  1. 1/28:Mass Effect 2 I return! Despite last year having actually been a pretty good year for my gaming, I wasn't involved here much. But I wanna get back to participating here again. I'm not off to a strong start but I have at least one to add. 1/28: Mass Effect 2 I'm on a Mass Effect kick again, had I contributed last year it would have given me a decent chunk of games. But regardless I'm working on a Soldier/Renegade run that's been very interesting. From the original release to the Legendary edition I've yet to do s renegade run, which is what I'm doing with my soldier playthrough which has been a pretty unique experience.
  2. I went and didn't keep this updated again this year, but did beat a good deal more so gonna dump them here all at once (and updated my original post) 6/29: World of Warcraft: Shadowlands (PC) 7/7: Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (Switch) 8/28: Devil May Cry 5 (PS5) 8/28: Devil May Cry (PS5)* 9/4: Devil May Cry 2 (PS5)* 9/20: Devil May Cry 3 (PS5)* 9/26: Devil May Cry 4 (PS5) 10/10: Dragon's Crown (PS4) 12/2: Pokemon Scarlet (Switch) 12/3: God of War Ragnarok (PS5) *Via PS Classics Collection As opposed to making comments about all the stuff I've beaten since my last update just gonna do one big look back and not go super deep on specific games. World of Warcraft is a game I simply always seem to come back to at some point. Shadowlands was actually the first expansion that I quit before I even finished leveling. But with the announcement of some cross faction stuff finally coming and just the itch to play I finally got pretty into it for the last 6 months of the expansion lifespan. Honestly I enjoyed it even if I do share some of the issues people had with expansion. Everything already being released and just playing casually probably contributed to that though. Even then wouldn't rank it well as expansions go. Dragonflight is pretty good so far though. Sunbreak was a blast and being an expansion makes it so there isn't a ton that needs to be said anyways. Took everything Rise had and made it bigger and better, especially the end game but the NPC allies for hunts was also a fun change. I finally picked up Devil May Cry 5. DMC is one of my favorite series but I hadn't really touched since 4 came out way back in 2008. Even then I put off playing 5 for awhile, but not disapointed that I did since it let me play with the PS5 enhancement and get the "Special Edition." Everything I could have hoped for in a return to the series roots and may be my favorite of the series. As you can see it also prompted a marathon through the older games. Dragon's Crown is basically a yearly tradition at this point, this was the Wizard's year to go through normal/the story. I actually only have Elf left of characters I haven't taken through normal yet so 2023 might be the last year I include it? I hesitate to count the higher difficulties as "beating" it again but maybe once we get there I'll change my mind. After all I like having an excuse to go back to it at least for a bit year after year. I also have been itching to play it again and since I'm not really working on anything else single player till Fire Emblem Engage comes out it might be the first for 2023. I actually bought God of War Ragnarok before Pokemon Scarlet but managed to get through Scarlet story first. Being portable helped as I could keep it at my desk during work and got a decent amount of time in during slow times. While I certainly recognized some of the issues it had, overall I still enjoyed it a lot. God of War Ragnarok ended my games beaten with a triumphant bang. It's pretty easily my Game of the Year for games that actually came out this year, but I think I'd say it's just my overall Game of the Year regardless. Really only Hollow Knight contests it, but I think GoW's story and characters give it an edge. The cast and writing in phenomenal and it was a great follow-up to the 2018 God of War which was already among my favorite games. Sorry for getting this in after the New Year, but I at least wanted to get it posted for posterity sake if nothing else.
  3. Pratt's whole section in the direct was just weird. And I'm not trying to hate on him or anything I have no problem with him as an actor, but it felt like he was either out of it or just phoning it in. The dichotomy between his part and Jack Black's was really noticable. Pretty pleased with the trailer overall though. Kinda following the popular opinion, Black as Bowser is great, the visuals and style are phenomenal and Chris Pratt provides his best Chris Pratt voice. I can understand why they didn't use the actual Mario voice. A 90+ minute movie with that sort of voice would honestly probably get grating. But I do hope as we see more there is a bit more to it.
  4. Funny enough, they commented on that themselves https://youtu.be/vh4QUC4crnI
  5. 4/29: God Eater 3 (Switch) Kind of a big gap, was doing pretty good with getting through games earlier this year then wen over two months without adding one. It is what it is I guess, didn't help that I started about 3 different games that didn't really click so never finished them. Which makes it kind of funny that the game that did click and I finally beat was God Eater 3, but I'll get into that below. As always, spoilers is being used mostly just to save space. I'm not gonna go into specific plot details or anything. Though even if I did I don't think people would really care, but again more on that below. No idea what comes next. Still actually putting a decent amount of time into God Eater 3 as I'm about midway through my second playthrough. I often do a male and female playthrough for these kinds of games. Thinking about picking up Kirby and the Forgotten land, but not really feeling anything for certain. With Xenoblade 3 coming soonish I also have toyed with starting the first two and finally getting into that, but with Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak coming at the end of June I don't know that I'd jump on Xenoblade 3 right away.
