Did anyone pick up the book about Satoru Iwata, which came out a few weeks ago? I recently just picked it up. I'm only a few chapters and I's really good so far!
This book was released in Japan back in 2019 by Earthbound "Mother" creator Shigesato Itoi's company Hobo Nikkan Itoi Shinbun, a.k.a. Hobonichi, and is a collection of assorted reflections from Satoru Iwata, which were published on the Nikkan Itoi Shinbun website, while also drawing from portions of the Iwata Asks features published on Nintendo's website, and features conversations with Shigeru Miyamoto and Shigesato Ito. In this book Iwata talks about the business and game development side of things during his time working at HAL Lavatory and Nintendo, and his overall philosophy on leadership, design, and development.
I really like they way this book is laid out. It almost feels like a journal of Iwata talking about his life and how he went about different situations. Each chapter is about a certain main topic, but has parts divided up into sub-topics, almost like mini chapters. I also really like how each chapter ends with "Words of Wisdom from Satoru Iwata". I'm really looking forward to reading more, as it's been super interesting so far. Though, I know it's gong to eventually hit me right in the feels, since it touches on the time after Iwata's passing. To all Nintendo fans and gamers alike, I highly recommend giving this book a read. Plus, it's just a nice little thing to have to honor Iwata-San, especially as a Nintendo fan.
