Mario Kart Racing Association - 2020 Season

Daisy and I on the second row. Neat.

And those three are finished.

All right Daisy, time to team up and get more constructors points over Tesco Princess.

Great pit stops guys. Now to focus on the princesses and plumbers.

Man, it's not fun that here in the Metro Detroit region we have our first snowfall of 2019 on Halloween.

And Corona Islander just said adios on home soil. Shame. And wait, Birdo is officially male? Guess that debate has been out to bed for good now regarding the gender.

And he/she decided to say adios to racing with Yoshi too with that crash. Corona Islander needs a new driver now for the rest of the season and beyond.

Delta team radio:

Fuzzer: Guys have any of you watched Spanish telenovelas before?

Team engineer: Sometimes but not enough to see how one of them ends sadly.

Fuzzer: I think that wreck those two had was kinda like one of those type of endings.

Team engineer: Given what Yoshi said last week, good analogy.

Alright guys better get that pit stop flawless in a few laps.

And that wreck cost me some points but still time to salvage some of them.

10th place finish. I'll take it.

Looks like I read the wrong translation of the SMB2 instruction manual...oops.  Birdo's definitely a she.

Somewhere, Conker must be having himself a laugh.  I can see now the "who crashed their partner out better?" memes popping up all over Twitter and Instagram.

Makes you wonder why she and Yoshi were paired together in Double Dash does it?

The fallout at Team Corona Islander was swift this morning.  With the team and the company getting embarrassed on home soil last night, there are rumblings that the company might pull sponsorship of the team at the conclusion of the 2019 season.  Word is that Corona executives are furious about what transpired last night.

Not to anybody’s real surprise, it’s being reported that (much like a season ago) Baby Mario will step into Birdo’s vacated seat for the remainder of 2019.

Meanwhile, the MKRA has come out and announced the four circuits that will be utilized in the upcoming 2019-2020 promotion series.  They have selected circuits that did not host an MKRA Grand Prix in 2019.

Race 1 - Moleville Mountain Circuit, Moleville - December 12

Race 2 - Subcon Circuit, Subcon - December 19

Race 3 - Sunshine Airport Circuit - December 27

Race 4 - Sherbet Land Ice Circuit - Mushroom Kingdom - January 1

Corona, Birdo and Corona Islander might have just said "I'm done, goodbye" on home soil yesterday but ahead of the US Grand Prix this weekend, F1 fans here in America aren't saying that to ESPN, and by way of covering the races, Sky Sports.

It was announced today that ESPN and F1 have agreed to a three year extension of their current contract to 2022 that will see races on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC in English and adding Spanish coverage on ESPN Deportes starting next season, meaning F1 is saying "estoy terminado, adios" to Univision Deportes after this season.

Most importantly for F1 fans is that races will still be shown ad free in the US, which began in 2018 with the Bahrain Grand Prix following huge backlash as the commerical free coverage Sky Sports provides in the UK was interrupted by ads during the Australian Grand Prix two weeks prior.

With ratings for the coverage continuing to be promising for the US TV network this season and fans appreciating the ad free coverage (though opinions towards the announcers, lead announcer David Croft, seem to be mixed at best) and knowing this will continue going forward for three more years, Fuzzer was asked by NSN if he could remember what the initial reactions we're back when ESPN was announced to have taken over F1 coverage 2 years ago.

"Oh man, was the reaction seemingly negative before things got worked out. Since we didn't know that Sky Sports was providing the commentary until February 2018, there was a sense of worry that ESPN was going to find a way to ruin it with bad commentary and tons and tons of ads interrupting the race and even with Sky providing the coverage, their first race of the partnership in Australia wasn't pretty for those in America who saw it."

How bad was it anyway? Fuzzer was happy to explain.

"Well for starters most of the pre race coverage (branded is F1 On The Grid by Sky Sports) wasn't shown on ESPN2 due to satellite issues, tons of ads being shown during the race itself, some side by side with the action, others not showing the action, specifically for local breaks, all with no warning at all and no clue about what was missed, and to top it all off, no actual post race coverage to speak of, aside from the post race podium ceremony that is. It was so bad that ESPN had to apologize and even Mother's Polish, the presenting sponsor of the coverage, wasn't happy on social media as well to the point they purchased the rights to ensure the races would be ad free going forward. And with this new three year deal, things have been much better for American F1 fans."

