with movie tied to it. Quote Link to comment
April
It's a "prequel" but it contradicts the entire rest of the franchise and that bothered me a lot too. Quote Link to comment
bel
Looks pretty decent. I like that the motions are a bit more fluid. Usually CG anime is pretty choppy and stiff. Quote Link to comment
bel
lol funimation dropped ishuzoku reviewers last ep was probably too spicy Quote Link to comment

I have no idea but in this case they licensed an ecchi show, hired voice actors and started dubbing and translating it, aired 3 entire episodes and then at that point decided to go oh shit nvm lol Quote Link to comment

Tyranogre
I say this as someone who goes to a lot of conventions and has met countless voice actors (many of whom are the nicest people you'll ever meet): I 100% agree that what Funimation did was wrong. However, if we stop supporting them, then the translators and voice actors will also lose their jobs. How can we, as consumers, make our voices heard that we don't condone Funimation's actions, while still supporting the people who bring us the anime that we love? Quote Link to comment
bel
If you don't want to support Funi or CR but still support the industry you could buy figs or other merch I pay for Crunchyroll every month but I still pirate everything I watch bc their player sucks, chaotic neutral lol Quote Link to comment
blcdude1
I would suggest the first sentence of your post provides a partial answer to the question: conventions. Conventions are definitely a way to support the industry at large, as well as individual voice actors, artists or specific vendors. This is obviously not an ideal answer. Frankly, Funimation and Crunchyroll dominate the American market. If you watch anime, it's hard to avoid them. Quote Link to comment
April
seeing a bunch of anime nerds up in arms about this, acting like they're being forced into illegal downloading knowing damn well they mostly do that in the first place is really something else lol. funimation cancelling a show because it's too degenerate for them is way better than heavy censorship anyway. putting fired in quotes with "rumor" in the title really doesn't help things. most likely the translator is freelance and will find other jobs. if it's in-house, there's no way they'd have separate translators hired formally for each show that are let go for one dropped project Quote Link to comment

In all fairness, "fired" is a quote. However, it's a quote from an anonymous Funimation forums poster with the username ShortyGal1105. Where did ShortyGal1105 get their information? They won't tell us. Which is to say, running the headline like that is irresponsible. A journalist should work to ensure their work is accurate, fair and thorough, and quoting an anonymous user from the Funimation forum isn't any of those things. Verification is something that should happen before reporting a story like this. Write first and ask questions later, says the internet journalist. It needs to stop. Quote Link to comment

Stephen 776
So, did like everyone think this anime was ecchi only to realize it was hentai or what? admittedly, I'm not following the story that closely, so that's my surface level understanding of it. Quote Link to comment

It's show about a fantasy universe where monster girls and other demi-humans exist (think Laguz from Fire Emblem, except permanently in human form), and the protagonists visit brothels so they can figure out which species of demi-humans are the most fun to fuck. Despite the premise, the manga was serialized in a shonen magazine, and apparently it's sort of like Spice and Wolf in that the fanservice is meant to draw in readers before introducing them to the interesting worldbuilding and some other subject that the author finds interesting (economics/inter-species relationships). What probably set Funimation off were the sex scenes. You see, while they're no stranger to dubbing fanservicey shows where characters would take baths together or rub sunscreen on each other, sometimes with uncensored erect nipples, but part of the humor of those shows comes from the factor of "ha ha, it looks like these characters are having sex, but they're really doing something else". In this show, however, there's no denying that the characters are actually having sex. While they don't show the dicks or any actual penetration, there is still a lot of nudity, and given that one of the characters is a loli futanari angel with a running gag of her balls hanging out from under her skirt, Funimation probably decided that it would've been too difficult to distinguish it from actual porn. The problem, therefore, is that it should've been their responsibility to do their research on what the show was actually about, before they licensed it and hired a localization staff to dub it. As a result, the translators and voice actors are missing out on a 3-month job without getting paid for the work they already did on dubbing the first two episodes. Instead of canceling the show, they could've released the rest of it sub-only, or sold the rights to a different studio who's more comfortable with explicit content (for example, Media Blasters, who produced the dub of Queen's Blade).
