Chrom
There wasn't a general discussion topic about this already, so I thought I'd post one. The definitive edition of the Mario Kart 8 game is here on Nintendo Switch as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, bringing with it additional features such as new characters, a new battle mode, and the ability to carry up to two items at once. Get ready for more anti-gravity racing at home or on the go thanks to the portable Nintendo Switch console. Want an easy way to chat with others on Ninfora while racing or battling? I'm getting the game here in an hour and a half and can't wait! Midnight release? I don't think anyone around here was doing that. **************** **************** Not sure if there is a list out there about what you actually unlock in the car parts arena, in other words MK8 started you with a set of stuff and you earned the rest, but all the DLC karts and parts in this version, instead of being "free" will be obtained through unlocking... So, I think I'll update posts as I get stuff and at what coin levels. Also, I haven't seen mentioned if you 3* 150cc you automatically earn the gold and rank for the lower cups. Chrom
I've not looked into it but I can't imagine them changing that thing regarding star ranks counting retroactively for earlier cups. It's a pretty good quality of life addition that ought to stay. Quote Link to comment
purple_beard
https://www.mariowiki.com/Mario_Kart_8_Deluxe Looks like some stats are up.... but their grid is lacking A LOT of details.... understandably so. ************ ************ I'll say that BotW wasn't a controller intensive game like a MK game can be.... this will really bring out Pro vs JC Grip like never before. Also, playing this in portable mode will be interesting.... how well does the game feel in terms of play in that mode... ********** ********* *** OLD*** UNLOCKING TIERS https://www.mariowiki.com/Mario_Kart_8 Every 50 coins up to 1000 Every 100 coins up to 2800 Edited April 28, 2017 by purple_beard Quote Link to comment
Ithrak Utopia
I'm pretty much set to enjoy this game. I have purchased two more Joy-Cons today, so that my siblings and I can all play that battle mode. First time since Double Dash that we're getting Bob-omb Blast, and I played the hell out of that. Luigi's Mansion is about to shake all over once again. purple_beard and Marxforever 2 Quote Link to comment
EH_STEVE
Grabbing my preorder of this and Zelda Chess, than I'll be burning rubber all evening. Plan is to play solo until I've got my groove back and a bunch of unlockables under my belt. Then I might see you suckas online. Quote Link to comment
purple_beard
Say what you want about MK8DX, but at BBY this morning when I got there just after 10am proper, there was a line of 6 people to get Switches and MK8DX. It looked like they had 20+ unitts on hand with some tied to buy online for in-store pick up.... *********** Loving Purple Inkling and STD Kart wit the purple trim. purple_beard
Played some AI battle, aside from needing to figure out how I lost multiple kills by being hit only once.... I like the new arenas HOT TAKES on ones I played Sweet Sweet Kingdom: not very many great hiding spaces but you can get some great blind turn/corner hits. good amount of loops to have come back in from top to head through the center decent overal Dragon Palace: Loved the look Liked some of the design elements, but it felt like a MKWii battle arena in that it was too open. Lunar Colony: I am surprised I liked this one least of all as a technical arena. The crater jumping is epic. Outer perimeter doesn't offer much cover. Decently mixed short and long loops to get back to the center. I swear the crater jumping gave you more float time in the air like you were in actual zero gravity Urchin Underpass: This might be this game's Block Fort. Lots of cubbies, hiding spaces, and under/over passes and jumps on the sides and working your way to the center. Feels like it would actually be a Splatoon battle map! Ink gives you a riding through a oil slick feel. **** Battle Stadium: Borderline too open for battle mode like a MKWii stadium BUT... ..The twists and turns with the arena surface and the way you could set your self up for some surprise attacks makes it feel less "vacant" of action like some of the old MKWii arenas. WuHu Town: Love it. Alleyways really make the arena. They remodeled some parts from what was there from MKDS though... improved it IMO.... but no real outskirt circle to drive around. Battle Course 1 As someone who spent countless hours on this arena in SMK.... I LOVE THIS ARENA Ability ride up and on the borders is EPIC...totally changes the game play strategy for this arena. Also, if you hit the ramps for the borders you could boost jump off the side. I like the outer rim offshoots allow you to jump back off a ramp back into the center (or you could just drive right out the other side) The central square is a wooden floor and not a dirt pit this time. Only time will tell if the columns holding up the center's rook are a good or a bad design choice. Luigis Mansion: Just as fun as it used to be. rainy weather on the top level was a nice touch. basement felt tighter than the original... I think they made the room smaller. I think this one would be another top choice for battle. Edited April 28, 2017 by purple_beard Quote Link to comment

N64 Block Fort and Parking Deck were two of the best arenas ever developed for MK Battle mode. That said, Urchin Underpass, gives off a great vibe like those two did. Quote Link to comment

When I first played today I had no real problems. Then I played a bit later and got jumped into 200cc and there felt like times where it wouldn't let me turn even when I was still holding the sticks in the direction I wanted to turn. And usually it was in the last few races of a cup. I then hopped back into 150cc and same thing happened mostly. I don't know if it's my joy-cons responding or what, but I noticed it's bad on tracks with a lot of turns. Quote Link to comment
