Quarterfinals LAST FIGHT!

Hogwarts vs. Ostreinsburg  @ Splatoon Stadium, Inkopolis

9-7

Sarasaland vs. Twilight @ Little Big Stadium, Craftown

9-7

1st inning: Fred and George Weasley do an amazing twin magic, but Cassandra and Sophitia show off and tell the boys how it's done. Meanwhile, Blue Virus knocks it out of the park!

2nd inning: Draco Malfoy shows them Slytherine pride, and although Malo is the unsung hero of his team for now, the combination of Fire and Hammer Bro nails it!

3rd inning: Ivy and Cervantes with another unusual combo. Darbus and Ralis make some Twilight magic, but... Red and Blue Virus. Meh.

4th inning: Nothing unique, but Iza and Hena score to make their match a tie.

5th inning: Monty Mole with the home run!

6th inning: NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM! VOLDO! GOOOOOOOOMBA!

7th inning: Cho Chang performs some lovely magic, whereas Telma does a job well done!

8th inning: Every team gets a point, and it might be going on longer for the first battle!

9th inning: The first battle continues, while Reggie ends their night with a win! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!

10th inning: Finally the duo of Ron and Harry puts their respective battle to an end!

It's now...

Hogwarts vs. Corneria! A high-flying battle!

Sarasaland vs. Gotham! ... I have no idea how I can make this work...

We’ll have an off day today, and then the semifinals will commence on Tuesday.  Semifinals will be Tues-Thurs will finals coming Fri-Sun.  MKRA Subcon Grand Prix will move over to Mon 9/17 if the schedule isn’t showing that already.

After some Microsoft v Sony action coupled with some intra-Nintendo battles in the quarterfinals, we’ve now hit the money time of the VGWBC, where the top teams in Microsoft and Sony League will now take their shot at 2 of Nintendo’s best, with only 4 wins separating each team from a World Championship.

It should be noted that no non-Nintendo team has ever won the Video Game World Championship, and by my count, only 2 from Sony (Spira and Mishima Zaibatsu) and 1 from Microsoft (Doatec) have even reached the Finals.  But this could be the year that all changes, as a case could be made that Hogwarts and Gotham, two big-market clubs that won their either their league or domestic cup in 2018, have actually been the 2 best teams in this tournament.  And just as fittingly, the 2 remaining clubs from the NBL, Corneria and Sarasaland, are the two that are without any trophies to their name in 2018 (Sarasaland’s World Cup title notwithstanding).  Analysts would have to conclude that if it’s ever going to happen that this is one of the best situations to make it possible

It is hard to believe that it has been 17 years since the horrible attacks on America that occurred on September 11,2001 on a seemingly normal day that would be anything but normal after the loss of nearly 3,000 lives.

The Coins tonight face Gotham which is New York in the DC Comcis universe with a chance to get a 1-0 lead in the best of 3 VGWBC semifinals.

Tonight, our two teams will pause before game 1 to observe a moment of silence for the lives lost that day and to tell the world we will never forget those lost in those horrible attacks.

3rd inning Scores for VGWBC Semifinals Game 1

Hogwarts 3

Corneria 0

Tough start for Corneria as Hermoine Granger is throwing smoke, and Neville Longbottom has already gone deep with a 2-run home run.

Sarasaland 1

Gotham 1

Reggie Fils-Aime got the Coins off to a fast start with a solo HR but Robin’s RBI single in the 2nd tied things up.

6th inning:

Corneria 2

Hogwarts 5

Corneria got 2 runs in the 4th on Falco’s RBI double but Hagrid’s 2 run bomb in the 5th pushed the Wizards back ahead by 3.

Sarasaland 1

Gotham 1

No runs since the early going here as the pitchers have really settled in nicely.  Daisy is an intimidating figure on the mound usually, but Batman isn’t one to shrivel in any situation.  This is good.

Final Scores for VGWBC Game 1s:

Hogwarts 6

Corneria 2

Hogwarts finishes it off, holding the powerful Corneria offense to just 5 hits to move within 1 win of the finals.