  6. Yeah Medeus' GHB is one of my least favorite ones they've done. I still managed to clear it pretty quickly with Camilla Emblem but not as cleanly as I'd like. Last two turns are just having to chip through Medeus himself. At least he doesn't have DC and no calvary archers for once but still tedious battle.
  7. 2/4: Pokemon Legends: Arceus Super late in adding this one, been meaning to hop on and kept forgetting or getting sidetracked. Sadly only one to add for now, kinda in a slump of beating stuff lately, but I am playing something I'm fairly sure I'll beat now so probably not too long to get another entry in. As for thoughts for PLA, in spoilers below as always to save on space (and some actual spoilers this time). My lack of games beaten lately isn't exactly a lack of trying, a few games I started just didn't really "click" and I didn't want to force myself to play them just to add to my numbers. I also got back into Monster Hunter Rise pretty heavily after the recent Sunbreak showcase. Recently I picked up God Eater 3, it was and I believe still is as of this writing on sale on the eShop for a huge discount (I wanna say like 85%). I've heard it's sort of Monster Hunterish so gave it a shot. Enjoying it pretty well so far, so I expect it to be the next game added to my games beaten list.
  8. I love it, already some great themes here but let me throw in the first few that came to my mind. I'm sure there's a bunch more I could come up with but limiting to three is a good call. This is probably cheating a bit because "Proof of a Hero" is really just the Monster Hunter theme. However, it's the use of this theme in the Fatalis fight that made me love it so much and it was the immediate thing that came to my mind. The moment when Fatalis' overwhelming, oppressive theme fades out and is replaced with this heroic, optimistic fanfare is one of my absolute favorite moments in gaming ever. It was such an fantastic way to basically cap off this huge Monster Hunter experience. I rank Monster Hunter World: Iceborne as my third favorite game of all time, Fatalis was my favorite fight, and this was the best moment in that fight, well other than getting the actually kill. It's kinda cheesy but I actually love the top comment on this video "When this plays, Fatalis is no longer the boss. It's you and this is Fatalis hearing your theme." Recency bias playing a little bit of a role here, since I just played Hollow Knight earlier this year, but even so this tune is awesome. Nightmare King Grimm was a tough fight and I definitely had some frustrating runs/deaths, but I genuinely think this theme actually played a part in helping me stay motivated to keep trying. It was like "oh no I died, guess I get to listen to this awesome theme again." It helps that even with it's difficulty, Nightmare King Grimm ended up being my favorite fight in the game, of what I played at least, didn't do any of the Godhome stuff. Kind of opposite of the Hollow Knight one. This is pretty nostalgic, the video itself is even 14 years old. I loved how it included parts of the main DMC 3 theme but in a more orchestrated way more fitting for the final fight.
  9. Pretty great group of winners. I threw a couple of votes towards Tiki myself and glad Chrom got his deserved first place win. I wasn't super invested this year but even so this is probably one of my favorite overall batches. I'll likely pull for 3 of the 4. Excited to see what they give everyone. Funny that Chrom also got an alt announced the same day he got his CYL too.
  10. 1/25: Hades 1/29: Ori and the Blind Forest Two more down before even the end of January so off to a pretty solid start this year. Two more Indies as well! Last year was my "year of Zelda' so maybe this year can be a "year of indies." But I did just buy Pokemon Legends so that will probably be next, and I also finally have a PS5 so lots of big stuff I want to play on that too, so probably not. Both really fun games, and as always further thoughts in spoilers to keep the post from being too long. And that's all for now. As I mentioned I picked up Pokemon Legends, so that is probably going to be the next big game I go through. I'm also a bit of a way into another Dragon's Crown character play-through so that might be added soon. I know I add that game basically every year but it's more or less a tradition at this point. I do only have two classes left though: Wizard and Elf and I don't know that I'd count the Harder difficulties as beating it each time as they feel more like a continuation of the main game. So maybe this will be the last year for that.
