  1. Damn this really sucks... F.U. SONY!!! TBH, I thought the Funi app as shutdown back when merged all of its library was with CR. With the website shutting down along with the app I assume Funimation the company is fully being absorbed in to Crunchyroll...? BTW, what's going to happen to Funi content on other streaming services (dub/sub)? Will it all eventually be removed and exclusive to CR? ...On top of all of this, Sony is jacking up the price of CR to $99.99 a year. Can't wait for all the mass CR sub cancellations and increase in pirating of anime. 🙃 I'm really dreading this all digital future that's looming, where you own nothing you paid for and it can all be taken away from you at any moment. *sigh* R.I.P Funi! T_T
  2. Last one's been dead for ages, so here's a fresh thread to talk about anime, manga, and any other general weebery. It seems like most anime discussion online nowadays is all about seasonal stuff, but the quality is usually sparse, and I can never keep up anyway. So talk about your favorites! Your underrated gems! Anything you found recently that gets you hyped up! Or talk about seasonal stuff anyway. Rant and rave, look for recommendations, anything you'd like ✨ As a fun idea to start, how about a 3x3 of your all-time favorites? Here's a link to make one automatically if you need it: https://anime-bingo.aikats.us/ Just uncheck "free space" and change the grid to whatever you like. Here's mine: Beck - Samurai Champloo - Stein's Gate Pokémon Special (Adventures) - Ping Pong the Animation - 3-gatsu no Lion Hourou Musuko - Princess Jellyfish - Welcome to the NHK I recently got around to watching Ping Pong after hearing about it for years, and was absolutely blown away. Normally I don't even watch my favorites more than once a year at best, but I've watched it multiple times in the last few months alone. All I have to do is hear the music and it instantly hypes me up to revisit it. Super bizarre for me, but I had no choice but to put it in the all-time favorites after that. 3-gatsu no Lion is also a relatively recent watch for me, and having only finished S1, I think it might be my #1 of all time. Ranking isn't something I typically think about a lot (the 3x3 is unordered), but it's so intensely relatable and had me choking up or outright crying nearly every episode, even at happier moments, just from the sincerity of all its emotional scenes. Doesn't hurt that it's also beautiful to look at. The color work, the backgrounds, the characters. It's all so good I can't rave about it enough ;u; I also wanna rave about Princess Jellyfish for a minute. Unlike the others, it's been a favorite of mine for a few years at this point, but it's regardless one that I think anybody who even remotely enjoys slice of life stories should check out. It sounds kind of weird and trope-y from online summaries, but it's absolutely anything but that. It's really funny and wholesome, the art is gorgeous, the plot is really cute and intense when it needs to be, and I love all the characters immensely. The creator, Akiko Higashimura, also made an autobiographical manga called Kakukaku Shikajika that was really sweet but emotional as all hell. She's by and far my favorite mangaka nowadays on the strength of those two alone.
  3. I haven't watched the anime since it was on Kids WB, but as someone who has watched the anime from the start, back when the PKMN craze first hit the U.S., this is really sad to hear. T_T Though, this would make since, because come to find out Ash became a PKMN World Champion in the most recent series. I'll never forget that first episode when at first Pikachu was a little shit and hated Ash. Farewell Ash and Pikachu!!! May you always be best buddies! ^_^
  4. Welcome to the new and improved official Summer 2017 Anime/Manga/Light Novel Discussion Thread! Okay, so you can't see what's new about it like I can... But oh well! This iteration of the seasonal discussion threads for anime, manga, and light novels can now make use of querying the APIs for AnimeNewsNetwork and Anilist! This means that I no longer have to manually input in most of the information you see down below! You can surely expect previews to be faster than before going forward, especially as I make more adjustments in future threads. Make way for a summer full of promising shows and a huge helping of fun movies! Remember: You are free to discuss any and all anime, manga, light novel, or other Japanese media related content here, not just limited to what the current season has to offer! New to seasonal anime? New anime airs each season of the year at roughly these time intervals: Winter (January-March) Spring (April-June) Summer (July-September) Fall (October-December) Each new season is typically covered by a multitude of sites that compile the upcoming shows into charts with summaries and information about each show. These charts are an easy way of catching a glimpse at what is probably going to air in the upcoming season. Occasionally, shows on these charts may be delayed to later seasons; for the most part, the seasonal charts are fairly accurate, so if you’re ever confused on what is airing, when it’s airing, or what it is, please check the charts below for any questions you may have! Notable Seasonal Chart Sources: http://anichart.net http://neregate.com/blog/anime-charts/ http://livechart.me Additionally, there are PV (Promotional Video) trailers that air before the start of each season, which actually show footage of the show. There may also be CM (Commercial) footage, but these tend to have only a few seconds of content by comparison. If I am able to find these, I will include them below. Last, but certainly not least, the studio and staff that works on a show can be a very influential factor. Previous works done by the studio will be included as to give you an idea on what they’ve worked on, as will the staff involved. Summer 2017 Anime Information and Preview: Template Explanation: Particular shows that I recommend giving a shot will have their titles highlighted in green. Due to the high quantity of anime being released, while I cover all full-lengthed TV anime, all shorts, movies, and OVAs/ONAs/Specials are covered by personally selected highlights instead of full coverage. Please refer to the sources section at the bottom of this preview for in-depth information on shows not covered here. TV Originals: TV Sequels, Successors, Spin-Offs, and Continuations: Shorts Highlights: Movies Highlights: OVAs, ONAs, and Specials Highlights: Any other information on Shorts, Movies, OVAs, ONAs, or Specials can be found listed in any of the sources used below for this preview. 5. Available on Pokémon TV (Switch/mobile) Episode 3: Episode 2: Episode 1:
  6. The free Pokémon TV app is now available on Switch... While it's cool to see more streaming apps on Switch, where's Netflix? ...And wasn't Disney+ supposed to come when they announced the app? BTW, I feel they should have put the app's name on PKMN TV's Switch icon. It's basically just the mobile app's icon.