Sarasaland 1

Gotham 2 F/10

It was a tight contest all the way, and it ultimately ended up in extra innings.  In the end the Coins had good chances in the 9th and 10th but couldn’t get the big hit to win it, and eventually in the bottom of the 10th, the Penguins got the breakthrough as Superman doubled to left to score Poison Ivy to end it and take a 1-0 Series lead

VGWBC Semifinals National TV Gamecast - Game 2's:

Hogwarts 2-9 Corneria - Umbrella Stadium, Raccoon City

Gotham 3-4 Sarasaland - Valkyrie Park, Randgriz

1st inning - No blood early in either contest, with none of the four teams getting a runner past first.

2nd inning - Corneria draws first blood in a big way, as Fox homers, then Peppy and Slippy are driven in on a 2 out double by Krystal to make it a 3-0 lead for Corneria.  No score in the other game yet.

3rd inning - Monty Mole and Wiggler have back to back RBI singles to put Sarasaland ahead by a 2-0 score.

4th inning - A towering blast to center by Hammer Bro that even had Spiderman saying wow puts the Coins ahead by a 3-0 score.  Maxwell is pitching a gem, as is Katt Monroe in the other game.  Corneria gets a solo home run from Fox, his 2nd of the night to put the Starfighters ahead 4-0

5th inning - Gotham gets on the board with an RBI double by Joker, but they aren't able to crawl back any further.  Meanwhile, a Peppy RBI double plates 2 and makes it 6-0 Corneria.

6th inning - Ron Weasley gets Hogwarts on the board with an RBI but they have a long way to come back.

7th inning - Draco Malfoy homers to make it a 6-2 game, while Wiggler nets his 2nd RBI of the night to put Sarasaland up 4-1.

8th inning - Harley Quinn singles in a run to make it a 4-2 Coins lead, but Gotham will need a huge 9th inning to win the series tonight.  Meanwhile Falco homers and Corneria is ahead 9-2, this series is headed for game 3.

9th inning - Gotham was able to rally as Superman hit a sacrifice fly to score Catwoman, but with 2 runners on, Baby Daisy was able to record the final out and get the Coins to a game 3 along with Corneria, who didn't even need Tricky's services to close it out.  We will see you...tomorrow night.

VGWBC Semifinals - Game 3s - National TV Gamecast

Corneria 5-5 Hogwarts - Umbrella Stadium, Raccoon City

Sarasaland 0-2 Gotham - Valkyrie Park, Randgriz

1st inning - No runs in either game in the opening frame, although two errors were committed and there was a wild pitch.  Could be some nervousness out on the field given what all is at stake.  A win tonight and you get to play for the chance to be World Champion.

2nd inning - Corneria is out to the early advantage here as Peppy and then Slippy get RBI singles to put the Starfighters up 2-0.  In the other game, Superman and Joker hit back to back home runs off Blooper to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead.

3rd inning - Hogwarts hits back in the 3rd as Jeannie Weasley strikes out the side while her brother Ron hits a 2 run double into the left field corner to bring the Microsoft champions into a tie.  Nothing much happening in the other game at the moment.

4th inning - Hagrid's solo home run puts Hogwarts up 3-2.  Meanwhile we have a story developing at Valkyrie Park, as Gotham's valkyrie, Diana aka Wonder Woman, has yet to allow a hit through 4 innings and has struck out 7.

5th inning - Corneria ties the game against Hogwarts as Krystal hits a 2 out RBI single to left.  Blooper has done well since that one tough inning, but the Coins offense hasn't been able to muster anything to this point.

6th inning - It's nip and tuck in Raccoon City as Corneria and Hogwarts remain tied.  The crowd seems to be about 50/50, and while it might've started that way in Randgriz, it's anything but now...as with every out, the nonpartisan folks among the crowd have been getting louder and louder for Wonder Woman.  This is basically a Gotham home game at this point.  Fuzzer and the Coins are looking quite flustered in the dugout at the moment.

7th inning - Fox McCloud uncorks a 2 run home run to put Corneria ahead by a 5-3 margin.  In Randgriz, the crowd cheers louder and louder as we are 6 outs away from seeing the first perfect game in VGWBC history.

8th inning - Hogwarts comes back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning as Lord Voldemort smashes a pitch way gone to right field.  That game has been dramatic, although the other game has been dramatic too for other reasons.  Catwoman's RBI single in the bottom of the 8th gives Diana some extra insurance as she and Gotham are 3 outs away from history.

