Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle leaked, key art + details
Kezay replied to Chrom's topic in General Nintendo
To be fair, these seem like docs/infographs for internal use. Something like that might have ended up coming in conversation during an interview maybe but I wouldn't count on most of these details being displayed as public materials. -
Will come in handy with the upcoming TestPunch trial. But overall it's a nice look at the different control schemes and how they work. Single Joy Con play doesn't seem nearly as confusing as I initially thought it might be.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle leaked, key art + details
Kezay replied to Chrom's topic in General Nintendo
Until you mentioned the Wii U game, Rabbids Land is what it was, my thought on the last Rabbids game was Rabbids Go Home which was one of the last released on Wii. Quick check on wikipedia shows Ubisoft has been consistent with the series on console and mobile devices even after that though. Definitely not nearly as much a thing as they were at the height of the Wii days but they still seem to be a thing, more or less. -
This is a pretty cool if not fairly trippy fan video that highlights the take anywhere nature of Nintendo Switch. If nothing else, I appreciated all the DKC2 love throughout but the video is pretty cool in its entirety.

PR - Nintendo Announces 2017 Summer of Play Tour
Kezay replied to Eliwood8's topic in General Nintendo
Were the play areas always that big and elaborate in past tours? The mock up image looks pretty neat with each play area for the Switch games having corresponding themes. But alas, as always North Florida is neglected.- 5 replies

Saw it with a friend this past Friday and liked it. To build up to everything and the post Prometheus twist was surprising and Fassbender was pretty fantastic.

Congratulations!! I unfortunately didn't decorate my own cap. Was quite jelly of some of the ones I saw at my own graduation including one girl that did a classic Mario themed one for hers.

Owlboy, YIIK and other games heading to Nintendo Switch!
Kezay replied to Juanblue85's topic in General Nintendo
I had never heard of Owlboy so I looked up some stuff on it and it looks pretty incredible. YIIK heading over is good to hear, been keeping my eye on it since it was announced for Wii U. -
Even that would make for a better reason since I'm assuming it's only Bungie handling all version of the game right now. It would be understandable if they didn't have the resources to dedicate to an additional version or more specifically a Switch iteration of the franchise. I brought up something about Call of Duty in a response earlier today about how Activision eventually moved to put Modern Warfare on Wii. Among other things it probably helped that they had Treyarch available to create an iteration of that game for Wii which is assistance they might not have available to make a Switch game in the Destiny franchise. This barring that some of their smaller contracted studios like Beenox, Toys For Bob or n-Space aren't already tied up with anything.

This I know, I actually mentioned that earlier in the thread: The point I'm getting at is the reliance on the idea that because you can take it away from home and may not be in an area with an internet connection shouldn't be such a big factor in why the series couldn't be on Switch since it can be taken on the go. If the expectation is for players to be where a consistent internet connection is available such as at their home then players could very well do that and just play the game where they have internet access. (which also doesn't necessarily have to be at home, just leading with the assumption considering where their home console would be) Just make it clear that internet access is required or, if need be, have the game operate while Switch is in docked mode. There's no expectation for them to change the game to suit the Switch like having an offline mode or anything like that. Operating just off of the point Bungie exec decided to bring up about the portable nature of Switch let's just assume that the game could be on the platform but this is the sticking point that keeps it from becoming a reality. It's an excuse that comes off a bit flat because there's no reason why players couldn't just simply then play the game when a reliable internet connection is available. That's kind of the case for any game if people want to play online they're expected to understand that they have to be able to be where there's a reliable connection for it to work. This is an aside to whether or not they could get a Destiny title up and running on Switch. I get where you and Youngster Joey are coming from with whether or not they could get the game running on the system to begin with but that didn't even seem to be the main reason cited as to why the game couldn't come to Switch. It would be a lot easier take a comment like that face value where the game simply isn't technically possible to get running on the platform full stop rather that one where the assumption is that players might not be at home or where there is a stable internet connection because it's not hard thing to expect players to know that if they want to play this online game then they would need to be in the presence of a reliable internet connection This could be true for any online capable game or any game in general that might be multiplatform. That doesn't mean that a community for the game can't arise on Switch. This is kind of similar to some comments during the Wii era about more Call of Duty games being on the system when Modern Warfare skipped out on it the first time around. Yet Activision eventually made Modern Warfare for Wii because of the online community that they saw grow with World at War.

A version of the game exists that can only operate when it's online as mentioned earlier in the thread. But even beyond that assuming Switch is the same type of game as preceding non 3DS iterations of the title you would still lose access to the online component. Assuming Bungie is worried players walk away from a wireless connection that would disrupt their game or simply can't play it while on the go altogether, Switch is a home console that can be played on the go. So then, how does that affect players who would be at home tethered to an internet connection? These are all issues DQX would be facing as well.
-
DQXs offline mode consists primarily of the tutorial and limited aspects of the main game proper. For instance, expansions to the game have been for the online component and not for the offline mode. I'm fairly certain the 3DS version by the way it works doesn't have access to even that. Even in that experience you're bounded by what you can do that doesn't exist in the online portion. It's a side attraction at best. You're not getting a carbon copy of the game in that mode which is why nearly everything about it is primarily accessed during online play.
-
This is part of the reason why I brought up DQX, though. If that's the case then what is S-E seeing in their persistent online MMO to operate without significant issue that Bungie isn't? Considering the circumstances on that note are similar. Now, granted S-E may have more insight than Bungie does in terms of how viable such a setup may be for the platform so there's some leading advantage there but at the end of the day they've already committed to it despite in all likelihood having to deal with the same concerns expressed by the Bungie rep, here.