  7. Welcome to the official Fall 2017 Anime/Manga/Light Novel Discussion Thread! While it may not feel quite like it because of the remaining heat, autumn is on its way, bringing us all more anime to watch and the last (and traditionally, the most prolific) anime season of 2017! I have made some significant overhauls in the past few weeks under the hood, upgrading my previewing tool to become a fully functional website with improved queries to anime database APIs. I am very happy with the result! Because of my updates behind the scenes, there are a few changes with this preview's formatting. I will no longer cap the amount of staff members covered for the major staff positions - you'll see them all because it's so easy to automate now. I have also decided to simplify categories a bit - most notably, the TV Sequels section will mainly be reserved for clear-cut sequels, while reboots and otherwise will be placed in TV Originals. Lastly, I have also decided to change the format and method of my usual recommendations... Well, pay attention for that in a separate post coming soon! New to seasonal anime? 8. Hey everyone, just wondering if anyone on here had plans to hit up Youmacon in Detroit, MI in a few weeks. I plan on going, which will be my first time attending a convention of any sort. Also considering the option of entering the Melee singles and Sm4sh singles and doubles tourneys being held there as well. Competing in a Smash tourney would also be a first for me, and I am curious how my skills would stack up against other players competing.
  9. TPC is teaming up with Twitch for a two-month PKMN anime marathon... Ok, now this is pretty cool. I'd actually love to go back a rewatch some of the earlier seasons that I haven't seen in forever. I remember TPC streaming all the PKMN movies on Twitch for PKMN's 20th anniversary. I only had a chance to catch the first 3, but it was nice to seem again them after all these years. I still have my copy of PKMN the First Movie & the first 3 eps of season 1 on VHS.
  10. I actually don't have anything to post yet. It's still technically pre-show night, which means while I have gotten my badge and program and been to a panel where a bunch of voice actors acted out a Popeye radio show from the 30's, but I haven't run into any cosplayers or bought anything yet. In the meantime, I'm just going to layout my tentative schedule here because my phone is dead so I can't just use the app:
  11. Welcome to the official Winter 2018 Anime/Manga/Light Novel Discussion Thread! It's time to start the new year off with a brand new anime season. This year's Winter season is perhaps one of the strongest Winter seasons I have ever seen! There's such a wide variety of shows that there's sure to be something catered to your tastes. 12. Okay, so, awhile back I wrote and posted the first chapter of a Yugioh spinoff story simply titled, Bandit Keith. As the title suggests, the story centers around a minor Duel Monsters Season 1 antagonist named "Bandit" Keith Howards, who was last seen breaking free from sort of mind control perpetrated by the Season 2 main antagonist and running away from a burning warehouse, believing he was possessed by some ghost. However, other than appearing as a mirage in Season 4, we never really see Howards after that point. This struck me as odd since Howards, an American, was at that moment in time stranded in a city in Japan, Domino City, without any money or knowledge of Japanese, his story left open to interpretation. I decided to take the liberty of continuing Keith's story upon noticing this narrative predicament, as I saw the rich potential in developing the black sheep of the entire Yugioh canon: a foreigner scumbag who could not catch a break. I mean, this guy had Fate kick the living shit out of him on multiple occasions without anyone batting an eye. He's done some shitty things in his life, sure, but damn; his punishment far outweighed his actions. Keith's life story makes him fall under this rare grey area within the Yugioh universe as he was pitted against both the first series's protagonists and two out of its six major antagonists. He even lost the closest thing he had to friends due to his obsession with enacting revenge against the main antagonist of season 1, said obsession prompting him to manipulate, insult, and ultimately abandon his peers. In short, Bandit Keith's life is the antithesis to all the major themes and tropes presented in Yugioh. He wasted his chance at friendship, he never had some ancient power or spirit on his side, he had selfish yet sympathetic motives that were not tragic enough to be framed as sympathetic, he never had that moment of terror, glory, or drama, he was never really tied to one of the good guys in some direct way, he never got a chance to learn from his mistakes, and most importantly, he never caught a break whether it be morally or amorally. In a world where Egyptian gods actually exist, where people play card games on motorcycles, where one of the wealthiest and most intelligent men in the world happens to be a fucking teenager, where a kid shares his body with an ancient Pharaoh, where dimensions filled with monsters await to teach life lessons or grant extraordinary powers to the main characters, where an entire school dedicates itself to teaching its students how to play a children's card game, where you can LITERALLY LOSE YOUR SOUL IF YOU LOSE IN SAID CHILDREN'S CARD GAME, Bandit Keith Howards was just some average shmuck who's greatest accomplishment was topping in some off-screen tournament, only