Mario Kart Racing Association - 2018 Season

Recommended Posts

Following his 3rd place finish at Daisy Circuit Tm3 sat down with the media.

Reporter: Tm3 how do you feel about your performance tonight?

Tm3: I feel great honestly.  Getting on the podium isn’t easy, and to get it done given some of the circumstances we were dealing with tonight, I really feel good about it.  Obviously Daisy and Fuzzer were unbreakable on this course, you could see that from the opening green flag, so to get third is about the best we could hope for.  The team did a heck of a job, especially in the pit changes.  We just keep getting better in that regard each week.

Reporter: When you saw Zelda’s horrific crash, what was going through your mind?

Tm3: She was about 7 or 8 places ahead when it happened.  I was just coming out of the corner leading into the tunnel and I saw her kart just come back to the ground as I entered the tunnel.  I knew she had crashed but didn’t know how severe until I saw the damage.  I did my best to console her over the radio.

Reporter: did you consider abandoning the race after that?

Tm3:  I actually did for a moment, but Zelda urged me to continue.  Really we all had to refocus quickly after that and I think it galvanized me and the team to some degree.  We wanted to pick Zelda up and have a good team showing despite her crashing and we ultimately did that.

Reporter: Your team didn’t have the greatest of starts but was sitting 5th in the constructors standings coming into this event.  Do you think you can get onto the podium by year’s end?

Tm3: I think we can and that’s the big goal at this point.  Team Amazon, Friday’s, CVS, Chevrolet, Tesco, Ford, Corona, they all have a good shot at it as well, so we have to continue to put up big performances to do it but I think it’s within our reach.  Maybe what happens with team Amazon and team Chevrolet here in the coming days will give us an unexpected boost.

Reporter: Are you shocked by what happened between those teams tonight?

Tm3: Oh definitely.  I get that those are two veteran teams that are very competitive, but that was just unprofessional.  I can’t believe Falcon has crashed twice in pit lane on back to back weeks, first with Wright and now Luigi.  And then for Mario to flick off Summer and put her into the wall...that’s just bizarre behavior for the MKRA’s namesake to exhibit on track.  He lost his mind out there.  Team Ford and team BMW lost points earlier when they had issues and team Ford had to switch out one of their drivers.  While I don’t expect that here, I think team Amazon and team Chevrolet need to act more professionally on the track.

Reporter: With the next race at Big Blue, do you think the MKRA will tread cautiously or will they drop the hammer?

Tm3: I know that in comparable situations the NBL would give pretty stiff punishment for behavior like what we saw last night.  Maybe the next race being in F-Zero territory alters the calculus a bit but I would hope race control is firm in their action.

Reporter: Thanks Tm3

The MKRA is in negotiations now with the 4 prospective US based tracks to host races in 2019 and 2020 season.  They are doing this in order to avoid litigation by the organizers at Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta, and Detroit Belle Isle Circuit.

The MKRA doesn’t want to have 4 races in the US in 2019, and would rather have 2 events per season with the tracks rotating.

The MKRA didn’t rule out the possibility of doing 10 events in the human world though, which might mean they are looking at other nations still

Link to comment

The three tracks said in a statement they are happy with the progress being made with the MKRA in negotiations and would be happy if its two races each in 2019 and 2020.

”From the beginning we wanted to have negotiations with the MKRA that are productive to avoid lawsuits,” the statement said. “Hopefully these talks produce a workable solution for all parties involved.”

In late breaking developments tonight, Circuit of the Americas is confirming that their event has been shifted from a Battle Arena to a traditional Grand Prix.  The MKRA later confirmed the same, saying that all battle arenas in 2019 and 2020 will take place in the virtual world.

Right now insiders seem to think that Detroit and Austin will be the 2 US hosts in 2019, with Atlanta and Laguna Seca waiting until 2020.

The league is debating whether to leave the human world races at 8 or expand to 10.  Interest groups from inside the virtual world are lobbying to keep the number capped at 8 to avoid longstanding Mario Kart venues from losing races.

Circuit of the Americas organizers said they were confused why their event was a battle event first "considering there is a hill after the start finish line before turn 1 which would make doing a proper battle arena difficult to pull off," and had tried to tell that discrepancy to MKRA officials also requesting their round be a proper race and apparently those requests were granted. Detroit officials are seemingly happy right now "with the progress towards being on the schedule for 2019" before adding that "our thoughts and prayers are with Aretha Franklin and her family right now as they are dealing with her illness at this time," combing both joy and possible sadness into one statement.