  11. 1/12: Hollow Knight (PS4) Total: 1 First game of the year down. At this point, I'm just going to show my total completed. I don't really see the need to specify console/handheld/platform, especially since the Switch muddies that distinction anyways. I'll still mark what system a game was beaten on, but I'm just going to include one number for total. I'll of course edit my original post each time still. As always I'll keep my thoughts on the specific game in spoilers to avoid walls of text. Up Next: I managed to score a PS5 recently! The biggest game I really want to try on that is Returnal. While waiting for the shipment there is a bit I wouldn't mind trying in Hollow Knight, especially since I liked it so much. I haven't done anything in the Grimm Troupe other than upgrade the fragile strength charm. So I might indulge that a bit before I get my PS5, but I also know some of the really high end DLC for Hollow Knight may exceed where I find enjoyment of the game, and I've been pretty damn happy with what I've done. (I'm sitting at 99% completion only missing a single mask and soul vessel fragment).
  12. Igneous42 2022 Games Beaten 1/12: Hollow Knight (PS4) 1/25: Hades (Switch) 1/29: Ori and the Blind Forest (Switch) 2/4: Pokemon Legends: Arceus (Switch) 4/29: God Eater 3 (Switch) 6/29: World of Warcraft: Shadowlands (PC) 7/7: Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (Switch) 8/28: Devil May Cry 5 (PS5) 8/28: Devil May Cry (PS5)* 9/4: Devil May Cry 2 (PS5)* 9/20: Devil May Cry 3 (PS5)* 9/26: Devil May Cry 4 (PS5) 10/10: Dragon's Crown (PS4) 12/2: Pokemon Scarlet (Switch) 12/3: God of War Ragnarok (PS5) *Via PS Classics Collection T: 15
  13. 12/5: Dead Cells (Switch) 12/14: The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes (3DS) 12/27: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (GCN) 12/27: The Legend of Zelda (Switch Online) Likely my final update for the year, edited my first post (on page 5 since I put off making an initial post) to include the full list. Unless I pick up some game and just enjoy it enough to plow through it in a couple days, but I don't really see that happening as there isn't anything I'm itching to start. Thoughts in spoilers below as always. Overall I'd say I had a pretty great year for gaming. Kinda blew my previous years out of the water as far as games beaten. A mix of not playing any MMOs currently which used to eat up a lot of my time, Monster Hunter Rise didn't monopolize my time as much as World did and my goal of beating all the Zelda games padding the list considerably. That said having a sort of "goal" for the year was kind of fun and I wouldn't mind doing something like that again, but don't have anything off the top of my head.
  14. Last post I said I was going to update more frequently then proceeded to procrastinate again. So another handful this time but not the mass update from last time. New games since last updated are bold. Igneous42 2021 Games Beaten 2/14: Bowser's Fury (Switch) 2/26: Sonic Forces (PS4) 3/23: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U) 4/10: Monster Hunter Rise (Switch) 5/28: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) 6/1: Mass Effect (PS4) 6/4: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) 6/14: Mass Effect 2 (PS4) 6/17: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS) 6/18: There is No Game: Wrong Dimension (Switch) 6/25: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (3DS VC) 7/4: Mass Effect 3 (PS4) 7/8: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Switch Online) 7/15: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS) 7/21: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (3DS VC) 7/29: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD (Switch) 8/3: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (3DS VC) 8/4: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition (3DS) 8/21: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Wii U) 8/27: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (NDS) 9/18: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U) 9/25: Dragon's Crown Pro (PS4) 9/29: The Legend of Zelda: The Adventure of Link (Switch Online) 10/6: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (NDS) 10/10: Metroid Dread (Switch) 11/25: Shantae and the Seven Sirens (Switch) Console: 17 Handheld: 9 Total: 26 Comments in Spoiler Box to refrain from a giant post. But no actual game spoilers here.
  15. That or the pulse scan should have revealed large portions as once, making it at least a bit easier for those who want to fill the entire room.
  16. Hey there folks, I'm still alive! I've been meaning to drop by and contribute to this thread but kept getting sidetracked or forgetting. I know in the past I've mentioned that I'm typically a big MMO guy, but I haven't been into any for a good while now. As a result I've been on my PC much less, but I feel bad that I haven't been posting. Ironically not playing MMO's has actually made this a pretty damn good year for my games beaten, I just have yet to stop by and add everything in. So apologies for dumping a bunch in at once and coming late to the party, but I still wanted to contribute. Especially because it's been a lot better year for beating games than probably my last several years. Luckily I've still been keeping track of them, so without further ado, my games beaten so far in 2021. Igneous42 2021 Games Beaten 2/14: Bowser's Fury (Switch) 2/26: Sonic Forces (PS4) 3/23: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U) 4/10: Monster Hunter Rise (Switch) 5/28: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) 6/1: Mass Effect (PS4) 6/4: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) 6/14: Mass Effect 2 (PS4) 6/17: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS) 6/18: There is No Game: Wrong Dimension (Switch) 6/25: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (3DS VC) 7/4: Mass Effect 3 (PS4) 7/8: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Switch Online) 7/15: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS) 7/21: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (3DS VC) 7/29: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD (Switch) 8/3: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (3DS VC) 8/4: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition (3DS) 8/21: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Wii U) 8/27: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (NDS) 9/18: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U) 9/25: Dragon's Crown Pro (PS4) 9/29: The Legend of Zelda: The Adventure of Link (Switch Online) 10/6: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (NDS) 10/10: Metroid Dread (Switch) 11/25: Shantae and the Seven Sirens (Switch) 12/05: Dead Cells (Switch) 12/14: The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes (3DS) 12/27: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (GCN) 12/27: The Legend of Zelda (Switch Online) Total: 30 Total: 19 And that's where I'm at. To spare a post too long I'll refrain from making comments on each game like I normally like to. Instead I'll just share some general thoughts, thought that will still probably end up long-winded so going to go ahead and put in spoilers.
