DLurkster
I made my brackets too with all the regions filled out by hand. It wasn't hard finding a bracket model, it was just a little more difficult to resize bigger so I can either type the fighters or write them by hand. I chose the former, just thought it has a nice touch. My laptop has touchscreen to write so why not? I realized this before making this, we all don't need to do this as long one makes one they just update it with that said to update this round by round instead of bracket by bracket will still take a while to do in real-time. So I see what krazy is talking about just this part and updating. So we should decide who's gonna do that. I personally don't mind from how I did this so let me know guys and I'll proceed with the updating. purple_beard 1 Quote Link to comment

purple_beard
Ok so here is my bracket submission: DL Regional 1 DL/Link 8 PB / Dark Pit Link 4 PB / Pac Man Link 5 DL / Snake Pac Man Link 3 TKO / Robin 6 Eli / Byleth Robin Wii Fit Trainer 2 Eli / Wii Fit Trainer 7 TKO / Ike Wii Fit Trainer Eli Regional Dark Samus 1 Eli / Dark Samus 8 DL / Roy Dark Samus 4 DL / Young Link Dark Samus 5 Eli / Little Mac Little Mac Dark Samus 3 PB / Terry 6 TKO / Wolf Terry Terry 2 TKO / Bowser Jr 7 PB / Roy Bowser Jr TKO+J1:P25 Regional 1 TKO / King K Rool 8 Eli / Inkling King K Rool 4 Eli / Hero Hero 5 TKO / Pikachu Hero 3 DL / Hero Hero 6 PB / Corrin Corrin 2 PB / Bowser Bowser 7 DL / Kirby Bowser PB Regional ROB 1 PB / ROB 8 TKO / Donkey Kong ROB 4 TKO / Pokemon Trainer ROB 5 PB / Inceneroar Incineroar 3 Eli / Marth ROB 6 DL / Yoshi Yoshi 2 DL / Byleth Byleth 7 Eli / Robin Byleth Dark Samus vs ROB .... Dark Samus AS far as opening round commentarty I think my DP could be DL's link but... I like my Pac Man's chances against DL's Snake TKO Robin DL Byleth will be a tight one IMO I like Eli's WFT DL's Roy might hold up against Eli's DS, but Eli's DS has been getting us all DL's YL and Eli's LM is going to be tight but I think Eli is just enough better here. I think my Terry can get by TKO's Wolf but I have to avoid grabs. TKO is nasty with Bowser Jr. I think my Roy can make at least interesting. I like Eli's Inkling but somehow I think TKO's KKR is better. Might be stage dependent. Eli's Hero I think will be better than TKO's Pikachu I think this DL Hero PB Corrin matchup will be tight but I think I need to avoid any of his strong magic attacks to survive. Corrin in this case for me gives me hope I can do said task. While I did think my Bowser would beat DL's Kriby... I hate playing Kirbys.... won't be surprised if somehow via Kriby's attributes I don't win. ROB vs DK..... if I can avoid grabs I think I got a shot. I think my Incineroar can get the best of TKO's PT but.... I can see things going awry Haven't seen Eli with Marth and DL with Yoshi in awhile-- I know DL has played Yoshi well so... I find that final Byleth Robin matchup intriguing. I haven't seen Eli's Robin enough but DL isn't bad with Byleth. Quote Link to comment
DLurkster
@TKrazyO: Well of course yours is gonna be better, you have experience with this, as I don't do this at all. But nice job Krazy but as I said really only one person should be doing this, do mind updating that once we finish the 32 fighter round into 16 fighters and etc in real-time? 1 hour ago, purple_beard said: Ok so here is my bracket submission: DL Regional 1 DL/Link 8 PB / Dark Pit Link 4 PB / Pac Man Link 5 DL / Snake Pac Man Link 3 TKO / Robin 6 Eli / Byleth Robin Wii Fit Trainer 2 Eli / Wii Fit Trainer 7 TKO / Ike Wii Fit Trainer Eli Regional Dark Samus 1 Eli / Dark Samus 8 DL / Roy Dark Samus 4 DL / Young Link Dark Samus 5 Eli / Little Mac Little Mac Dark Samus 3 PB / Terry 6 TKO / Wolf Terry Terry 2 TKO / Bowser Jr 7 PB / Roy Bowser Jr TKO+J1:P25 Regional 1 TKO / King K Rool 8 Eli / Inkling King K Rool 4 Eli / Hero Hero 5 TKO / Pikachu Hero 3 DL / Hero Hero 6 PB / Corrin Corrin 2 PB / Bowser Bowser 7 DL / Kirby Bowser PB Regional ROB 1 PB / ROB 8 TKO / Donkey Kong ROB 4 TKO / Pokemon Trainer ROB 5 PB / Inceneroar Incineroar 3 Eli / Marth ROB 6 DL / Yoshi Yoshi 2 DL / Byleth Byleth 7 Eli / Robin Byleth Dark Samus vs ROB .... purple_beard
@TKrazyO I had planed to work the 1 seed matchups clockwise starting with top left then the 2s, 3s....ect... Just to keep up the alternating and play up... Quote Link to comment
purple_beard
Played some practice rounds this afternoon. DLurkster