Productive meetings have continued with reports stating that Detroit and Atlanta will be the two US races for 2019 with COTA and Laguna Seca taking over for 2020.

While the reports aren’t confirmed yet, the fact that the negotiations took place rather than legal action is a nice change and is welcomed by all parties.

At a meeting in a Detroit hotel, the four track heads plus an MORA negotiator took part in a press conference before beginning closed door discussions and took a few minutes to pause to remember Aretha Franklin, who died yesterday in her home in Detroit from pancreatic cancer.

”It is a sad time right now, not just here in Detroit but throughout the world,” the head organizer of the Detroit GP Committee said to reporters. “Aretha Franklin may not have been born here but the fact that she stayed here for the rest of her life is something we can appreciate. The Queen of Soul is in a better place now and we will continue to enjoy her iconic music for generations to come.”

Afterwards, all five members took part in a breif moment of silence before resuming negotiations.

Officials with Road Atlanta had a big question needing to be answered towards those in the virtual world:

"You all keep talking about longstanding tracks in your world. But with so many tracks, what is your shortlist? Which tracks are so important that should have their status on the schedule secure? We are more than happy to talk with you to get this worked out. You send us the list and we'll go from there."

Link to comment

In trying to answer Road Atlanta’s inquiries, the MKRA consulted track supervisors, market reasearch data, and attendance figures from the past seasons as well as during this first season as a full sports RP. 2 groups of tracks, one in Mushroom World, the other outside of it, are more or less seen as “locks” going into 2019.

Mushroom World -

Mario Kart Stadium, Mushroom Kingdom

Mushroom City, Mushroom Kingdom

Royal Raceway, Mushroom Kingdom

Toad’s Turnpike, Mushroom Kingdom

Bowser’s Castle, Valley of Bowser

Daisy Circuit, Sarasaland

Yoshi Circuit, Yoshi’s Island

Rainbow Road, Mario Galaxy

Rest of Virtual World -

DK Summit Circuit, DK Isles

Roulette Road, Casino Night Zone

Air Ride Circuit, Popstar

Mute City Circuit, Mute City

Hyrule Circuit, Hyrule

Corneria City Circuit, Corneria

Saffron City Circuit, Kanto

Darkwater Beach Battle Arena, Timber Island

The other events on this year’s Circuit are seen as vulnerable.  If one takes the 8 human world events plus these 16, that leaves 24 events on the schedule, leaving 6 spots open...3 of which are battle arenas if the 2019 schedule is to follow the same format.

Road Atlanta officials called the list provided by the MKRA as "more than sufficient" adding that the list covers many of the tracks that are important and that "now we can hopefully continue negotiations that are productive going forward."

Qualifying results for Big Blue Grand Prix @ Big Blue Circuit

Row 1 - Kirby, Wolf, Captain Falcon, Jody Summer

Row 2 - King Dedede, Metaknight, Fox, Krystal

Row 3 - Phoenix Wright, Waddle Dee, Sonic, Amy Rose

Row 4 - Gary Oak, Miles Edgeworth, Dash Bowman, Ash Ketchum

Row 5 - Banjo, Palutena, Pit, Olimar

Row 6 - Louie, Wario, Waluigi, Bowser

Row 7 - Donkey Kong, Fuzzer, Triforcemaster, Timber

Row 8 - Peach, Daisy, Mario, Toadette

Row 9 - Koopa Troopa, Diddy Kong, Zelda, Toad

Row 10 - Rosalina, Luigi, Yoshi, Birdo

10:20pm - The drivers are out for the formation lap.  The F-Zero world hosts the MKRA for the 2nd time tonight, this time at Big Blue Circuit.  This is a circuit with a lot going on, with many zippers on the track as well as areas that can slow drivers down.  As with all F-Zero tracks, the rails at the edge of the track suck away energy and will slow you down rather severely, and the track is entirely antigravity (although it does have several jumps as well).  The antigravity was a big advantage to the space-based teams as well as others from the future, while the teams from Mushroom World, Hyrule, and other places struggled badly. With it being a point to point track instead of a traditional circuit, SSBB Subspace-type wormholes will be used at the end of the track to warp the drivers back to the top to start the next lap.

DNF - Bowser, Banjo, Donkey Kong, Toad, Toadette, Birdo, Zelda, Metaknight, Yoshi, Dash, Amy Rose, Daisy, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Rosalina, Wario

Lap 1 - Lakitu is on the track, the light turns green and its time to bring the action!  Turn 1 is good but turn 2 is not as Bowser and Banjo wipe out, and DK goes flying off of them and out of the track and into the ocean.  All 3 of them are done and the safety car is out.