The remaining MKRA events during 2019 will be taking place on Saturdays from here on out, starting with this week's US Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.  Will update page 1.

Also...due to a surprise landslide that caused a tsunami of magma at the Bowser's Castle Circuit, some of the track on the hairpin was melted away.  There are emergency repairs taking place now but the race has been postponed to November 30th as a result.  The MKRA has worked with the folks in Sao Paulo and at Formula 1 and the Brazilian Grand Prix will now be held on November 16th.  This event will be held at Interlagos now as a double-feature weekend alongside the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix the following day.

South United States Grand Prix @ Circuit of the Americas - Austin, Texas

Qualifying results:

1 - Phoenix Wright, Toad, Yoshi, Daisy

2 - Triforcemaster, Fuzzer, Miles Edgeworth, Mario

3 - Luigi, Sonic, Peach, Bowser

4 - Fox, Kirby, Pikachu, Luigi

5 - Kazooie, Banjo, Pit, Megaman

6 - Ryota Hayami, Captain Falcon, Jody Summer, Krystal

7 - Olimar, Amy Rose, Pichu, Koopa Troopa

8 - Zelda, Rosalina, Dedede, Palutena,

9 - Louie, Akari Hayami, Zero, Toadette

10 - Wolf, Dash, DK, Diddy, Baby Mario

Edit: somebody's up there twice but I can't seem to figure out who, blargh

DNF - Jody Summer, King Dedede, Rosalina, Fox, Pit, Megaman, Mario, Daisy

9:45pm - The racers are on the Circuit for the formation lap.  Circuit of the Americas hosts the 2nd MKRA event in the USA this year, and features a big hill climb on the first straightaway, a series of S-curves leading out toward the first hairpin at turn 11, followed by a big straightaway to turn 12, followed by a series of hairpins leading around the amphitheater and then back to the starting line.  This is going to be a test for all involved.  Qualifying didn't yield much of an obvious lightweight/heavyweight split, though its worth noting that the 4 American drivers all start on row 1 or 2.  This could be a big night for team Uber Lawyer, who are very much in the relegation battle.

Lap 1 - It's green light from Lakitu and it's time to bring the action.  The hill on the opening straightaway keeps the speed sensible and all clear the first corner.  All good through the S-curves and the hairpins...no crash on lap 1?  What?

Lap 5 - It's been pretty tame so far.  Phoenix Wright was on the pole but he's been passed by Toad, who leads from Wright, then Yoshi, Tm3, Daisy, and Fuzzer in the top 6.

Lap 7 - It was a poor qualifying for team Chevrolet, and now we might be seeing why.  Jody Summer blows her transmission and has to retire.  Falcon is struggling for speed as well.

Lap 9 - King Dedede is out of this race...he oversteers badly going through the S-curves and goes into the wall.

Lap 12 - Yoshi passes Wright, then passes Toad and takes over the lead.  Meanwhile, Miles Edgeworth pulls off an insane move as he gets by Fuzzer using the DRS on the straightaway and then takes an audacious line through turn 12.  Daisy sees it late and instead of blocking and risking a crash, she lets him through.  Risky move by Miles but it pays off as he's now into 5th behind Wright, Tm3 passing him into 3rd.

Lap 15 - Mario and Luigi are now right behind Fuzzer and Daisy, and Peach is right behind them in 10th place.  Behind her is Pikachu and Kirby, who seem to be working together well in 11th and 12th.  The racing has been remarkably civil thus far, outside of Dedede who lost it on his own there's been no trouble at all out there.

Lap 20 - First time into the pits, all teams change well, no real change in the top 10.  Further back, Louie has a major problem as the jack fails to disengage from the kart.  He's now running last.

Lap 22 - Further back in the field, Rosalina has a puncture in her left rear tire, and she is unable to make it back to the pit lane.  She's out.

Lap 25 - Yoshi and Toad are battling up front for the lead...so far Yoshi is holding off his mushroomy adversary.  Tm3 is still running third, but he's a ways back.  There's a fairly large gap to 4th also, with Wright and Edgeworth running there, Daisy/Fuzzer still 6th/7th, with Mario, Luigi, and Peach 8th/9th/10th.