Thanks, Krazy. If you can't do it, that's all good. We'll be saying out loud after each round who facing who, it will be up to us to remember who's facing who so it would help to have some visual. I'll do my best to remember who I am facing to make it easier. Also, I know you guys probably don't want to hear this as this tourney may run a little long, I maybe coming in late. I was talking with a friend and realized I have ate since 2pm so like 30 minutes I started into hour call I started cooking. I might at most be 10 minutes late, I'll be eating my dinner while playing as well too of course. Just thought to let you guys know and PB make the arena, makes more sense now that I am gonna be late. Quote Link to comment
Surge135
Who knew watching the tourney instead of playing would be so fun? Thanks for suggesting such a thing, PB~ Better luck next time, bud. Quote Link to comment
purple_beard
I think the format went well.... and yeah.... 8 seeds per 4 players is about as much as any one game night could take on unless we took the matches down in time. I think the stage debate should have been brought up/settled beforehand in the set up process because I was going to with normal stages but then again, in this kind of tourney set up the other stage styles probably do work best unless hazards get turned off. Not to say we couldn't work around the seeds like we did eventually do but I could have sworn I stated that we'd work 1 then 2 then 3 and work around clockwise.... but I mean...its all good. Not sure there was a better idea for playing ones self but I am open to it. If we somewhat like this kind of format.... maybe for another playoff like NHL or NBA we could try the seeded bracket again and I could look into tagging past participants for more players. But some issues for that might come up in how Smash can set things up for online play...kind of as we found out tonight. Quote Link to comment
DLurkster
I agree the format went as well as it should. As for lowering time, to me doesn't make somewhat of difference if down by a minute or 2, like it two ppl are evenly match they may not be a KO and we still be just long saved by couple minutes. As for the stage selection, I sort get the contention but I brought it up twice leading up tonight over the course of the week and that is what we did last week. That is not turn that aspect of your tourney to my rule but just as you have seed and who will play as who when there's duplicates, the omega and the battlefield is to make sure match up with certain characters is fair. To me it made sense to continue that, just turning off hazards only turn off background stuff the actually stage form as is might be advantage for someone. So that is why it is better to have battlefield and omega to even the stage playing field. Not against mentioning ppl come fill in the brackets. So all in all I'm good but going forward let's keep the time at 4 minutes, stage selection between Omega and Battlefield and go clockwise by bracket and any duplicate players someone choose who they gonna play with the other player. Let's see how this goes again and before altering minutes, I think we were fine the few stopping just added if end up going pass 1am then decrease the time by a minute then. GGs and congrats Eli on tournament victory! Quote Link to comment
purple_beard
Iron Man Challenge aka Smashdown will be held next Saturday at 10. For new participants we basically draft down the roster playing the rules once a character is picked it is eliminated and the person with the most wins is the winner. If you are interested in playing stop by and post so we can know how best to construct the room at start time. Quote Link to comment
Eliwood8
Good games guys, good tournament. Hopefully if we ever do this again we'll all be on the same page for little details in the rules. Lots of good matches though—I knew I'd end up killing myself using Dark Samus against Wolf's reflect, but that was a really nice close match. Also I guess I hadn't really considered before how often I play characters that charge up and hold projectiles. Quote Link to comment
TKrazyO