9th inning - Both Corneria and Hogwarts had chances to finish it in regulation but couldn't get the key hit to pull ahead.  They head to extra innings.  And in Randgriz, home of the Sony League's Valkyries, it was a venue and a night just too perfect.  In the end it was Fire Bro going up to the plate with 2 outs, and he actually got a big hit on a 1-1 count, but was just out in front and it went foul.  After another foul off, Fire Bro hit a fly ball into center.  Superman is under it, and catches it to finish the game 3-0 to Gotham and Wonder Woman is mobbed on the mound and later carried off the field.  A cruel way to go for Sarasaland, but they were overmatched tonight.

10th inning - And it's over...in the bottom of the 10th inning, Neville Longbottom's RBI single scored Draco Malfoy, and set off a major celebration of wizards and witches at Umbrella Stadium.  Corneria are out, and with it...Nintendo's winning streak at the VGWBC.  It's Hogwarts vs Gotham in the VGWBC Finals.  Who's going to win this titanic confrontation between 2 of world pop culture's giants?  We'll find out this weekend.

Plenty of time to even it up guys.

We're not going to let them beat us so easily. Dig deep guys. We didn't come this far to be one game short of the finals.

And 6 more chances to ruin it too. Get that first hit guys and go from there.

3 more chances to stay alive.

All I can say it we were outmatched tonight. Oh well.

And we will have someone other than an NBL team winning. Wow.

The NBL congratulates Isabelle of Tortimer Island fame for being in the new Smash game!

Among the other games to go to the 3DS and Switch, news of Final Fantasy VII, IX, X, X-II, XII, Crystal Chronicles, and the Pocket version of 15 going to the Switch might change the fact that only I-VI were the only Nintendo FF games for a long time. VIII, XI, XIII and its sequels, and XIV have not been heard of coming to the Switch (I'm okay with the MMORPGS and the two heralded infamous games not coming to the Switch). But, with FF Tactics a part of the Ivalice world XII shares, and even though Tactics Advance 1 and 2 were for Nintendo handhelds, Ivalice characters might not come to the Nintendo world, even though the three games trumps Sony's current 1 non-cross-platform. ... But, thank gosh Kingdom Hearts still remains with Sony now with those port remasters! I played the first two games and watched 358/2 days back to back.

Although obviously replacing the Sony teams with the four games' worlds that have been left behind might be the right idea... Should the lands of Gaia, Spira, and Eos be allowed to come to the world of Nintendo? Even more to think about is VII's eventual remake and its spinoffs and the big lore of XV? Also taking into consideration is that this might also bring two more teams earlier than imagined, two unique Final Fantasy teams, ones based on the classic 6, with the rest focusing on the eras afterwards. Or, they might replace current teams who aren't doing too well... even if the Square teams might rival the numbers of Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario. Cloud's inclusion in Smash Bros. might be a light in the effect three characters had when the two new leagues were created back then.

XLW has had this to say in NSN news reports:

"I'm a big fan of the first six games, sans II, and I was planning on seeing what I was missing out with the rest of the series. ... Except the four still that have not come to the Nintendo world, thank gosh. But, these games were originally Sony-exclusive for a long time. Same with Crash, and perhaps the same with Spyro. ... Who I might consider letting back in like the good old times. Except Snake, unless K-... actually, they can have him if they've been jerks to Kojima. But, even though most of the teams I've allowed are Nintendo exclusive or third-party franchises that have worked with us before, these three franchises have been for the most part with Sony since the early days, disregarding some spinoffs and the time us and Square were buds. Things have changed for them now since this weird resurgence.

For the sake of it, I'll let TM3 have the word on these franchises. Ancient BOW FTW!

As for Undertale, The Messenger, and my gosh, Bloodstained... They released on other consoles, but are likenesses of three classic Nintendo series... They cannot be overlooked, but until Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night comes out, they'll be scheduled to see if they pass the flux known as the holiday season. And with the last Star Wars film coming eventually... and with Disney characters in KHIII... the next postseason might be one of the CRAZIEST. "

XLW then continued to play Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.

To be fair, your team is still one of the best in the NBL. No one can say otherwise.

Well...I did intend to do Gamecast, but this past weekend was very busy...I should have asked XLW, but for all I know he might not have been able to do it either.  2 non-NBL teams made for a series where I couldn’t refer back to the roster lists either, so there’s that.

At any rate, the 2018 Clausura will start this coming weekend.  Friendly matches will take place from Tuesday-Thursday (optional)