Lap 3 - Back to green flag racing and its King Dedede surging to the front!  He's surrounded by CVS Fox and Chevrolet Top Driver.  The home team will want a strong performance tonight as they will be taking an early vacation, they are banned from next week's battle arena, which is the last event before the NWS/VGWBC break

Lap 6 - Wolf O'Donnell makes a strong move past 3 guys on one turn and is now into 2nd.  The double-decked turns are leading to some pretty intense overtaking maneuvers, and I feel like they could definitely lead to crashes as well if the drivers don't have good vision.

Lap 10 - Ha, what'd I say...Toadette and Toad end up crashing into each other after Toad goes high and Toadette goes low into turn 11 and they come together on the straightaway.  Looks like Friday's Fun Guys had a serious case of the Mondays.

Lap 14 - It seems as though the heavier drivers have an advantage on this track speed-wise due to the lack of friction in antigravity...if they can avoid crashing.  3 of the heavyweights are already gone.  King Dedede is starting to gap the field a bit and is on cruise control, but team Chevrolet, CVS, and Stihl are doing their best to make sure it doesn't turn into a rout.

Lap 19 - One team that isn't having a good night at all so far is Amazon Plumber, who are also banned from the upcoming battle arena.  How much you want to bet either they or team Tesco Princess try the ole not going to the pit strategy tonight?

Lap 20 - First time into the pits and Delta Sarasaland shows the field that yep, they're here too.  Great change for them gets Daisy and Fuzzer into the top 10.  Roscosmos Cosmonaut has a great change also and Louie and Olimar move up the ladder as well, mostly at the expense of Chevrolet Top Driver.  I don't what's wrong with their pit crew but they are having all sorts of issues at the moment.

Lap 22 - Another double-decker straightaway crash as Birdo collides with Zelda.  Rough break for Zelda as she crashes and heads to the shower early for the 2nd week in a row while Birdo's largely miserable season continues.

Lap 25 - Metaknight's power unit shorts out.  He headbutts the steering wheel in frustration as his night is over.

Lap 30 - Two modern teams near the front are getting into it now...BMW Big Shot and Uber Lawyer trade blows as both battle for positioning.  One of the exchanges results in Miles Edgeworth getting a tire puncture and he has to pit to repair the damage.

Lap 34 - It's taken a while but Jody Summer and Captain Falcon are back in the top 10 after the poor pit change.  They are actually dueling with Delta Sarasaland for positioning at the moment.  Guaranteed, this is not the situation they wanted to be in, stuck in combat with the points leaders with 3 other teams ahead of them on the grid.

Lap 37 - Yoshi hits the rail one too many times and his power unit fails.  That's a wrap for Corona Islander...they might be by the ocean, but they did not find their beach.

Lap 40 - Well here you go...2nd pit stop and Amazon Plumber and Tesco Princess both stay on the track and shoot into the lead.  Among the teams in the pit CVS Fox and American Skyworld have the best changes this time, although Kirby has a phenomenal change and makes it out right behind Dedede.  This could be a battle.

Lap 44 - This time the gambit fails, as one by one the Amazon and Tesco drivers all run out of gas.  Snake eyes.

Lap 46 - If only the fuel tanks went further than 24 laps...we hadn't had a crash near the front all night but in turn 13, Dash Bowman collides with Amy Rose, sending both of them into the rail, and also catching out Daisy, who vaults over the injured karts and ends up doing a frightening flip out of the track and into the ocean.  The flip was reminiscent of Zelda's last week, but at least Daisy had a softer medium to land in.  All 3 of them are headed to the garage.

Lap 50 - It's down to the top contenders now seemingly, with Dedede, Kirby, Fox, Falcon, Krystal, Louie, Olimar, and Summer holding down the top 8 at the moment.

Lap 53 - Kirby and Dedede are really getting after it at the front, and Falcon has now passed Fox and is pushing hard for gold.  You know he's got that look in his eyes that says he's either going to take gold or crash trying.  You've got full teams in the top 10 but there are at least 3 spaces between each except for Roscosmos, so there's not a lot of team racing going on.  It's going to be an all out fight to the finish.

