Every season we play 1 series at neutral sites around the world.  This season it was in the third series of the season.  This year Canada, Mexico, Dominican Republic, South Korea, Australia and 11 other countries hosted

Now I remember. That's been done since I joined.

i thought that had long been established prior to 2012. Stupid me.

(What happened to the idea of playing a series in MLB stadiums? Although the teams playing in Washington and Toronto already play in the respective stadiums in the NBL International Series anyway...)

We actually did play an MLB series of games for all teams in the 2016 Clausura. With the new schedule and expansion it didn't happen this season but I think we'll figure out a way to make that work in the 2017 Clausura

And my Savages faced Mute City at Comerica Park prior to that series.

That was fun for the Golden Faygo Trophy to be contested in the Motor City.

Following a night of crazy storms, thunder and lightning across Termina Field and Clock Town...the NWS resumes tonight with Game 4

Hyrule 5-6 Termina - Four Giants Stadium, Clock Town

1st inning - a good start for Hyrule as Link and Darunia drive in runs off of Lulu to give it a 2-0 early advantage

2nd inning - Hyrule has decided to throw Malon on 3 days rest with the severe weather pushing game 4 back a day.  It's working so far as she looks good through 2 innings

3rd inning - Termina respond with 2 runs of their own...Onilink drives in a pair with a double into the right field corner to tie the game

4th inning - Hyrule answer right back...it's Rauru blasting his 2nd home run of the series to make it a 3-2 Hyrulian advantage

5th inning - Both teams score in the 5th, for Hyrule its Saria driving in a run, and for Termina, it's an answer by Skull Kid who blasts a solo home run to make it 4-3

6th inning - nothing much happening in the 6th, still 4-3 as the starters yield to the bullpens

7th inning - another snoozer of an inning...getting late on now but Termina still very much in it

8th inning - Majora hasn't conceded a run all postseason...until now, as Darunia blasts one deep to center and gone to make it 5-3.  Hyrule 1 inning away from evening the series as Talon gets through the 8th

9th inning - Oh my.  Mikau gets through the ninth, and then Agahnim immediately runs into trouble, putting Igos and Anju on.  Darmani pinch hits and draws a walk to load em up, and then following a strikeout by Aveil, Kafei singles to make it 5-4, and then Onilink comes up and hits one off the wall in right center to pull off the come from behind walk off 6-5 win for Termina.  They go up 3-1 in the series and can clinch their first NBL title in Hyrule tomorrow

NSN National TV Gamecast - Nintendo World Series Game 5 - Termina lead series 3-1

Termina 2-7 Hyrule - Three Goddess Stadium, Hyrule Castle Town

1st inning - Hyrule start strongly in game 5, as Mido and Link both drive in runs off of Romani to make it a 2-0 early advantage.  That should get the crowd involved early

2nd inning - Not much going on in the 2nd...Zelda in particular looks very comfortable so far

3rd inning - 2 more runs on the board for Hyrule, it's Link and Darunia this time doing the damage to make it a 4-0 advantage.

4th inning - It's been a tough series for Romani and she's likely out now as Hyrule make it 6-0, this time it was Zelda of all people getting an RBI, followed by Mido's 2nd of the night.  Termina have a chance to win the NBL title tonight but so far it's all going wrong for them

5th - a quiet 5th inning as Zelda is still cruising.

6th - Mr Barton is doing his best to try to keep hope alive for Termina, but the bats will need to wake up at some point

7th - Just for kicks, Iron Knuckle hits a solo home run to make it 7-0.  Evidently Hyrule feels they have this result in hand as they've pulled Zelda from the game after 6 1/3.  Maybe they're keeping her pitch count reasonable to possibly have her available for a possibly game 7?  Hmm

8th inning - Termina has emptied their bench, and Sakon and Deku Scrub end up driving in runs off of Flat and Sharp to make it 7-2, but nobody on the Hyrule side seems overly concerned.

