    The most recent card to feature Kadabra was this Skyridge card from 2003. Following that, there was an Abra card with an attack that allowed it to evolve straight into Alakazam, and a whole bunch of Alakazam cards with some sort of gimmick that allowed them to be played as Basic Pokemon... or something. I haven’t kept up with the TCG since before the DS came out.

    I'm pretty sure that they're decision to cut support here isn't because the original has more content than what SMM2 has.  That's what I'm not getting with the example being used here.  Hypothetically, if we got Ultimate on Wii U and and Smash 4 on Switch and Nintendo decided to cut server support for Ultimate the reason is not going to be because Ultimate has more content.

    For me:

    Elementary = NES/ SNES
    Junior High = N64
    Senior High = Gamecube
    College = Wii/Wii U
    Post Grad = Switch

    My college years and onward I was working but the early days of the Wii I was still a scrub at my job so my responsibilities were minimal.  College wasn't too bad then either so I had a ton of time to game.  It was around the later years of the Wii's life and on into Wii U that my gaming time dwindled as accelerated and promoted into new positions where I worked among other things.  My current job after Toys R Us, while great especially with pay and benefits, doesn't leave me much time to game as much as I'd like.  It's one of those jobs where core hours are 8-5 but if you're in a leadership role your working hours are basically core hours plus additional time as needed and this job uses the "as needed" part extensively.  Past month and a half I've put in 60+ hour weeks and being salaried I don't qualify for overtime. So my gaming time has been almost non existent outside of Mario Kart night and the few times I've fired up my switch to get some more time with Xenoblade Chronicles and now Age of Calamity.  Once I hit two years with my new gig I may start job hunting elsewhere as the work life balance is not that great and putting in an additional 20-30 hours per week basically for free is starting to wear out its welcome.

    Nintendo of America designers/marketers didn't like the look of the Japanese original, simple as that. Lance Barr, designer at NoA, thought it had a "bag of bread" look. They also wanted to make sure the console would look good with attachments/additions, and thought the blockier design worked better for that.

    I admit I like the NA version better as well, though at least part of that is probably just familiarity. The SNES feels like the definitive video game console of my childhood; it's the first one that I actually played myself extensively instead of just watching my older siblings play, and many of its games remain some of my absolute favorites of all time. We had a good sized library of games and this was also during the height of renting games from Blockbuster for us so we also played a lot of stuff that we never ended up owning.

    The SNES was definitely the console that cemented me as a gamer for life.  My family had the NES and my favorite game of all time SMB3 created some great memories, but I think the SNES was where it really hit home.  Before we ever got it my cousins had it for Christmas with games like Super Mario World, Final Fight, Madden and ActRaiser.  When we finally got it we had all of those games (sans Actraiser) but then Sim City and F-Zero were added to the mix.  So many hours spent in games like Super Mario World and my older brother and dad with Madden.  Frustrating times with Final Fight since as a kid I could never get past the wrestling boss that used a katana (forgot his name).  Sim City I didn't understand as I would just build stuff until I ran out of money or got so bored I ravaged my cities with disasters.  F-Zero... I honestly think that if not for my dad I may not be as big a fan of F-Zero as I am now.  He played that game a ton back in the day and much like SMB3 for the NES, F-Zero became our little "bonding game" for the SNES.

    But that was launch window stuff.  Throughout the years as my younger bro Krazy grew older and capable of playing with the controller we started to bond over a ton of different games like Mario World, the DKC games, Kirby Superstar, Super Mario RPG... so many games creating so many memories.  There's a lot about that era of gaming that just felt, for lack of a better word, pure and exciting. I still remember the hype among my classmates in 5th grade when Mortal Kombat 3 came around.  I remember getting Super Street Fighter II for my birthday and just having tournaments with my dad, brothers and cousin.

    Anyway, I don't want to gush on and on walking down memory lane.  The SNES just holds a very strong place in my own personal history growing up and taking this nostalgia trip has been a great callback to those times.

    BTW, am I the only one that preferred the NA SNES design? I'm a bit biased as my favorite color is purple but still XD

    Kezay got a reaction from purple_beard in FZero turned 30 11/21!
    I was just talking about this in your SNES anniversary thread but this game was a bonding moment for me and my dad when we first got the SNES.  I owe much of my interest in that franchise to those days we played the original so many years ago.  But that game was the beginning and mostly the end of my dads affiliation with the series.  While my dad did play F-Zero X a bit it was never at the same depth as when he played the original.  With the original he put tons of hours into each machine before finally settling on Fire Stingray as his go to selection.  In X, he mostly only played with Fire Stingray not really exploring the many other vehicles and even then never put as much time dedication into it.  For him, GX jumped the shark as he was never able to grasp the more extreme tracks that involved loops, corkscrews, multi step tracks, etc.

