Elemental Hero
Unbelievable! Those were my first games. I have every pixel of Holodrum and Labrynna memorized and every bit of them still holds up just as well 23 years later. Doc Brown and alienboyva 2 Quote Link to comment
alienboyva
Nice! I haven't played the Oracle games... Well, I did play one of them at a demo station at Walmart back in the day, but that was only for a few minutes. Hope we don't have to wait too long for Pokémon TCG. Quote Link to comment

Rented Seasons from Blockbuster and got Ages for my birthday from my cousin. First Zelda game that I ever beat. alienboyva 1 Quote Link to comment
Elemental Hero
I formally retract my glowing praise for Oracle of Ages. The last couple of dungeons are some of the worst in the series--aimless, repetitive messes which had me backtracking for hours until I could find which far corner of the dungeon has changed after hitting the latest switch. Or I hit the wrong switch next and now I have to redo everything. I also had issues with hit detection during the last boss fight, which had me angrily pulling up a guide even though I was supposedly doing it right the first time. I've always been bitter about Seasons getting the Roc's Cape, while Ages gets Switch Hook and Power Bracelet upgrades relevant only as roadblocks for their dungeons. Quote Link to comment

I got to that __ dancing game...and said f* it. I was digging it up until then though. Quote Link to comment
Elemental Hero
The long pause before the player can input is what ruined that minigame for me. I did not feel guilty about using NSO's rewind feature to get through that. Same with the baseball minigame. I just don't have the patience, either because I'm an adult now with a sense of time's fleeting nature, or because I don't value digital copies of games as much. Quote Link to comment

Imma hazard a guess that you are more the former than the latter. I think since knew of digital games, anyone at any age would have love/hate relation of its value and of course like anything else in life time changes perspective to get a solid picture what holds value so morality is always gonna come up with patience and time. So....yeah..... Quote Link to comment
Ridley Prime
Finished the Pokemon Stadium 2 grind, R2 mode included. Turns out all you mostly need are the rentals that know counter or mirror coat. Hitmonchan (counter), Corsola (mirror coat), Voltorb (mirror coat), and the obligatory Wobbuffet, to name a few. Ones that know self destruct and explosion can be good too, to get some of the more annoying opponents out of the way quick. Rental Weezing, Graveler, Voltorb, and such; not to mention Haunter with destiny bond. Also having a backup save before a match starts. The RNG that determines whether certain moves like Thunder will hit or miss as well as which 3 out of 6 Pokemon the opponent chooses is decided as soon as the match starts, and reloading to an earlier point in the match changes nothing. There might be some other things I'm not recalling at the moment, but that's mostly the gist of it. The randomizing of Challenge Cup was still a breath of fresh air since you only have rentals to work with otherwise in battling, and playing the mini-games again was certainly a trip down memory lane. Much as I still like the ones in the first Stadium, I think they improved upon them in Stadium 2. That and I have more childhood memories of playing them with a friend or two. Quote Link to comment
TKrazyO
I knew I was forgetting a game when I was talking to the guys last week about games they announced that hadn't been released. We were talking about Mario Party 3 but now... Excitebike 64 is coming out on the 30th! purple_beard 1 Quote Link to comment

But the game is a big departure from the bike racing of the NES predecessor. Quote Link to comment

Yea, I hated how much of a pain that it was to get the Master Sword in Ages tbh. Quote Link to comment

I cannot remember the number of N64 titles I wanted to see on the service before upgrading, but I think it might have been 20. The service will hit that number very soon, and I'm looking forward to playing a few of these games again and most for the first time. The Mario Party and Pokemon Stadium games interest me the most in the recently announced wave to come through 2023. I remember when I was younger really wanting Pokemon Stadium 2, but my family wouldn't get the game for me, so soon I'll be able to play that even if it's not in an ideal way. … So did you end up playing Pokemon Stadium 2? Since I was pretty much the only one here who talked about their experiences with both Stadium games again after they came out (among some other titles which I feel are hidden gems on N64 NSO such as WinBack), figured I’d may as well ask. The Stadium games + Goldeneye alone made it worth upgrading my NSO plan, though now I expect mostly diminishing returns from the 64 library far as additional releases (Diddy Kong Racing or at least Donkey Kong 64 would be nice though), and now just waiting for more things to eventually be added to GB/GBA online. I haven't yet. My little brother released his game Another Generic Space Shooter on Steam back on July 21st and since then that, Metroid Prime Hunters and Animal Crossing: Wild World have been my main game rotation. I've got to use the service more overall...I just checked my play stats on the N64 app and it looks like I've only done a cup in Mario Kart 64. Zero Mission is the one I'm anticipating the most. When I'll play once it's added, I don't know. I still have yet to do a run of Metroid Fusion on the service. I did play some of Metroid II though, but haven't picked it back up since getting to the first nest that has the Zeta Metroids. Edited August 31 by Ithrak Utopia Ridley Prime 1 Quote Link to comment
alienboyva
Interesting how all of these except one are JPN only games. Running out of localized NES/SNES games that can be licensed for the service, Nintendo? Huh! I was unaware that Kirby's Star Stacker had a JPN only release on the SFC. I know it had a GB release in JPN/US/EUR. Also, it's cool to see Joy Mech Fight. Edited September 6 by alienboyva purple_beard 1 Quote Link to comment
Shadow118
Unsure if the proper place, but looks like Princess Peach Showtime and Mario vs. DK were added and can be used with vouchers Nice. Only a matter of time until TTYD pops up as a voucher option.. definitely would use a voucher on that DLurkster 1 Quote Link to comment
DLurkster
I was hoping some of the new stuff shown at yesterday's Direct can be used with vouchers. As it stands now, I would want the Peach game digitally but the Another Code and when TTYD have a release date, I want to those physical. That is if and when I buy another voucher late at the end of this year of at the start of next year. I want to use a voucher to get SMBW and Super Mario RPG. So we'll see how that goes....