Lap 55 - The hell?  Wario storms up through the field, passing 5 drivers on the jump and hitting a series of boosters and passing 3 more before the end of lap 54.  He's now in 4th and closing in on the top 3.  This is remarkable.  Dedede is driving hard but not as crisply as Kirby or Falcon, who are closing in.  Fox, Krystal, Louie, and Olimar are all closely bunched in the race for 5th.  Fuzzer leads the chase pack further behind but is probably driving defensively at this point just trying to hold 9th as he's well behind 8th place.

Lap 56 - And then, just as soon as the fun started, it ends, as Wario's brakes fail and he goes flying into the rail.  Ouch.

Lap 57 - Fox makes a daring maneuver on the double decker turn and passes Falcon and Kirby and then catches Dedede on the jump.  He's now in the lead!

Lap 58 - Dedede immediately responds, and takes back the lead while Falcon presses again.  Kirby isn't showing any restraint either, and latches onto Falcon's wheel

Lap 59 - Kirby makes a pair of passes and is now running alongside Dedede.  He barely avoids crashing on turn 12, and swerves to avoid Dedede as the latter comes off the rail.  I think these two might just kill each other if they crash now.  Further back, Jody Summer makes a big move and moves up into 5th place.

Lap 60 - Final lap and Falcon and Fox pull a two sided pass around Kirby after he takes an aggressive line to try to overtake Dedede but the penguin responds by running him into the rail.  Kirby loses enough speed to not be a factor in the finish.  Dedede has the lead going into the jump but on the subsequent turn Falcon drafts behind him perfectly and then blasts into the lead.  Dedede doesn't give up though, and re-passes on turn 14.  Fox tries to jostle with Falcon but he has none of it and blocks him into the rail.  Approaching the circular obelisk at turn 18, Falcon goes for broke, and takes the inside line, knocking into Dedede's kart and driving him into the left rail coming out of the S-curve.  Falcon takes some of the rail too and is slowed but has enough gas left to make it across the finish line first...though given all the carnage, I'm sure race control will want to review this.  Meanwhile, with Kirby, Fox, and Dedede all slowed from the rail, Jody Summer has a perfect lap and nips Dedede at the line for 2nd, with Dedede, Fox, and Krystal, who caught Kirby in the final stretch, rounding out the top 5 for the moment.

Aftermath - Race control has ruled that Falcon made an illegal pass on Dedede by riding him into the rail from a trailing position on the final straightaway, and gives him a 10 second time penalty for doing so.  Falcon is disconsolate as he realizes the victory has been taken away...but just meters away, Jody Summer breaks into jublilant cheers.  She was in 8th with 7 laps left and in 5th going into the final lap, and somehow, some way, she's taken home the victory at Big Blue!  Dedede finishes 2nd, and Fox finishes 3rd to round out the podium.

Final Results:

1.Jody Summer - 25 pts

2.King Dedede - 20 pts

3.Fox - 18 pts

4.Krystal - 15 pts

5.Kirby - 12 pts

6.Louie - 10 pts

7.Olimar - 9 pts

8.Captain Falcon - 8 pts

9.Fuzzer - 7 pts

10.Wolf - 6 pts

11.Sonic - 5 pts

12.Gary Oak - 4 pts

13.Phoenix Wright - 3 pts

14.Ash Ketchum - 2 pts

15.Pit - 1 pt

Captain Falcon may be somewhat relieved his Chevrolet Top Driver teammate Jody Summer won but he's confused how putting King Dedede into the rails is an illegal move.

"You have to do desperate actions to win races and for some reason the MKRA disallows them," he told reporters afterwards. "Jody didn't pass me at the end to win, race control basically gave it to her on a technicality instead. I had tha race won but didn't even get much of a chance to celebrate because of their dumb rule."

He added "Is this how it is now? Allowing an off site review center in Mushroom Kingdom to determine things based on video evidence instead of just letting us race to the finish? Ask yourselves that question to them and report their answers on your various means of reporting."

It’s becoming very apparent in the aftermath of the ending of last night’s Big Blue Grand Prix that there is a growing rift between drivers, engineers, and fans within the F-Zero circuit and that of Mario Kart.  While many in the crowd were elated at Jody Summer’s victory yesterday, a great number of fans booed at the decision by race control to strip Falcon of the victory.  Many took to social media as well to air their discontent, using the hashtags #falcongotscrewed and #unfalconbelievable.

NBL champion pitcher and F-zero driver Lily Flyer chimed in, saying quote, “That pass, where you back tap the rear wheel of the guy in front of you and make him skid, I’ve made that pass many times in F-zero competition and was never given time penalty or black flagged for it.  Falcon has done it to me personally and I’ve never ven complained about it.  That’s just racing.”