to have some one-eyed, mind-reading, Sephiroth looking FUCK ruin his reputation for funsies. Sorry I got carried away for a second. Anyway, this story will not only give a character like Keith a second chance at life, but it will also examine the insanity of the Yugioh universe through the lens of the average man. It'll explore the more nuanced aspects of the Yugioh universe, such as the culture of Duel Monsters and why people take the game so seriously even without the ancient Egyptian magic. It'll also attempt to draw parallels from real life that weren't really explored in the canon, like the in-universe game's trade economy or the financially dangerous addiction to opening packs in search of that one rare card that you really really want. My first attempt to write this story proved to be rather poor, as I fucked up on the characterization by literally making Keith the typical 90s antihero. Like, that first chapter wasn't much, but damn, I sacrificed any meaningful or interesting dialogue for the sake of making Keith look mean, but in a cool and badass way and not a realistic or consequential way. I mean, Keith has the potential to become a badass, but not right after hitting rock-bottom. Thus, I decided to burn the entire thing and restart the story from scratch. Also, nothing of substance really happened in that first chapter besides the introduction of Keith's predicament. Instead of writing the story in the style of a novel, I'll attempt to write the story in a sort of quasi-script style. When I say quasi-script I mean a script with large paragraphs that would remind you of a novel but with the formalities of setting up scenes and organizing the novel-like paragraphs into numbered sequences. I'm doing this because: A. I don't actually know how to truly write non-dialogue chunks of a script despite looking up online examples and B. It'll force me to take a break from long-winded descriptions of how characters inwardly "feel" to allow for stuff to actually happen in a more outwardly and physical manner. I will post each "Episode" (Chapter) in chunks separated by a "Commercial Break" so as to not take up too much space per post. I can't promise any frequent flow of content due to my college-bound duties, but I will at least try to finish the first episode within two months. Keep in mind that this story is based on events which happen in the Yugioh anime, because in the manga, Bandit Keith is actually killed during the manga's equivalent to season 1, which kind of ruins the entire thing ya dig? Feedback for this project is deeply appreciated, as I actually one day hope to see my vision become an actual, official thing at some point in my life. Thank you, and have fun reading I guess.
  13. Spent Thursday night at my brother's house since he lives closer to Amtrak. Probably unnecessary, as this has been one of the most uneventful "first days" of any con I've ever been to. More tomorrow. Crash now.

  20. Welcome to the Fall 2016 edition of the seasonal thread for anime, manga, and light novels! This Fall season boasts an impressive showing of 47 new television anime - even when not including the numerous shorts, movies, and specials on the way! Fall seasons are always the largest of the four seasons of the year, but the number of anime just keeps on growing. While this thread says Fall 2016, you are free to discuss anything here as long as it relates to anime, manga, or light novels - not just the new and upcoming stuff from the Fall 2016 season! In addition, I have made some changes to the format because of the sheer amount of entries I have to do for the previews: Shorts, movies, and specials of any kind will now be covered through a number of selected highlights that I pick out for the season. I will cover those selected in the same amount of detail as the main TV anime I cover. Otherwise, please refer to the sources at the end of this post for further information. Lastly, I will now be introducing a sort of "recognition" system where I highlight anime that I feel are the most promising picks or shows that are "must-watches" of the season. These entries will be highlighted in green instead of the usual color. I highly suggest picking those up if nothing else, even if you think they're not for you at first glance. Expand your horizons a bit and you may find something really enjoyable. Fall 2016 Anime Preview: New to seasonal anime? 21. It doesn't have to have been for a game. A couple years ago I tried my hand at doing one, just for fun. It was my first attempt, and though I wouldn't call it amazing or anything(especially in the overall 'narrative'), I was pretty proud at how well I got some of the moments to sync up with the music. I find myself genuinely curious if anyone else here has attempted something like this. Do share, if you have!
  22. Nintendo has posted a job listing for an 'anime series 3D designer'... Link: http://gonintendo.com/stories/267704-nintendo-looking-for-an-anime-series-3d-designer I would assume if there was going to be a new Nintendo anime series, they'd get some anime production company to do it, like with the Star Fox and Kid Icarus shorts. Maybe they're just going to do some shorts themselves? Make that Kid Icarus anime sere happen, NINTENDO!!!! PLZ!!!! >_<
  23. So where do I have to send money to make this a full-length show?? If you know of something like this on the market already, let me know.
  24. So, I clicked on a video on YouTube and noticed this ad (Yes, the video I clicked on was PKMN related)... Has any else gotten PKMN Gen eps as an ad on YouTube?