Lap 28 - Further back in the field Fox McCloud has a power unit short out on him going by the ampitheatre.  He mockingly says something is wrong with his G-diffuser.  You can tell he doesn't like human world tracks.

Lap 31 - Midway through the race, you feel it needs a jolt of energy from somewhere.  Maybe it could come from an unlikely source.  Kazooie, running 14th behind Banjo, passes her teammate, and then makes a crazy pass on Kirby in turn 9, then makes an even more ridiculous move down the inside to squeeze past Pikachu, who much like Daisy earlier elects to steer clear rather than block.  The move brings the crowd to their feet.

Lap 34 - Finally...on lap 34 we have our first crash of the race.  Megaman battles with Pit for 15th, which means points...and he tries the same move on turn 19 as Kazooie did earlier but Pit never sees him coming and takes the inside line.  Megaman runs into Pit and takes the both of them out.  Pit only shakes his head and says nothing as he exits his kart.

Lap 38 - It seems like team Delta is ok with how this is playing out...none of the top teams stand to gain ground on them here except maybe team Sherwin-Williams, but it'd be a stretch to consider them a threat for the constructors title at this point.  Team Amazon is right on their heels but haven't been able to get through.  This pit stop coming up could be their best chance to do so.  Up front, Yoshi still leads from Toad, followed by Tm3.  Team Uber will be looking for an opening surely here, this is a big opportunity for them.

Lap 40 - 2nd time in the pit lane and we've got trouble.  Mario and Daisy end up nearly colliding exiting the paddock, they slow way down to avoid the collision but that leaves Kazooie with nowhere to go and she hits both of them.  All 3 are forced to reverse and go back to the paddock to repair the damage.  To add to the drama, Phoenix Wright has difficulty with the fuel nozzle not detaching from his kart.  He loses tons of time.  So now Fuzzer, Luigi, and Edgeworth are alone up at the front without their partners.  This is going to really spice things up now!

Lap 41 - One thing I forgot to mention was what a great change Tm3 got from his Sherwin Williams Hyrule pit crew, he exits the pit lane in 1st place, and is driving like a man possessed.

Lap 43 - Miles Edgeworth immediately goes for a pass on Toad and makes it look easy with the DRS on the far straightaway.  Toad might be in for a tougher endgame here now that everybody is racing for themselves.  He's going to need to be solid in the technical sections because as a lightweight he's going to lose time on the straightaways.

Lap 46 - Mario and Daisy have been sparring with one another since their dust up in the pit lane, and now with them trying to race back into the points, they come together in turn 12 coming off the straightaway.  This time they do crash, Daisy clipping Mario's front wing and causing him to spinout, while Daisy's front right tire is punctured.  Their race is over.  Safety car is out, and one guy that won't be happy about that is Tm3, who looked to be away for the win.  Now he's going to have to defend the coming restart.

Lap 48 - Sure enough, on the restart, Miles Edgeworth gets a great start and passes Tm3 at the apex of turn 1.  Tm3 immediately presses him back and regains the lead on turn 11, but Edgeworth battles back and uses the DRS to get by again.  This is thrilling stuff at the front.  Yoshi, Toad, Luigi, Fuzzer, Peach, Pikachu, Kirby, and Banjo round out the top 10.

Lap 51 - Luigi goes past Toad into 4th place and is now advancing on Yoshi, who is gaining a bit on Tm3.  This is all to play for still here and there could be late drama.

Lap 53 - Tm3 is racing as though he is not going to be denied!  He passes Edgeworth on the S-curve with an audacious slingshot maneuver that brings the crowd to their feet.  Fuzzer meanwhile passes Toad and is into the top 5.  He's going to be atop the driver standings tonight if it remains like this.

Lap 55 - You have to wonder if this is going to be a USA sweep in the USA for the 2nd time this year after USA drivers finished 1-2-3 in Detroit earlier this season.  Fuzzer would just need to get by Yoshi and Luigi to make it happen as Tm3 and Edgeworth have a nice lead on the rest of the field now.

Lap 57 - Banjo makes a series of DRS-enabled passes, first going by Kirby, then Pikachu, now he blasts by Peach as though her kart is running on cobblestones.  His charge is probably coming too late to finish on the podium but this is impressive.