    Even so, this is a fantastic series and I hope Nintendo gets back to it at some point.  Even if they don't hit the presentation of GX (with Amusement Vision gone and all) just creating a solid game first and foremost would be more than enough at this point.

    The F-Zero Series Is Now 30 Years Old - Nintendo Life

    Wow.

    I kind of remember that SNES game like it was yesterday.  If I recall correctly my brother and I were looking for a new game and got it at Toys R Us.  I think the Mode 7 graphics and the futuristic racing caught our eye.  We both loved the game.  We both found it incredibly fast and and incredibly hard, but in that way that would make you keep trying.  Also, the music was incredible.  Once I got a boombox with an auxiliary input we'd put the sound to the boombox instead of the tv and upped the bass to make the crashes more realistic LOL.  I think we both got access to the final cup after a lot of practice.  I know the Fire Fields, Death Winds, and White Lands were our more challenging courses.  I think that final Red Canyon was the bane of our existence because of the mines.  FWIW, I was a Samurai Goro driver and my brother was more of a Dr. Stewart or Captain Falcon racer.  Ohh the fighting the rails and striving to keep the health up.  Also, the really basic looking but increasingly annoying AI cars after the first four.

    I believe we got F Zero X from Electronics Boutique/aka Gamestop.  The first 3D adaption to the game was great but soooo hard.  I remember having to use a cheat code to get some decent vehicles and racers.  I loved the custom color options.  With the help of that cheat code I enjoyed screwing around with that random Joker Cup a lot.  I can't recall how far I got with normal progression.  I really loved the music.  I also liked it went multiplayer.  I think the spin attack option that was added made for some interesting strategy.

    I loved me some GX on GC.  Loved the graphics and the track designs.   I thought the game really stood out in Progressive Scan 16:9 mode too.  I probably got about halfway through that game.  I was very disappointed the console series stopped at this game as I felt it was a hard core game that appealed to gamers wanting something faster and harder than Mario Kart for their racing.

    I have 2 (or 3?) of the GBA games they released.  I got pretty darn far on the 1st one.  I can't recall how far I got in the later ones.  I really liked how they kept the SNES vibe to them and the music and track designs were always rock solid.

    ****

    I really think this is a series Nintendo ought to bring back.  I've bought a few of the FZ-like clones and they were ok, but they aren't FZ.

    I think for the series to come back anew they ought to do 2 main things: have a easiest cup and a harder cup, and then go with online racing.  I am stickler for FZ continuing to have its hard difficulty but I think there needs to be a easy way to experience all the cups to practice for when the AI gets harder, the cars get faster, and courses get more complicated.

    Man, what nostalgia reading that article.

    My brother and I got ours from Brendle's via layaway via our selling of concessions at ECU football games.  It was a great day that day to walk in and payout the final balance and take it home.  So many fond gaming memories came with that system and games.

    Off the top of my head we had Super Mario World 1 and 2, Super Mario All Stars, Super Mario Kart, Mario Paint, A Link to the Past, Tetris Dr. Mario, Yoshi's Cookie, Zoop, Final Fantasy __, Donkey Kong Countries, F Zero, Super Metroid, .... and I think I am missing about 10 more somewhere down the line....

    Damn, Super Mario RPG, *not* sure we owned or borrowed SimCity, ActRaiser was epic, Secret of Mana was epic, not sure if we owned or borrowed Tetris Attack, ...

    The DC MAGA March is confusing because what exactly are they marching for?  To fight against a rigged election that they can't explain how it's rigged?  It's hilarious seeing some of the people interviewed from that event and hearing the things they say is legitimately crazy.  I know, that sounds redundant considering what we've seen the last several year but even in my personal experience when I ask questions, seeking to understand the logic from people I know that are devout Trumpers and hearing them come with a nothing answer yet believe in the rhetoric anyway is madness.

    After a good night's sleep it was great to wake up knowing that despite the challenges ahead that there will be more competent heads leading the country after January.  And I was thinking, a few weeks back my girlfriend and I visited the Washington Oaks Garden Park in Palm Coast and man did they have a ton of Trump supporters there.  Very wealthy area, tons of amazing and unique looking mansions and seaside homes ruined with giant Trump/Pence banners displayed across them.  Definitely want to visit that park again, but I'll be honest that part of that is being able to weather the 15 mile drive down the stretch of mansions without those eyesore banners on the way to the park.