This is kinda going a bit further than the scope of what is being discussed but this has always been a weird balancing act. It was nice to see during the Wii era certain publishes going out if their way to leave their mark and reap successes by establishing an environment that t they're titles can thrive in, but that's also the generation where you got a lot of BS responses and actions from publishers that either torpedoed their own momentum or sabotaged their expectations of the market.
-
If that were the answer I wouldn't have made this thread, so yeah. If you noticed my issue isn't with the end result because even the one by which I've taken issue with is still their reasoning for no Switch version. If there's nothing to say on the matter then just be straight up with it as opposed to pulling a Crystal Dynamics/EA/Infinity Ward/Harmonix/etc. and pulling out reasons that are frankly questionable hence why I'm questioning this.

Fresh info on Dragonball Xenoverse 2 Switch, Updated 7/10
Kezay replied to Juanblue85's topic in General Nintendo
Dragon Quest is Square Enix, this game is by Bandai Namco. You're not gonna see any confirmation of a DQ from them. -
A fair point which makes me wonder why they didn't simply go with that response. Then again the way IGN pitched the question to them was talking about the Destiny franchise in general which I'm assuming is why he answered it the way he did which is a bit flaky compared to something that would essentially just say a Switch version is a nonstarter because it technically just can't run the game. Granted, provided they didn't do so with some snark as EA execs tended to do last generation or like when Capcom said Wii wouldn't even be able to run RE5's title screen. *shrug*

I only bring DQX as an example because it's the only game I can think of that has been on Nintendo platforms that primarily operates as an online only title. Only other example I can think of is maybe Lost Reavers. I suppose the point I'm getting at is the general idea that a persistent online title for Switch should be counted out simply because the hardware can also be utilized as a portable which may or may not have access to an internet connection depending on the situation. However, if that is the case then people would likely be expected to then play the game in an environment where a persistent online connection is available like any other platform that might require that stipulation. The fact it can be carried around shouldn't take away from that when the primary function required is still available and not all that farfetched to keep in consideration. That's particularly why I also brought up the 3DS version of DQX as well since it's probably the closest example to facing such an issue being a portable platform with an online persistent title yet has additional hurdles to overcome in addition to that, yet once again that's something that didn't keep it from arriving on the platform. I've no doubt other factors could be at play. I don't deny that maybe there's a possibility the userbase wouldn't be there, or the platform couldn't run the vanilla version of the game or anything of that nature. But going off the comment noted in IGN's coverage none of that is really addressed as he specifically talks about the portable nature of the platform as if it's THE sticking point for why the series in some way coming is an unlikely expectation. It's certainly easy to speculate other reasons as to why which may or may not be valid at the end of the day, but if this is the reasoning they decide to go with, to publicly put out there why the series wouldn't make the transition to Switch in any shape or form then i think it's better off that they simply left it at "there's no announcement at this time" or something similar rather than an explanation that invites questioning of that rationale. Because by all rights, there is no technical reason why a persistent online game by that merit alone isn't a viable consideration for Switch.

Fresh info on Dragonball Xenoverse 2 Switch, Updated 7/10
Kezay replied to Juanblue85's topic in General Nintendo
You're in luck! Gematsu - Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 for Switch launches this fall in the west -
Square Enix doesn't seem to have a problem with this considering Dragon Quest X. Heck, they even put the game on the 3DS and that basically operated by streaming the game to the system via a cloud based application. Certainly, Switch has the portability aspect to it and many online games on the system now and in the future will undoubtedly have online and offline modes but there is very little keeping an online persistent game from having a presence on the system.
-
Honestly, I can side with you on this and it's not as if I had any expectation that Destiny would even hit Switch. My concern mostly has to do with the response to the question as to whether or not it could happen. The actual headline of the IGN article would have been more than enough to answer that question. No plans at this time; clean, neat, leave it at that. But the other stuff just sort of invites questions that challenge the assertion that a real factor of it not coming to the platform is because the Switch can also be used as a portable or that it's an online persistent game. The one thing that reminds me closest of this (although more ridiculous) is Crystal Dynamics stating that the Tomb Raider reboot wasn't being considered for Wii U because they feel they would have to accommodate the Gamepad's unique features into the game which is something they wouldn't want to do because they would prefer to have the experience the same across all platforms.

IGN - No Plans for Destiny 2 on Nintendo Switch My reaction: Uh, bruh, what? This is that madness that kinda gets under my skin when it comes to some third parties and their "excuses" for why certain games don't end up on Nintendo platforms. Test games, control schemes/controller layouts and sometimes just poor decisions on the games they do decide to bring over just have that effect of being en empty effort most of the time and now we have an explanation like that posted above. Like, I understand there may be other underlying reasons why this may be the case and if so then either spell it out directly or just say what I bolded from the quote above which has the convenience of not saying more than what is necessary while also leaving a simple barebones response that doesn't imply more than what has been laid out. Yeah, you'll still have some fans moaning about this and that or whatever but it comes off a lot better than statements or explanations that don't really seem to make a whole lot of sense. Yes, Switch has a portable function to it... but what does that have to do with anything? There have been and will be other online games on the platform that this scenario will exist for as well and yet those games will still be a thing. If it's strictly on the nature of it being online only it's not as if such games are new to Nintendo platforms either and it's not as if Switch can't handle games designed with a persistent online orientation.

New Splatoon 2 JCs and Pro Controller colors announced!
Kezay replied to purple_beard's topic in General Nintendo
I know what I did and I accept my punishment! I saw that on GoNintendo earlier. Didn't realize the Splatoon fandom was that eccentric that something like just the bundle box could be sold. And once upon a time this was the domain of ebay trolls selling people the boxes to hot selling systems rather than the systems themselves.
