Fire
Welcome to the official Fall 2017 Anime/Manga/Light Novel Discussion Thread! While it may not feel quite like it because of the remaining heat, autumn is on its way, bringing us all more anime to watch and the last (and traditionally, the most prolific) anime season of 2017! I have made some significant overhauls in the past few weeks under the hood, upgrading my previewing tool to become a fully functional website with improved queries to anime database APIs. I am very happy with the result! Because of my updates behind the scenes, there are a few changes with this preview's formatting. I will no longer cap the amount of staff members covered for the major staff positions - you'll see them all because it's so easy to automate now. I have also decided to simplify categories a bit - most notably, the TV Sequels section will mainly be reserved for clear-cut sequels, while reboots and otherwise will be placed in TV Originals. Lastly, I have also decided to change the format and method of my usual recommendations... Well, pay attention for that in a separate post coming soon!New to seasonal anime? New anime airs each season of the year at roughly these time intervals: Winter (January-March) Spring (April-June) Summer (July-September) Fall (October-December) Each new season is typically covered by a multitude of sites that compile the upcoming shows into charts with summaries and information about each show. These charts are an easy way of catching a glimpse at what is probably going to air in the upcoming season. Occasionally, shows on these charts may be delayed to later seasons; for the most part, the seasonal charts are fairly accurate, so if you’re ever confused on what is airing, when it’s airing, or what it is, please check the charts below for any questions you may have! Notable Seasonal Chart Sources:http://anichart.nethttp://neregate.com/blog/anime-charts/http://livechart.me Additionally, there are PV (Promotional Video) trailers that air before the start of each season, which actually show footage of the show. There may also be CM (Commercial) footage, but these tend to have only a few seconds of content by comparison. If I am able to find these, I will include them below. Last, but certainly not least, the studio and staff that works on a show can be a very influential factor. Previous works done by the studio will be included as to give you an idea on what they’ve worked on, as will the staff involved.Fall 2017 Anime Information and Preview:Template Explanation: Show information is covered by the following template: Spoiler Genres: The various genres of the show.Studio: The studio or studios animating the show. Isotope
I forgot Blood Blockade's second season was so soon; thought it was Winter for some reason. Definitely watching that and Vanishing Line. Will wait for more impressions on other shows. "My Girlfriend is a Faithful Virgin Bitch". I would have bet this was an LN adaptation with a title like that my goodness. Edited September 30, 2017 by Isotope Quote Link to comment

