  1. This will be a legitimate list of complaints and appreciation with my viewing of The Last Jedi. I'll start with the negatives: -Leia survives the vacuum of space and stays alive. Would've been grander if she just died. Now there's a huge white elephant in the room. -Luke throwing away his lightsaber and wanting to be left alone. Just gave a huge middle finger for those who watched the last movie. And if he didn't want to be found, who made the map in the last episode? -Those udder things. Ewww... -Those birds. Great, first the Ewoks, now... something for Chewy to get distracted with. -Was it really necessary for Rey to talk with Kylo Ren when his shirt was off? It's revealed Snoke is the one doing that, but... was Snoke trying to make him look sexy?... -Yoda looks ugly as heck, or maybe that's just me. -The code master turned on Finn and Rose. Ladies and gentlemen, we wasted about twenty minutes for time that could have been spent on more time with Rey and Luke or just being in a better plot! -Rey comes from a family of nobodies. Great... the whole anticipation of who she really was... just ruined. There were FAN THEORIES of who she was related to. -Snoke died. Not only that, but he looked a lot more intimidating in the last movie. He's no Palpatine. -Phasma died. I thought she was going to have a bigger part in this film! She's no Bobba Fett. -The point of going to the Rebellion base was completely moot when the battery ram came! A long build-up to a big failure! -No one helped the Resistance in the end. The distress call failed. So, it's a film of... running away? I remember the Rebellion was much better than this! -Tried to be like ESB, but it failed in some regards. What I loved: + The Rebellion is fading in numbers. Could make the impact in the next movie much more thrilling. Though, I thought there was going to be a big surprise attack in the end. + The Empire has the means to track the Rebellion through light speed! ... But, that reminds me of Spaceballs. + R2D2's recording of Leia. Luke is now Obi-Wan in this situation. + Poe Dameron. Unlike Han Solo, who only risked himself to save his future wife and the most luck on his side, Poe Dameron's actions and risks came with heavier consequences. And knowing how well that went for Han Solo, Leia has every right to demote him. Because she lost him, and hates that she might lose more. + For all the hatred I give to the code master storyline, I do like Rose. She portrays the fans. She thinks highly of Finn for saving the world, even though he's modestly trying to do his job. She has an adventure with her idol and even goes riding those animals with him. Haven't we once dreamt of being whirled away into a spacial and fantastical universe? + Luke trying to deconstruct the Force's purpose (because most fans just think it's flashy stuff than really remember what it really is meant to be) and why the Jedi is archaic. And Yoda's message too. The Jedi way has been a failure in the past, and needs to change. Or else... it could make another Anakin! +Rey's inner turmoil. Kylo Ren's inner turmoil. I thought both could have pulled off a wonderful double turn, even if it didn't happen. But, the suspense was real. + Kylo Ren's tragic backstory. Luke almost killed his nephew to save the world, but that meant losing Ben, who meant everything to him. It's much better than Anakin's soppy melodrama in the prequel trilogy. + Kylo Ren and Rey fighting the Elite Troopers. And... + Kylo Ren isn't as easily persuaded to come back to the right side like Darth Vader... AAAAND... + Kylo Ren makes a good point of wanting to let the past go. So far, what was fresh thirty or so decades ago has made these films feel like the Original Trilogy, and it seems like there's nothing new here. They're treading the same ground. And the reason why I'm disappointed Rey didn't turn is because that would've been more SHOCKING. Luke would've had to save the world from monsters of children he accidentally made! And that would've been more dramatic and interesting! That would've made this ESB legendary! Or, my double turn theory for that matter. Still... + The moment the two tried to grab Luke's lightsaber was brilliant. With equal force. AND... + The small ship going through the big ship with pure silence to boot. What other movie in the series does THAT?! There was a poster one one of the theater doors where the movie was playing in. It said it was supposed to happen. I think it's because maybe one of the customers thought it was strange. + Luke distracts the Empire long enough for the Rebellion to escape. Not only that, but he died on his own terms, and made a huge nod to when his father killed Obi-Wan. And there's two moons when he dies, like the two moons he sees in A New Hope when the epic music plays with the sunset! (Thanks other fan for that nod!) If Yoda can come back in spirit form, maybe Luke can too. Heck, maybe Luke can finally reunite with his pals on the other side. I might've hated that it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to be, but moments like these are great. It's my fourth favorite movie of the bunch, and with good reasons. Empire Strikes Back has been one of the boldest movies in all of history with its turns. A New Hope brought endless possibilities of what could be in space, and gave us a world to be a part of. The Force Awakens, although like A New Hope, surprised everyone, because we never expected more after the prequel garbage. There was more hype for that movie than Phantom Menace! And this movie is better than The Jedi Returns is because... of the Ewoks, and a slighter sillier approach that made the prequels infamous.
