Penance Fracture
Eh. Why the fuck not? Not recognizing anybody when I come back after my occasionally massive bouts of inactivity could freshen the experience. Every. Time. Quote Link to comment
purple_beard
I go by many names, you may call me Legion. Quote Link to comment
Kodiack
Display name changes do show in your profile with one of the mods that's been installed, so I'm open loosening restrictions. Heck, if everyone continues to be well-behaved, there's not even a need for strict limits. Fun fact: I haven't seen one reported post since the site started, nor have I had to call anyone out for an avatar or signature, and the only post I've had to remove was an accidental double-post. Add this to the list of things for me to look at this evening. DLurkster, Spring, Doc Brown and 1 other 4 Quote Link to comment
subrosian
Seems fine if we have a name change history thing. Then I could maybe keep up with people Quote Link to comment
Penance Fracture
In all seriousness, I would time-limit this sort of thing e.g. one name change every 72 hours. Part of that idea stems from my fanboy jizz over Majora's Mask, but also because this sort of thing could become stupidly ridiculous if left with no limit. Dancing Mog
Freely may be too much but I think once a week would make sense to me at least. I may start to change my username on the first of the month and leave a line in my sig mentioning who I was before then. Doc Brown 1 Quote Link to comment
Sun
I'm probably not going to change my name much, you guys go ahead. I just wanna know how to change my rank title from "Newbie" to "Hey There, Sun Here". Edited September 30, 2016 by Sun Quote Link to comment

Kodiack
Display names can now be changed once a week, down from once a month. Will see how that plays out. Being able to change display names freely is definitely too open to abuse, even if it likely wouldn't be a problem regardless. Will see how this plays out and tweak things from there. Also, if we ever have a marketplace set up, it should be possible to have an "item" that would allow you to change your display name. That could be an interesting middle ground for highly active people who may want more changes. Lucina, Neonocyte, The Guardian Mew and 2 others 5 Quote Link to comment
K
I honestly have never seen how infinite name changes could be abused. And honestly even if it were abused somehow would it not be possible to revoke a specific user's ability to do so? ace and Spring 2 Quote Link to comment
DLurkster
That mod you spoke of to see name history is up too, Kodiack? And thanks for the name change being more freely. I'm cool with it. I don't change my name often or at all but glad the option is there for those who do. Quote Link to comment
Kodiack
Eh, I suppose if there's any time to test drive radical changes, it's now. Unlimited name changes for everyone. Don't abuse it, or the privilege will be taken away. K 1 Quote Link to comment
DLurkster
Oh my bad, it's already there unless it just came up with your last post or I missed from last post. I'm going with the latter. Good job, Kodiack. Quote Link to comment

New members probably woulda had a hard time recognizing him, had he not had a unique rank. And it probably wouldn't be too hard to write a script that changed names regularly. One time I actually saw someone manage to get an identical username by copypasting a character from Notepad, though this is probably fixed. While revoking the privilege on a user to user basis is possible, you can still end up in situations where it is hard to tell who is who while users are not actually abusing name changes. That said, a profile section for a common name that shows up when you hover over the user's name would be my vote. Or market, cause market. Quote Link to comment

I don't how changing names daily or even multiple times a day is abuse. The other one I could see though. Quote Link to comment
