Mario Kart Racing Association - 2020 Season

Recommended Posts

The sponsorships are now in place for all newly promoted teams in the MKRA this season.

Crash and Coco Bandicoot, who have spent much of the last week doing fundraising for relief efforts in Australia due to the horrifying wildfires there, announced that they have agreed in principle with Australian mining conglomerate BHP.  Their team will be known as BHP Bandicoot.

Chrom and Lucina have agreed with Canadian banking giant Scotiabank.  Their team will be called Scotiabank Sword.

Conker and Timber have signed with Dutch brewing giant Heineken.  Their team is called Heineken Party Animals.

The MKRA is expected to drop the 2020 schedule within the next couple days.  These new sponsorships are likely to put some pressure on the schedule makers, as now 11 countries are represented in the MKRA sponsorship family.  After some speculation last fall that the MKRA was going to contract the number of events in the human world in 2020, the odds of that seems fairly small now.

I’m sorry if I worried you guys.  It’s been somewhat of a trying week...I started a new job 10 days ago, and have been doing some career training along with getting to work on my first novel.  I’ve been doing a lot of running too in the mild spring like weather.  A lot on the plate but it’s all good...will contribute here as I can between now and the start of the new NBL/NAFA/MKRA seasons

No worries.

Wait a second. First novel? Are you now an aspiring author if I'm getting this correctly?

That is correct.  The book I started working on 2 weeks ago is an adventure title that might make a decent movie or video game.  I’ve written video game fan fiction for years but this will be my first original work.

Between being an aspiring author, a factory buyer/planner, a marathoner, and a Nintendo sporting commissioner, it’s always interesting being Tm3.

Better do what you can to avoid being burned out.

Can't wait for the 2020 MKRA schedule.

Tomorrow is MKRA Opening Day at the Luigi's Mansion Battle Arena...per tradition the MKRA driver champion from the previous season hosts the opening event, which for the first time won't be a grand prix race but instead a battle arena.  So often these battles end up being times where competitors settle old scores or base their actions based on the driver or constructor's standings at the time.  But with this battle taking place on opening day, there won't be any reason for drivers to act in a certain manner.  It's going to be a free for all...just the way it ought to be.

This battle will have somewhat of a new format.  42 drivers will be divided into 7 groups of 6 each.  The top 2 drivers in each first round contest will advance to the semifinals.  The 3rd place finishers will enter a play-off round battle where the top 2 will take the final 2 semifinal spots.  From there, it will be more traditional 4-way contests with the semifinal winners advancing to the final.

12 points for me and 9 for Daisy. Solid battle round to start the season.

That might be the best battle round team Delta Sarasaland has ever had since the MKRA's inception.  Normally you and Daisy get ganged up on by the other teams...not so here.

Not a bad night for team Sherwin Williams Hyrule either with me getting 10 and Zelda 4.

I mean, it's not an outright win but given how Daisy and I have basically been battle fodder for a long time, I'll take it.

And now to get ready for proper racing next week.

Yesterday, the MKRA said the California Grand Prix at WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca would be postponed to an undetermined date due in large part to the coronavirus.

Now, with reports of McLaren F1 not competing in the Australian Grand Prix this weekend after a member of the team contracted the virus, some reports are saying it will likely be cancelled, meaning the MKRA race at Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne might get the axe too.

Laguna Seca track officials meanwhile are planning to sue the MKRA in a Mushroom Kingdom courthouse over the race being rescheduled, claiming a breach of contract.

"The United States doesn't have many cases as places like Italy, China, Japan and others in regards to the coronavirus," track officials said in their initial briefing. "While we all want everyone to be taking the virus seriously, we had a contract signed with the organization and are asking the courts to make sure that it gets honored as agreed upon. Too many events are being cancelled or set to happen with no fans and we want to ensure that we can continue to have events run normally to dispel the fear and panic in America right now.'

The league has yet to comment on the suit.

Edit: Road Atlanta and Detroit GP officials both have distanced themselves from the lawsuit given they have races later in the calendar year and aren't affected at the moment.

The MKRA, after consulting with track officials, corporate partners, and teams, have modified their schedule for 2020 on account of the ongoing coronavirus in the human world.

There won’t be any race this weekend March 14

The Wumpa Island Grand Prix has been moved up and will now be held on March 21.  Many of the resources expected to be used at Albert Park Circuit this weekend will be utilized to get the nearby virtual world circuit ready quickly.

The Australia Grand Prix has been rescheduled for November 14th.  The Koopa Valley and Rainbow Road Grands Prix have been pushed back a week to accommodate this move.  The MKRA pushed this race way back in the calendar so that it could be contested outside of the Southern Hemisphere winter.

The Popstar Grand Prix has been moved up to April 11, and the California Grand Prix has been rescheduled for April 25, in accordance with track organizers’ wish to put their race on as soon as possible following the expected worst of the virus.  The MKRA hopes that this move will appease the folks at Laguna Seca, saying that after talking with teams, it just isn’t possible to race in California right now, with the state having 100+ cases of the virus at present