Lap 58 - Miles Edgeworth reclaims the lead!  He once again uses the uphill to his advantage and gets the inside line at turn 1 to go past Tm3 into the lead.  You'd have to figure if Miles wins that would be safety assured for team Uber Lawyer.

Lap 60 - Huge drama on the final lap as Tm3 tries mightily to get past Edgeworth while Fuzzer tries a ridiculous double pass on Yoshi and Luigi in turn 11 but ends up locking up and going into the grass.  That costs him another place as Banjo comes from behind to take over 5th.  Tm3 tries everything, even trying an outside pass around the amphitheater but Edgeworth responds by forcing him wide, almost off the track.  Tm3 backs off and has to settle for silver as Miles Edgeworth rides to victory in Austin!  This is a massive win for team Uber Lawyer, who also sees Phoenix Wright finish in 11th place.  Yoshi finishes in 3rd place behind Tm3 and right there to congratulate him is Baby Mario, who finishes his 6th race in the MKRA tonight...all 6 coming as an interim driver.

Final results:

1.Miles Edgeworth - 25 pts

No issues after lap 1. Good start.

Top 6 right now. Don't want to do anything stupid.

Smart move Daisy. Our race would've been over if you blocked Miles.

Plenty of civility on an American race track. We Americans wonder why it's non existent elsewhere.

So far so good. Wait, who's Yoshi's teammate after what went down in Mexico City with Birdo last race?

Could it be the human food Fox isn't a huge fan of? Why wouldn't he like the tracks here when some of the tracks in the various Nintendo realms don't have anti gravity sections like how our tracks obviously don't have them?

Sometimes the points are more important than the personal glory. Consistency wins championships.

Well I just gained more points over Daisy as long as nothing stupid happens to me.

I can see myself in the lead for the championship now getting closer. Don't screw it up Fuzzer.

Just got two drivers to get by and the Stars and Stripes will sweep the podium on home soil once again.

Two Americans going at it for the win on US soil. Really nice.

Still 10 points more than Daisy got tonight

Analysis -

Man, this is going to be good.  It's an intense five-way confrontation for the driver's championship.  Only 22 points separate first place Fuzzer from 5th place Mario, with Daisy, Peach, and Luigi all sandwiched inbetween.  This is going to be an incredible race to the finish at Rainbow Road.  Perhaps the most interesting remaining event is the battle arena in Termina in 2 weeks.  How will the individual drivers approach that, knowing that the other racers will all want to play spoiler?  And of course Rainbow Road will be worth double points, so its virtually assured that this race won't be decided until the final night December 7th.  Of the five racers, Peach is the only one whose team isn't in it for the constructor's title, which means she won't be under any team orders to race close to Rosalina.

The constructor's race is down to two.  Team Delta and Team Amazon are 30 pts apart with 4 races left.  This is interesting because these two teams also have both drivers in the mix for the driver's championship as well.  You'd think that Daisy/Fuzzer or Mario/Luigi will continue racing as a team until the constructor's race is decided but the team orders could change depending on the situation.  Further back, team Sherwin has a slight edge on three other teams, team Chevy, team Tesco, and Team CVS, for the third spot on the constructor's podium.  That's going to be a real dogfight you would think.  It should be team battle all the way here except maybe for team Tesco as Peach is very much in the race for the driver's title.  If there's one team that could result to some dirty tactics it could be them, it just depends on whether Rosalina is willing to get her hands dirty or not.

The relegation race is also very intense.  While technically only the top 6 teams are mathematically safe at this point, the line of moderate danger seems to be between 12th and 13th, and the line of fiery danger is between 15th and 16th.  Team Uber was in the relegation fight but their huge performance at the US Grand Prix has significantly improved their position.  They're probably safe now barring a disaster finish.  Teams BMW, Dole, and American are in some danger, but are probably one big performance away from safety.  At the bottom, team Roscosmos is in very bad shape.  Louie and Olimar will need a big finish if they are to leapfrog three teams in the final four events.  Decent money says they'll probably be relegated.  But who else will join them in dropping out?  There's only 10 pts separating 16th from 19th.  Pikachu and Pichu have their sponsor's home race up next, so they'll be hoping for a big performance there.  Both the battle arena and the final race at Rainbow Road will be huge in determining who stays up and who is out.

