Hackers flooding Super Mario Odyssey with pornographic profile pics

Recommended Posts

Hackers have found a way to create costume profile pics and are now using that abilty to spread pornographic images in Super Mario Odyssey via the Balloon World mode. Parents playing the game have noticed this and aren't very happy.

This is taking things way too far. I know Nintendo has been cracking down on hackers lately, but they need to go out in full force. Hacking wound't have taken off so fast if Nvidia had locked down their chip. I guess will be seeing the rumored revised chip hitting newly manufactured Switch units sooner than we think.

Hackers always ruin every thing! "It's just for homebrew!" they say... MY ASS!!! I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo removes this feature because of this.

As someone who created texture hacks for Brawl and enjoys the freedom included with homebrew: please don't lump us in with them.

I'd be very happy if Nintendo could stop all hacks from working online. Those of us who just want to back up saves and do more innocent things have no desire to use this stuff online. Those people are ruining it for everyone.

I totally get where your coming from, but when a system gets hacked for homebrew, it always leads to the bad stuff. It's not a matter of if, but when.

Seriously though, this has really started to get out of hand recently... Unreleased stage(s) being forced in Splatoon 2 and hackers being able to rip Switch game files, and now this. Apparently, Nintendo has a system of checks in place to know if your physical/digital games are legit and if not can trace back to you. So, I'm not too worried about this. I remember when PKMN Sun & Moon came out, someone got the game early and started distributing it and Nintendo was able to trace back to them.

Nintendo is way too slow with the online scene. Everyone else seems to have functional online with some sort of anti-cheat and Nintendo can't even seem to get chat or lobbies right. So far the only justifications they seem to have for their online being a paid service is renting out ancient NES games and possibly paywalling the only way to do data backups. They should have figured this all out before they started asking people to pay for the service- the hacking should come as no surprise to them as we've been doing this for decades.

"people shouldn't be allowed to use hardware that they own how they want because some people use it to troll online"

A better technical breakdown of what's going on. It doesn't just affect SMO, but -any- game that shows you a player's profile pic.

(I would've liked to have custom profile pics on the Switch, or at least outside of posing our Miis. But that means Nintendo has to put more effort in moderation and all that fun stuff.)

Nintendo should have known this shit was going to happen.  It doesn't help that their online system isn't rolled out and at this point I am wondering if it will even make it out by the end of the year.  They really need to get their shit together and start cracking down on this kind of shit but it is probably going to be difficult without a solid infrastructure of an online system to do effectively.  They only have themselves to blame for this kind of fuckery.

This. I wasn't fazed by the NES games because I have the NES classic and really don't have a desire to replay games I already have. You're right they don't have a clue when it comes to chat and lobbies and we have to resort to a mobile device to make something like that happen.

This honestly should have never been an issue in the first place.

Why the hell is a very finite set of images, background colors, Miis and poses, even loading images from the sever to begin with?

I hope they use this as a learning experince and patch it to work as it should've to begin with. Jesus...