So I went back and read through the week long prep of this tournament. Didn't see that it would be just 4 minute timed matches so that's my bad. I also didn't see that we would be doing regional rotations with matches. Even though I didn't see that, everyone else was still confused by it when it was mentioned. I believe it was only done that way because of how each region's matches were set up. The problem with how the matches were set up was there was no variety in the region. With what we had the earliest someone would go against themselves was the 2nd round, which happened in every region. If picks were spread out to where 2 regions and half of 1 would have all participants face each other within 6 matches (was referenced in an earlier PB post), that would've been more variety and leave the possibility of facing yourself at the very least in the 3rd round. With this bracket and how the tournament went, if DL didn't pick one of my characters in the 2nd round of Eliwood's region, I would've only faced him once. A majority of my matches were with Eli and so were DL's. I know the Battlefield/Omega stage thing was last minute. Now to the Arena setup. Tournament is 1v1 comprised of only 4 people. 1v1 is an option and passwords are a thing. Why 4 player Smash with the arena open to 6 people? I think random Battlefield/Omega stages were an option too that I saw when the room was being remade but that was last minute. It took until a random friend joined for the remade room. About the tournament: I had a couple good matches with @Eliwood8. A majority being an absolute beating cause he's just that good. I would've liked more matches with @DLurkster since we tend to have good back and forths. Atmosphere was terrible since the focus on 1v1s takes out most of the conversational points we have. Had people using the chat for the stream though. All in all: Spoiler Was not a fan of this Tournament. Quote Link to comment

To address some of the concerns here: Spoiler * I thought I had said it pretty clear that we would work clockwise around the brackets instead of doing one complete bracket at a time. I also thought I was pretty clear on doing clockwise rotations starting with DL's region starting with the 1 seed matchups, then 2, then 3 ect as opposed to to doing the next matchup below the 1 seed matchup. I just didn't see how that would be confusing.... I guess for some reason it was. * It didn't help that I lost all my opening round matches but it was a concern of mine about having scenarios of playing yourself, which would be unavoidable depending on how matches played out in reality. As to variety of matches--that was almost impossible to avoid under the set up because unless you have 1 player to 1 fighter which would have meant having 32 individual people in the tournament you would have to have a way to rotate around the matchups. And I stated that in takes 6 matches for everyone to play each other once... you can't have six matches evenly rotated out in a win advance/lose out scenario and keeping it within a multiple of four bracket. Of note I did propose an alternate option about drafting out fighters to get to 64 and then we'd pick matchups we would want to play--no one seemed interested in that option--also, in that kind of scenario, it would kind of be weird to have a champion as it would more the fighter than the person playing the fighter... *When I was forming the room I did originally pick 1v1 to start with but then there was that long debate about getting people in properly so it got changed to friends but there was also the thing about drops after play... Agree this could have been executed better. Heck, I still don't know who Kat was LOL. *I respect the criticisms though and it was a first try. I just don;'t know how a seeded match up[ like this could work better but I would entertain opinions.... but keep in mind, it also depends on who wins for parts of it too--when you are working with people using multiple fighters. purple_beard
I looked through the items list a moment ago... for Easter would we want to turn on bunny hood(The Easter Bunny) and food (for Easter candy) for the matches? ...I had thought there was a Yoshi egg for Easter Eggs but I guess not. *********** I don't see a way I won't be in on time but I am covering a double header in baseball today...but should be done well before we start. DLurkster
Yes, I recall you bringing up egg item for tonight and I'm cool with that but I realized there isn't egg items per se but food items is the next best thing but it doesn't sound that Easterly. Bunny hood sure if no doesn't mind some speedy characters. I'll have food and bunny hood on low that should suffice enough without change the usual matches for the Iron Man Showdown Challenge.