9th inning - And that's that...Hyrule win 7-2, they stay alive to force game 6 back in Termina tomorrow night.  The prospective pitching matchup is Impa against Cremia for that one

Well when you're in a pressure situation like what Hyrule is being down 3-2 on home soil with the series on the line, a good start helps.

And we need a Game 7 tomorrow? Perfect.

So when does the NAFA Confederations Cup begin?

The NAFA Confederations Cup is scheduled to begin today.  Obviously with the NWS playing Game 6 tonight and possibly a game 7 tomorrow, I wasn't planning on having the 2 events overlap, but I think it's ok so long as Termina's group doesn't play today. (Ocarina Hyrule isn't involved in the CC).

With Termina in group B, we'll have Group A and C start play tonight, with B and D playing their first matches on Monday following the conclusion of the NWS

NSN National TV Gamecast - Nintendo World Series Game 6 - Termina leads series 3-2

Hyrule 3-5 Termina - Four Giants Stadium, Clock Town - hot and humid - 87 degrees

1st inning - Impa and Cremia both start the game strongly, striking out 2 apiece. It's a pulsing crowd in Termina's capital, with fans chanting for an hour before the game even began

2nd inning - Again some solid pitching by the starters as neither team has a hit just yet

3rd inning - The pitching mastery continues for the moment.  A heck of a duel developing here between the Sheikah sage from Kakariko and the ranch owner from southern Termina

4th - Hyrule grabs a 1-0 advantage in the top half of the inning thanks to a Link RBI single.  But Termina cancel that out with a Skull Kid RBI double to make it 1-1

5th - Not much going on in the 5th as neither team gets a hit.  This game is tense and tight...the air is thick and heavy and it's not just because of the humidity

6th inning - Hyrule gets the lead as Ruto bangs an RBI single to left to make it a 2-1 Knights advantage

7th inning - Hyrule went ahead 3-1 in the top of the 7th as Saria bangs in an  RBI single to left.  Termina hits back in the bottom though as Odolwa hits a solo home right to right to make it 3-2

8th inning - Well if there's been one area where Termina has been superior in this series it's been in the bullpen, and in the 8th Majora goes 1-2-3, while Talon and Maud both ran into trouble.  With one out, Aveil and Kafei reached, then Skull Kid walked to load em up.  After Maud came on to strike out Onilink, the big hit came with 2 outs, a bases clearing double by Igos Du Ikana.  5-3 to Termina and they are 3 outs away with Mikau coming on

9th inning - Mikau started by striking out Tarin, Agitha pinch hit and drew a walk, and then Saria singled to put 2 on with 1 out. But with Link on deck...Mikau gets Vaati to hit into a game ending double play.  That's the game and the series...Termina, 2 times champions of the minor leagues, have now won their first NBL Championship!!

Triforcemaster gets a huge ovation from the Mooncrushers faithful, some of whom are also wearing Termina national team colors.  Even the section of traveling Knights supporters serenade Tm3 as he enters the field, a nod to the 2 NBL titles he won for Hyrule.

"Ladies and gentlemen...this was a year unlike any other.  The NBL as we know it changed fundamentally, evolving into a 3-tier pyramid with promotion and relegation, and also an expansion of its Premier division from 24 teams to 32.  I'm extremely proud to say that without that evolution, this night wouldn't be possible.  Here you have the Hyrulian Knights, one of the storied franchises of the NBL, 3 time NBL champions, going up against a 2 time minor league champion but a team that was playing in the majors for the very first time, the Termina Mooncrushers.  And also for the first time...a World Series pitting 2 teams from the same part of the Nintendo Universe."

"Change sure is good isn't it?"

**cheers from the crowd

"This was a tight contest for sure.  You had great contact hitting, great fielding, great starting pitching on both sides.  But ultimately this series I think all would agree was decided largely in the bullpen.  Ladies and gentlemen, your NWS co-MVPs, Majora and Mikau!"

**cheers as Majora accepts her award and Mikau accepts his

"And now, the one you've been waiting for.  In one season, from the minor leagues to the championship of the NBL, the unbelievable story with the perfect ending...it gives me great pleasure to announce to the world, your Season 27 2017 Apertura NBL Champions, the Termina Mooncrushers!!