  17. The easy Sephiroth challenge is indeed pretty easy. The direct made it sound like they all would be punishing and very hard would just be ridiculous or something. Managed very hard too but I kind of cheesed it by landing a meteor kick with ZSS. He seems fun, and easily my favorite this pack just because I'm a FFVII fan. Some of his end lag is awful though so dunno how he will do in tournaments. His side B to me is his coolest thing. A lot of ways you can mess with people using that
  18. I actually recall a lot of people complaining about it tbh. Not nearly as many as resplendent Lucina but people definitely criticized it. Lucina is way more popular though and generally a more serious character, the style really doesn't fit her at all. As others have said it probably wouldn't be controversial if it was an actual alt, but as a Resplendent people expect it to match the normal look for the character just in a cool new outfit. Though for my part I kind of just hate his style in general, granted I basically never like chibi or childlike characters, so I was pretty disappointed myself. Especially because conceptually it's not bad, it's a shame that there has been a lot of fan art of the outfit that just puts his official art to shame. On a more positive topic, I'm loving pawns of Loki. Probably one of the best game modes they've added. Curious to see how it's gonna go when ranged are the bonus. There are a lot of tanky melee units who have DC and easy ways to heal. Might be rougher for ranged. Edit: whelp nevermind, round 3 is fighting player units now. This just went from one of the best new modes they've added to the same pure cancer the PvP modes always have. Hope IS gets a lot of negative feedback on round two because this had so much potential.
  19. They've been staggering the release of the past special heroes lately. Calendar says 11/1 for the lands bounty which is the one with Myrrh
  20. Oem hoping it's setting the way for custom unit and is just using sword because of plot reasons. People have pointed out it's Alfonse's sword. I'm actually pretty interested in this banner. Shamir was one of my faves in Three Houses. I also want Flayn but mostly because I want to give that assistant skill to my Brave Camilla. Though as a sucker for seasonals I still kind of want to skip for now since these will all be in the permanent pool. Don't have a huge savings even though I skipped on Halloween, and looks like we're getting a surprise new seasonal at Halloween.
  21. Welcome to the "my favorite girl has 7 alts club"
  22. Yeah, I wasn't saying it was the first portable one, but having started with World it will be the first portable entry I've played. I thought about picking up Generations Ultimate, but I'm still having fun with World. I think it'd be hard to go back to the older ones being used to all the QoL stuff introduced in World.
  23. As someone beith over 700 hours in MH world I'm Super excited for MH Rise. Did not wake up this morning expecting that! The mobility looks really interesting and the dog companion seems fun. Buy mostly just more Monster Hunter! And being able to take it wherever I go will be awesome!
  24. In not really invested in Jugdral at all but still spent a few orbs to get Lachesis for her Dagger. My +10 Halloween Kagero. It's perfect for her and I've already started playing around with it and it seems pretty great for her. I was actually considering trying for a second for Spring Kagero because she really could use some sort of damage mitigation, but I'm afraid with her spd it'd be less consistent.
  25. Yeah, I don't really see how it's Nintendo's responsibility to police this kind of stuff. Hell, disconnected from all this stuff Nintendo has often been criticized for being "too big brother" with their software. If anything I think it justifies them staying out. Unless I'm behind on Evo news (assuming that is the event you meant) I'm guessing it's a mix of having to cancel the physical event in the first place and now all this coming out too. I'm sure dealing with the transition to a online format was already a headache, now the "main organizer is out of the picture for very good reasons, but still means missing someone who was normally a big part of the event. Not saying it doesn't suck for those who signed up, but I don't think it's meant to punish anyone. It's likely just a logistical nightmare. I can see wanting to just say let's skip so we can start getting things figured out for next year right now.
