  1. Yesterday, Nintendo updated their list of best-selling DS, Wii, 3DS, and Wii U games. And a lot of other stuff, but I don't care about that, this isn't about that. Naturally, what fanbase could look at this information and go "how can I get people fighting?" but the beloved Pokémon fanbase. And so it goes: as of the third quarter of 2016, Pokémon X & Y have officially outsold Pokémon Black & White. In other words, Generation VI is one of only two generations to result in a sales increase -- the other being Generation IV. Particularly notable is the fact that X & Y did this on the Nintendo 3DS (which means it didn't have any help from the DS's gargantuan install base, like the two generations prior to it). It also did most of the legwork prior to Pokémon Go, believe it or not, so this increase is not strictly attributable to that alone (although it likely expedited the process.) On a somewhat sadder note, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have also officially outsold HeartGold and SoulSilver, which continues the curious pattern of each remake selling more than the one before it. Your guess is as good as mine for that. The full list of sales for recent-generation Pokémon games, for those who are too lazy to click the above links, is as follows (in millions): Pokémon Diamond & Pearl (17.64m) Pokémon X & Y (15.64m) Pokémon Black & White (15.62m) Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire (13.18m) Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver (12.72m) Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 (unlisted, but I think it was around 8m) Pokémon Platinum (unlisted, but I think it was around 7m) How do you feel about this? Are you happy that Pokémon is doing well financially, in spite of the onslaught brought on by Yo-kai Watch in the East? Are you upset that Generation V -- which has a very devoted fanbase -- is now the worst-selling generation in the series? Are you surprised that Generation VI performed as well as it did, considering Pokémon's usual downward trend and the smaller install base? How do you think Sun & Moon will perform? Will they ever bother with another 'third version' given Platinum and Unova 2's omission from the top ten charts? Discuss.