**Tm3 hands the Miyamoto trophy to Kafei and Mayor Dotour and they hold it high as the team goes wild and the confetti flies and bomb flower fireworks go off overhead.

The rules governing the NBL and the NAFA and who can enter are historically somewhat different.

In the NBL, franchises must be either from a Nintendo first party game series, or from a third party series that over the course of their history have released a majority of their games on Nintendo consoles.  This rule was enacted in 2013 prior to the expansion from 20 to 24 teams and actually saw Raccoon City and Kingdom Hearts move over from the NBL to the Sony League.  Those teams were replaced by 2 expansion clubs, Tokyo Typhoons & Arendelle Icebreakers.  The latter was a bit interesting as I actually never researched whether a majority of Disney games met the Nintendo standard (Street Fighter did easily), but we figured those games' historic impact were enough for a Disney team to be grandfathered in.

For the NAFA...the standard for entry was lower.  A country could enter the NAFA if they ever had a game in their franchise sell at least 2 million copies on a Nintendo system, or if they had 2 games sell at least 1 million, or 3 or more that sold at least 500,000.  That's what led to the lineup of nations we have currently.  Franchises like Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat, and Final Fantasy, which are generally considered to be Sony franchises today, were nevertheless able to meet that standard for NAFA inclusion, whereas they don't meet the more stringent standard for the NBL.

Additionally, There isn't a comparable soccer competition for Sony and/or Microsoft like for baseball.  It's not like Ostreinsburg, Outworld, or Spira would have anywhere to go.

Talks between the SBL and NBL reportedly are inching closer to an agreement regarding the two leagues doing exhibition matches against teams from both leagues, so close in fact that teams from both leagues have announced talks of their own for potential opponents.

Among the highlights:

The Uncharted franchise announced it was planning talks with the Mushroom Kingdom Fireflowers for potential matches, despite reports that Wumpa Island was planning such discussions instead.

Speaking of those Bandicoots, the teams from the Crash Bandicoot series had a Plan B instead and announced that they would instead hold talks with the Sarasaland Coins for their matches, with Coco herself saying that the team would travel to England with the NAFA Confederations Cup set to take place, with Sarasaland taking part in, along with Ostreinberg, with the Soul themselves announcing similar talks in England, but declining to specify possible opponents at the time. Coco also pointed out that they planned to hold their home match at the Sydney Cricket Ground to allow more Australians to see the matches, also saying that beginning with the 2017 Clasura SBL Season, one home series for the team would be played there instead of on Wumpa Island.

The Mishima Zaibatsu Fists announced plans to possibly face fellow Japanese team Tokyo Typhoons to see which team would be the best to represent the Land of the Rising Sun with the Typhoons also announcing such plans.

With the 2024 Olympics bid set to be decided between Paris and LA, the Sly Cooper team based there have told French TV station TF1 they plan to possibly do a home and home with the Los Angeles Lawyers with Carmelita Fox being quoted as saying "it would be fair for our two cities to face off against one another given that for the 2024 Olympics, our two cities, with two successful stints as Olympics hosts each under our belts," given that by the time August rolls around, it would be a few weeks until the official announcement on September 13 in Lima, Peru for both the 2024 and 2028 Olympics, with one city getting the 2024 Olympics and the other 2028, a first in Olympics history.

Reports have come in that the next two hosts for the Summer Olympics have been finalized well before the September vote in Lima with Los Angeles hosting the 2028 Olympics following a deal reached with the IOC according to USA Today and other media outlets.

Paris will receive the 2024 Olympics bid as a result, ending a century of waiting to host another Summer Olympics for the French capital. LA will end a 32 year drought for the US in terms of hosting the Summer Olympics which goes back to 1996, hosted by Atlanta that year with New York and Chicago in the running for the 2012 and 2016 Olympics respectively, losing both times to eventual hosts London and Rio.