Heading into tonight’s final race in the human world at Interlagos...Tm3 admits he might be at a slight disadvantage.  Tm3 just arrived in São Paulo this morning following his competing in his 11th career marathon this past Saturday in Richmond, Virginia.  Speaking from the terminal at Washington-Dulles International Airport prior to boarding the flight to Brazil, He said that the race was a success as he finished for the 11th time in 11 tries, maintaining his 100% record in that department, but that the blisters on his feet he sustained are definitely problematic.  His legs are also understandably very sore indeed, which could be an issue when getting into the kart on Tuesday night.

What is lucky for Tm3 is that this race was not run on the weekend, with F1 and the MKRA deciding to give each other a 2 days gap between races...the F1 Brazil Grand Prix was run as scheduled Sunday with Max Verstappen taking the checkered flag. Verstappen said afterward that he was looking forward to seeing the MKRA race tonight prior to flying to the UAE for the season’s final F1 fixture and reiterated that he would love to see the MKRA come to Zandvoort Circuit in the Netherlands next year.  Historically the Netherlands hasn’t been Nintendo’s biggest European market but it’s definitely sizeable enough to merit holding an event there.

Toad picks up his long-awaited first win of 2019, taking the lead on lap 34 at Interlagos and never surrendering the lead from then onward.  It's a big win for Team Friday's Fun Guys who had gone most of the season without one.  Koopa Troopa had one of his best days of the season here, finishing second for his third podium finish of the season.  Yoshi keeps up his recent hot streak, finishing in 3rd place to record his fourth podium finish of 2019 and leapfrog into 6th place overall.  The 3 podium finishers all danced the samba after receiving their trophies.  In the race for the drivers' and constructors' championships, not a lot was decided tonight as Peach, Daisy, Mario, and Luigi all finished in a pack from 8th to 11th, continuing a trend of consistently good but not championship level driving by the top contenders.  Fuzzer was the only one of the group to not score tonight as he was hit with a transmission issue on lap 29 and was forced to retire.  Triforcemaster was also hit with bad luck as his engine blew on lap 14, forcing his retirement.  Meanwhile in the relegation race, Pichu's 4th place finish and Sonic's 5th place really help their respective teams, while Diddy did his team a solid by finishing 7th.  Team Honda Hayami and team Stihl Venom both went empty were probably the most hurt by the outcome tonight.

Next event is the season's final battle arena at Termina's Great Bay Coast Saturday night.

MKRA Battle Royal - Four Giants Battle Arena, Great Bay Coast, Termina

For the first time ever, the MKRA has come to Termina, and it’s here in the parallel world where a massive battle royal will take place.  With the drivers championship race an intense 5 way Battle, team Amazon and team Delta fighting for the constructor’s title, and with the teams at the bottom desperately trying to avoid relegation, this is sure to be an intense night filled with fierce fighting and lots of internal politicking and backstabbing as alliances could be formed or fractured as drivers do anything they can to win.

The four giants battle arena covers the area of the Great Bay SSBB Arena all the way onto the beach.  The racers will be battling in hovercraft karts similar to those of Darkwater Beach earlier this season, and these vehicles are fully amphibious, allowing for easy driving on the water or land.  Adding to the danger of all the items being used to pop the other racers’ balloons is that the deku scrubs will be using deku flowers to fly over the beach and drop deku nuts from the sky and the gerudo pirates will be shooting off their cannons into the ocean, so there will be danger everywhere tonight.

the battles in round 1 will be 5-way, where the last 2 standing will advance to the semifinals.  The battles were drawn by random number generator, with the added caveat that racers on the same team cannot be drawn together.

Battle 1:

Koopa Troopa

Amy Rose

Luigi - Q

Louie

Daisy - Q

Louie and Amy aligned with each other in an effort to go through, but Luigi and Daisy wisely decided to team up together as well.  Koopa Troopa kind of watched the proceedings for a while but down to 3, he was unable to eliminate Luigi or Daisy before he was knocked out himself.  Great start for team Delta and Amazon.