Fire
THE RIBBON CORNER - FALL 2017 With collaboration from my bestie Zeldaru, we'll now be doing overview posts on our personal picks for promising shows of the upcoming season whenever I do a preview. We're not going to be covering picks we feel are mostly obvious though, just ones we think will probably be overlooked in favor of more popular shows so they can gain a bit more spotlight. I'm totally watching Kino's Journey, The Ancient Magus' Bride, and Blood Blockade Battlefront S2 as much as the next guy, but I think this approach is more useful. Zeldaru: Spoiler Set in a world covered with sand, Children of the Whales sets a wonderfully mysterious atmosphere within the setting of the giant vessel known as the “Mud Whale”, lifted high by the serene music one would expect from Hiroaki Tsutsumi (of Orange fame). Chakuro, our main character, has lived for so long within the confines of the Mud Whale that he wants to document what lies beyond. With Kyohei Ishiguro’s eye (of Your Lie in April fame) for explosions of color and meticulous detail, Chakuro’s quest to document the outside world will beautifully come to life. Side M, by virtue of being an Idolmaster series (Disregarding Sunrise’s Xenoglassia as casually as one would breath for air), is sure to be a powerful character-driven tale of people singing songs. Led by Takahiro Harada (attached to classics like Blue Exorcist, Anohana, and of course The Idolmaster) and Miyuki Kuroki (attached to similar shows, and now the much too rare occurrence of female anime director), this series should be a blast by fleshing out its characters toward a powerful conclusion. Most importantly, do it for Pierre: Orange, the animation studio truly behind revolutionary CG in anime (sorry, Polygon Pictures), is aiming to take their craft to the next level through the abstract art of Houseki no Kuni, richly implying colorful landscapes, will require pushing CG anime to its limit. Though the idea of anthropomorphized gems is quite simple, the character of Phos, who feels overwhelmed by their place in the world, is driven to understand the bizarre world that she lives in. Above all, led by Love Live’s capable director Takahiko Kyogoku and scripted by Tsuritama’s Toshiya Ono, one can certainly expect a fluid and enjoyable experience. If you need extra motivation, the Love Live character designer is attached as well (Nico ni!). PINE JAM, the studio behind this season’s Gamers!, certainly has an interesting follow-up in mind for Fall 2017 – that being Just Because, with an ostensible slice of life-romance blend. Though Director Atsushi Kobayashi’s experience with Tanaka-kun is Always Listless is quite promising, I would like to call attention to Hajime Kamoshida, original writer of the delightful The Pet Girl of Sakurasou and scriptwriter on heavy-hitting Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-blooded Orphans. It’s not clear where this show is headed, but this setup seems immensely promising, especially with a Nagi Yanagi OP (of Oregairu, NagiAsu fame). If you’re not convinced, look at Kiseki Himura’s Nisekoi-tier facial expressions (you know I’m right): Fire: Spoiler Studio MAPPA is looking to finish their already-strong year with a double serving of promising Fall shows! Garo: Vanishing Line is the latest installment in the Garo series, a long-running tokusatsu franchise that only arrived on the anime scene a few years ago in the form of Garo: Honoo no Kokuin, one of MAPPA's first shows! While the previous Garo anime iterations were heavily based in fantasy settings, Vanishing Line is set to return to the sprawling modern environments that its parent franchise is known for. Helmed by returning staff from Honoo no Kokuin, Vanishing Line is sure to impress with dynamic action scenes and intruiging premise. You can't get much cooler than a motorcycle cloaked in the signature Garo armor, after all. If that wasn't enough MAPPA for you, then I have good news. Originally written by the author of Gantz, MAPPA's anime adaptation of Inuyashiki is set to have an interesting premise as it explores the concept of age and identity. Inuyashiki looks to provide a unique perspective from the lens of a 58-year old man disgruntled with his life, adding to my established theory from Spring season's Alice and Zouroku that putting grumpy old men as a protagonist can only be the best choice. I look forward to seeing what twists this one could bring, seeing how it is labeled as sci-fi... Having spent over 90 hours completing the visual novel, I can say with ease that Dies Irae will be one of the most apparent shows to look out for this season. Financed through crowdfunding, the Dies Irae anime is being produced by studio ACGT, a team that had been pretty dormant as far as spearheading productions go until this past year. The visual novel's original writer, Takashi Masada, is in charge of the writing for the anime as well, so we should hopefully see a smooth transition between mediums! If nothing else, Dies Irae is a wild and unrestrained punching-Nazis-in-the-face experience that is extremely difficult to forget, so I recommend playing the visual novel if the anime interests you enough. Girls' Last Tour combines elements of post-apocalyptic fiction and cute girls doing cute things, leading to a heartwarming story of two girls traveling alone together in the world. I have only read a few chapters of the manga, but it seems very lighthearted despite the subject matter. With studio White Fox at the wheel and the director, Takaharu Ozaki, having a lot of experience in photography throughout his career, I have no doubt the visuals will be able to lend well to the journey of the forgotten duo. Penance Fracture
Dry season, this. My Girlfriend is a Faithful Virgin Bitch I just laughed. Might be worth a try for the same reasons @Mocha watched Eromanga Sensei. Otherwise, the only definite is the continuation of Food Wars! I might give The Ancient Magus' Bride a try if I'm bored and it's not on Netflix or Anime Strike!, solely for the badass character design. Quote Link to comment
Edie Napier
Looking at a lot of the shit that's come out over the past two seasons makes me realize how much my interest in anime's fallen off. Not even the insanely stupid trashy shows sound like fun to watch anymore. Quote Link to comment

inx
I'm here to shill for Magus's bride. It's weirdly reminiscent of Full metal alchemist, and I really have liked the characters and art. Quote Link to comment

I would say Tsubasa Chronicle has a more similar feel to Fullmetal Alchemist in the way you go through different worlds and gain an understanding for the politics that govern those worlds. Penance Fracture
I think I'm calling it: My overall interest in anime has diminished somewhat. In spite of my previous post, I highly doubt that I will actually get around to looking at what does seem interesting this season. I'll continue to follow already-established works like Boruto, Food Wars!, and RWBY; will obviously look at Violet Evergarden--and anything else from Kyoto Animation, really--whenever it finally drops; future Ghibli and Shinkai films are a given; and it's still my intent to finally catch up with One Piece some day. Can't say much apart from that. I'm not going to disparagingly claim the end of some definitive "golden age" (though I will acknowledge that I had one personally--the late-'90's to mid-2000's, in my case--as anyone does), but I'm just not finding the room in my life for this fandom any more. It saddening, but in a way, kind of a relief for right now. I have transition stuff on which to work, school, a hell of a video game backlog, and music is always the most important form of media to consume (and I'm falling behind on that too). I'm content with scaling back on anime for a while. Sorry, @Zeldaru. Quote Link to comment