Falcon’s arch nemesis Samurai Goroh is also sticking up for him.  “Is that a sporting maneuver?  Probably not, but gimme a break, it’s the 2nd to last corner of a Grand Prix Race.  It was his best shot to win. Dedede’s a big guy like me, he’s not easy to get around, so the rear wheel tap n go is a great way to get it done.  Maybe Dedede wasn’t expecting it so he lost control into the rail and that made it worse than it was. But between getting banned for the Battle Arena because he stuck up for his teammate last week, and now this...Falcon is really getting a raw deal in the MKRA.  I’m sure the team executives are livid too.”

Falcon has officially protested the result.  The MKRA will hold a hearing about the matter on Wednesday.  Reportedly MKRA officials are consulting with members of the Federacion Internacional de Automobile (FIA), and they will assist in helping to mediate this appeal.

Link to comment

The MKRA has denied Captain Falcon’s appeal, standing by race control’s decision to penalize him for making what they deemed “a dangerous action causing a deliberate crash on the final lap of the Big Blue Grand Prix.”

Such a move is consistent with FIA regulations, which gives race control discretion to give time penalties or black flag drivers for causing collisions on the track.  It seems here that the MKRA, possibly looking forward to events in the human world next year, is trying to sync their rules and discipline policies up with that of the FIA rules used in Formula 1.

No doubt this will an unpopular decision in the F-Zero sphere, where racing has historically been much more cutthroat than in Mario Kart.  Chevrolet executives likely won’t be impressed either, especially with their team banned for next Monday night’s Battle Arena at Skyscraper.

In somewhat related news to that, the MKRA announced that the play in around and first round of Monday’s Battle Arena will see teams kept together.  This means that unlike the earlier battles in Katina and Timber Island, drivers won’t be able to gang up on certain individuals.  From the semifinals onward the matchups will continue to be randomly drawn.

Edit: Also just announced, the play in round and first round will be seeded based on team rankings in the constructors championship.  Teams 1-14 (except Amazon and Chevrolet) will go directly to the first round while teams 15-18 will contest the play in round.  A standings update should be out by tomorrow.

Tonight is the final MKRA event prior to the NWS/VGWBC break, the 3rd battle of the season at Skyscraper Battle Arena.

The Arena has been prepared, and is the same as it was when it was created 22 years ago, with a central elevator shaft hole, a gap between the inner and outer skyscraper that the drivers can fall down, and then obviously drivers can go off the outer edge of the structure as well.  Giant air bags have been deployed in all these areas to keep the racers from hitting the Mushroom City streets below, but Lakitu will charge one balloon for retrieval.

The heavier drivers had a noteworthy advantage in the first two battle arenas this season, but with this arena smaller than those in Katina and Timber Island, and with more obvious hazards, this battle should be easier for the lightweight competitors.  Furthermore, teams will be paired in the first two rounds, rendering the 3v1 play we saw in the first two battles unlikely.  Drivers will win and lose as a team in the opening round and round of 32, after which the competition will be individual from the semifinals onward.

Opening round -

BMW vs Stihl

Carrefour vs Target

Round of 32 -

BMW/Stihl winner vs Delta

Carrefour/Target winner vs CVS

Petco vs Fridays

Roscosmos vs Sherwin Williams

Uber vs Tesco

American vs Ford

Kroger vs Dole

Coors vs Corona

Skyscraper Battle Arena:

Opening round -

Stihl def BMW 6-2

Target def Carrefour 6-5

Elimination round -

Corona Islander def Coors Koopa 6-4

Bowser has a hard time staying on course, falling twice and being first eliminated.  Koopa Troopa fought hard but could not eliminate Yoshi or Birdo

Dole Banana def Kroger Popstar 6-3

DK did better than his heavyweight counterpart in staying on course, and he and Diddy did well to contain Kirby and Metaknight, eliminating both to advance

American Skyworld def Ford Performance 6-2

A dominating performance by Pit and Palutena as they ganged up on Timber after Banjo fell off the level, and ultimately got the advantage and finished it early.

Uber Lawyer def Tesco Princess 6-5

This was the best battle of the night so far.  Rosalina and Wright basically took each other out with a double KO, leading to a 1v1 showdown between Edgeworth and Toadstool, and perhaps this was a case of Mushroom Kingdom's monarch being a little overconfident, as she made a few errors en route to falling down the center elevator shaft to lose.  Shocking but a big win for Uber.