Battle 2:

Dedede

Donkey Kong - Q

Pikachu

Rosalina - Q

Olimar

Donkey Kong was a one-gorilla wrecking crew in this match, eliminating Olimar, Pikachu, and Dedede as Rosalina mostly stayed clear of danger to also advance.

Battle 3:

Zero

Krystal - Q

Peach

Mario

Ryota Hayami - Q

Mario and Peach tried to work together in this third battle but unfortunately for them they were up against a much tougher field more skilled in battles and water driving.  It ended up being Ryota and Krystal advancing as Zero was unable to eliminate either of them once Mario and Peach were eliminated.

Battle 4:

Toadette

Sonic

Banjo - Q

Fuzzer

Palutena - Q

With no real obvious allies to assist him unlike the other top drivers in the championship race, Fuzzer was forced out early.  Banjo, so skilled in driving hovercraft, was the impact player in this battle while Palutena was able to outlast Sonic for the 2nd transfer spot.

Battle 5:

Megaman - Q

Akari Hayami - Q

Pit

Bowser

Toad

The other racers ganged up on Bowser at the start of this battle, knocking him out...Toad went next as he struggled to drive the hovercraft.  Akari never took a hit in the battle...she advances along with Megaman who managed to eliminate Pit for the 2nd spot.

Battle 6:

Wolf - Q

Kirby

Jody Summer - Q

Baby Mario

Diddy Kong

Baby Mario, Kirby, and Diddy Kong each had real difficulty driving the hovercraft.  This made this a quick and easy battle for Wolf and Jody, who advance.

Battle 7:

Yoshi

Zelda

Dash Bowman - Q

Kazooie - Q

Miles Edgeworth

This is turning into a potentially huge night for team Stihl Venom as Dash Bowman advances out of this battle, and does so alongside Kazooie, who mostly hid during this battle and opportunistically eliminated Yoshi and Zelda to advance

Battle 8:

Fox

Captain Falcon

Triforcemaster - Q

Phoenix Wright

Pichu - Q

Fox and Falcon were at each other's throats from the get go, and Fox was eliminated with Falcon getting knocked out soon after.  Pichu was, like Kazooie, mostly ignored early on and managed to get the opportunistic final hit on Wright to advance, with Tm3 also doing well to advance.

Semifinal Battles:

Battle 1:

Luigi - 3rd (8 pts)

Donkey Kong - 1st - Q

Krystal - 4th (5 pts)

Banjo - 2nd (10 pts)

Battle 2:

Daisy - 2nd (10 pts)

Rosalina - 4th (5 pts)

Ryota Hayami - 1st - Q

Palutena - 3rd (8 pts)

Battle 3:

Megaman - 1st - Q

Wolf - 2nd (10 pts)

Kazooie - 3rd (8 pts)

Triforcemaster - 4th (5 pts)

Battle 4:

Akari Hayami - 4th (5 pts)

Jody Summer - 1st - Q

Dash Bowman - 3rd (8 pts)

Pichu - 2nd (10 pts)

Final:

Donkey Kong - 3rd (18 pts)

Ryota Hayami - 1st (25 pts)

Megaman - 4th (15 pts)

Jody Summer - 2nd (20 pts)

The final was an epic confrontation, and in the end, it was a superb performance by Ryota Hayami that might be the defining moment of his MKRA career, and in the waters of Great Bay, it just might be the night that keeps him and his sister in the MKRA for another year.  The three ladies all tried to gang up on him in the semifinal only to be stymied.  This battle was more even in the run of play, and Megaman was first eliminated.  DK was actually ahead 2 balloons to one but was shot by a gerudo cannon, which then led to his elimination from Ryota.  Jody and Ryota went at it for several minutes before Jody was finally eliminated.

We're down to the final 2 races in the 2019 MKRA Season.  After a whole season of twists, turns, grands prix, and battle arenas across Mushroom World, the Nintendo Universe, and the human world, we've just about reached the end of the road.  And yet, with so little competition left, there is so little that we truly know.  Let's review the key questions:

1.Who's going to win the constructor's championship?

At this point, its a heads-up battle between team Amazon Plumber and team Delta Sarasaland.  Team Delta leads by 28 points, which is a mildly comfortable margin.  Realistically to win the title, team Amazon will probably have to make up a little bit of ground at Bowser's Castle, or if they don't, will probably need a 1-2 finish at Rainbow Road to secure the title.  Failing both of those scenarios, they would need to hope for high finishes in both races and would need an unforced error or two (or some really bad luck) from team Delta.  If Mario and Luigi are within 24 pts of the lead going into Rainbow Road, then a 1-2 finish would win the title regardless of what Fuzzer and Daisy do at Rainbow Road.  Fuzzer and Daisy meanwhile could put the race virtually to bed if they race well and Mario and Luigi have a bad night at Bowser's Castle.

2.Who's going to win the driver's championship?

Beats me.  Daisy is in the lead to defend her title, but only leads Fuzzer by 8, Peach by 11, and Luigi by 12.  Mario is also in the mix a little further back, 24 points in arrears.  Oddly enough, as it stands, the podium is exactly as it was a year ago, but I wouldn't bet money on it staying that way.  Oddly enough, the two hottest driver in the MKRA right now seems to be Yoshi, and after being dead and buried for most of the season, he's now just 45 points out.  It would still virtually require a miracle for Yoshi to make that up in the final two races, he would need to win at both Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road and get a whole lot of help as well.  Maybe if Birdo hadn't intentionally crashed Yoshi out in Mexico he'd be right up with Mario and really have a good chance.  But at any rate, with Fuzzer, Mario, Luigi, and Daisy all involved in the constructor's race as well, you would expect the teams to race together for at least most of the way at Bowser's Castle tomorrow night.  But depending on what transpires, the situation could change to every man/woman for themselves in the blink of an eye.  No doubt, Yoshi and Peach will be going all out completely free of team orders.  The issue for Peach is that one of the remaining races is at Bowser's Castle, which historically has been a house of horrors for her.  Will she be mentally up to the challenge tomorrow?  Right now the oddsmakers are giving Daisy the slight edge to defend her title, with Luigi 2nd favorite and Fuzzer 3rd.

3.Who's going to win the golden kart?

The golden kart is a new prize this year going to the racer who has the most victories (and in case of tie, the most runner-up finishes).  Right now Fuzzer and Peach have the most victories this season with 3, Daisy, Bowser, Captain Falcon, Megaman, and Donkey Kong all have 2.  If any of the 5 racers with 2 wins win on Saturday night, they'll move level with Fuzzer and Peach, setting up a 3-way battle for the golden kart at Rainbow Road.  Meanwhile a Peach or Fuzzer win would eliminate the other 5 and it would be just a 2-racer contest.

4.Who's going to be relegated?

Man...this question is still very much unresolved.  Almost all the teams at the bottom have performed well over the last 2 races except for team Roscosmos Cosmonaut.  Olimar and Louie are surely gone at this point.  But after that, it's still all to race for.  Currently it would be Sonic and Amy Rose and Wolf and Dash Bowman dropping out of the MKRA, with Pichu and Pikachu and the Hayami siblings escaping the drop just barely.  These teams will all be looking for one more big performance to save their spot in the MKRA.  It should be noted that Megaman and Zero, Wright and Edgeworth, and Pit and Palutena are not especially safe at this point as they are all within 25 points of the drop, but they would probably need to go empty and have all the teams below them pick up a good number of points at Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road to suffer relegation.

It would not surprise me in the least if the teams in 18th and 19th going into Rainbow Road, if not in a scoring position after 40 laps, both try to stay out at the 2nd fuel stop and gamble on a safety car.  There could even be situations where one driver intentionally crashes to vault their partner into the lead with less than 20 laps to go.  If I were the MKRA, I would probably do something to address this before we get to Rainbow Road, but that's just me.

The stage is set for a thrilling final week, and it commences on the lava fields Saturday night.

Delta Sarasaland officials told reporters their basic strategy with Bowser's Castle tomorrow night, being super careful to not give too much away that could be used by Amazon Plumber:

"We need to have a 50/50 balance where Fuzzer and Daisy are not only focusing on the overall drivers battle but also focus on locking down the constructors title for us heading into Rainbow Road. Of course even the best plans can easily go sideways at the start of the race so things can be fluid and not work out well at all. It's a tough balance for us to deal with but we like our chances tomorrow."