Sherwin Williams Hyrule def Roscosmos Cosmonaut 6-2

This was a romp as Tm3 picked items very well and Zelda hung close throughout.  Louie and Olimar had some difficulties driving too as both of them were off the building at one point.  The Russians won't be happy with that performance.

Petco Hedgehog def Friday's Fun Guys 6-5

This was another very close battle.  This time it ended up with Sonic and Toadette going heads up, and the hedgehog was able to battle his way to victory, using a banana of all things to win the battle for team Petco

CVS Fox def Target Thieves 6-2

Not a close one here as Wario fails to inflict any damage and drives off the building twice.  Ouch.  Poor Waluigi was a sitting duck against Fox and Krystal late on.  At least Target Thieves will bag 3 pts each for winning the opening round match.

Delta Sarasaland def Stihl Venom 6-5

This was the best battle of the first round.  Fuzzer and Daisy, clearly in a bad mood after losing the NBL LCS last night, got off to a roaring start, and eliminated Dash after about 90 seconds, but Wolf was determined not to go quietly, and even eliminated Daisy on his lonesome.  But Fuzzer wasn't about to go home without revenge, and his green shell ended up being the winner.  Stihl Venom will go home with 3 pts each for winning the opening round contest.

Semifinal Round:

random # sequence - 12, 10, 7, 11, 8, 15, 1, 13, 2, 6, 3, 9, 5, 4, 14, 16

Battle 1:

Amy Rose - 1st

Tm3 - 3rd (5 pts)

Phoenix Wright - 4th (3 pts)

Sonic - 2nd (8 pts)

A dream scenario for team Petco Hedgehog as the 2 of them are drawn together and use teamwork to eliminate Wright, and then Tm3 before battling it out amongst themselves for a spot in the final.  In the end, Amy outduels Sonic to reach the final

Battle 2:

Miles Edgeworth - 2nd (8 pts)

Fuzzer - 4th (3 pts)

Yoshi - 3rd (5 pts)

Fox - 1st

Oh boy...well, this was slightly predictable.  Fuzzer gets ganged up on by Edgeworth and Fox and goes out early, and then Yoshi is their next target and the poor dinosaur just can't seem to pick up a decent item to combat them.  Miles doesn't fare well in the heads up vs Fox, who is headed to the final

Battle 3:

Birdo - 4th (3 pts)

Palutena - 1st

DK - 2nd (8 pts)

Zelda - 3rd (5 pts)

This battle was a very close encounter in which everybody was down to 1 balloon.  Birdo ended up driving off the building while Zelda was hit by a red shell.  The heads up battle between DK and Palutena went on for a while, finally ending when Palutena used a green shell from distance to take DK down and reach the final.

Battle 4:

Pit - 4th (3 pts)

Diddy - 3rd (5 pts)

Krystal - 1st

Daisy - 2nd (8 pts)

This battle started out predictably, with Pit, Diddy, and Krystal in a seeming 3v1 against Daisy, but then Krystal decided to double cross Pit and Diddy, nailing both with red shells.  Daisy seized the opportunity to eliminate Pit and then Diddy, but by the time of the heads up match, Krystal had yet to be hit.  Daisy knocked off one of Krystal's balloons, but the Star Fox pilot was built for such a dogfight, and knocked the points leader off the building to clinch victory

Battle Arena Final:

Amy Rose - 4th (15 pts)

Fox - 1st (25 pts)

Palutena - 3rd (18 pts)

Krystal - 2nd (20 pts)

Knowing that Fox and Krystal would no doubt team up, Amy and Palutena tried to battle them as a unit and had some early success but in such a small arena against two mercenaries, the odds were not in their favor.  Amy ended up out first and then Palutena was knocked from the building, making a statement exit though by ejecting from her falling kart, flying back up onto the level and sending armies of skyworld warriors onto the stage, knocking both Fox and Krystal from the tower.  This was an odd scenario as both were down to 1 balloon at the time.  Battle Arena control began to review to see who had been knocked off first but Fox and Krystal exited their karts and met in the center of the arena to discuss it.  They embraced, and then took a bow for the crowd and then re-entered their karts.  Then they battled it out again, with no balloons left.  Eventually, Fox would defeat Krystal, using a red shell to deliver the first hit in their restarted final confrontation.  Battle Arena control has agreed to let the result stand, giving Fox his first MKRA victory on a massive night for team CVS Fox.
