  1. Y'all!

I've been playing this game since after work and it's pretty awesome.  That's not the best part.  I totally had all intentions of just getting the amiibo and the standard edition and being good with it.  After all, I missed out on the preorder window for the collector's edition and surely none would be left for just walk-in buys.

    I was wrong.

Walked up in Target and requested the game and the clerk asked if I wanted the Collector's Edition or the standard?  Me, being a bit shocked, asked what was in the Collector's Edition.  I already knew what was in there, I just needed the extra time to process the good fortune I stumbled onto.  All that said, I got the Collector's Edition!! ^ _ ^

So that who that light was, huh? I'm just like @Kezay, haven't played any of the previous Xeno series games. As for the references on the radio, I forgot some of that took place in the Xenoblade series tho, I have to admit it felt familiar, especially the Xenoblade X ones.

What is Monolith soft up to trying to conveniently connect all these name, concept and places under the "Xeno" banner. Now they up and done it.

This is far from over, huh?

Like Xenoblade will continue of course, just a new tale but adding in all this other lore from other Xeno series just muddles things for me. More so without any knowledge of Xenogears or Xenosaga. Thanks a lot Monolith Soft.

    Spoiler

This is all assuming that there is truly some intent to connect all the games along the same thread.  In my very surface level research apparently Xenosaga was meant to be a six part series, originally.  It only got 3 games, it almost makes me wonder if Xenoblade was in some way meant to round that out or still being maintained as its own thing and maybe there are still plans to grow Xenosaga one day.  I'm talking about of pure ignorance of the other Xeno games so I'm probably completely off base, lol!

  3. By the way, I just gotta say, MonolithSoft are royalty when it comes to open world themes that hit just right:

    Xenoblade Chronicles - Gaur Plain

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - Gormott Province

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Millick Meadows

    Future Redeemed - Aurora Shelf

The only ones that don't really stand out to me are from Future Connected and Torna, but otherwise all of the above playing as you hit some of the truly open areas of their respective games is just perfect.  XBC2 has the honor of also having Roaming the Wastes as an absolute banger of a second great field theme.

Haven't seen Guardians 3 yet, but wanted to offer my thoughts on Star Wars Visions Season 2.  I love the fact that they tapped on a variety of different studios from around the world to tell stories because of how many cool ideas and backgrounds were introduced.  Some really striking episodes in that one but one of my favorites was The Bandits of Golak.  Love the primary characters in that one and the story was awesome with how great the integration of Desi people/culture was into that universe. "Sweets and plunder... Feast and wonder!"

It goes a bit deeper than that.

      Reveal hidden contents

Xenosaga Episode III ends with a heavily-damaged KOS-MOS drifting through space, and waking up as she approaches Lost Jerusalem, aka Earth. The post-credits scene of Future Redeemed depicts a faint blue light drifting toward the newly-reunited worlds, which may indeed be KOS-MOS.

The radio that Na’el is listening to during that Future Redeemed cutscene has the logo for Vector Industries on it. Vector Industries is a major corporation within Xenosaga that, among other things, is where KOS-MOS was manufactured. Dimitri Yuriev is also a major character who has lived for thousands of years by body-surfing.

On top of all that, if you check the legal notifications on the game’s start-up menu, Bandai Namco (the current owners of the Xenosaga IP) are listed under “special thanks”.

Monolith seems to be implying that Klaus’s experiment and the disappearance of Lost Jerusalem are one and the same event. Xenoblade and Xenosaga may take place in the same universe.

    Spoiler

That is wild if that is the implication.  I wonder if there is an opportunity for them to remake Xenosaga or even remaster it if there is a direct connection being suggested here.  My only real interaction with Xenosaga is the anime which was fairly confusing as I'm assuming they expected the audience to be coming into it already knowing context from the game.

  6. Finished the DLC Wednesday night I believe and I absolutely loved this ride.  I don't know if I like it or Torna more but both of those were better than Future Connected.  FC wasn't bad, it was great, the other two just happened to be greater.

I really enjoyed the party dynamic in this game and especially the banter between Matthew and A.  Some of the revelations were pretty good OMG moments but it still took me a couple of days of reflecting to truly understand this game's ties to the base game and the ending.  It's still such a great ride though; but I will say some of the deep cuts I don't quite understand and am curious about their implications for the future of the series (end game spoilers below):

    Spoiler

The radio broadcast that is overheard when the gang is "in" Klaus' world, the original incarnation of Earth:

    • Name drops for Coalition Government, Earth Colonization Project & Project Exodus which were from Xenoblade Chronicles X
    • Legal matters around the Saviorites which references the Klaus experiment cutscene in Xenoblade Chronicles 2

But moreso, everything below is apparently linked to Xenosaga/Gears which I never played so I have no real idea about these:

    • Philadelphia class mothership mention
    • Dmitri Yuriev mention
    • Destination of the transport ships (forgot the name of the galaxy

Also not what to make of the light falling to Earth after the ending showed the Earth reformed

I finally got around to reading this, really enjoyed it, thanks for the recommendation, @Kezay! Like you said, nice easy read but still a meaty enough story/setting that it'll be bouncing around in my head for a few days. I'll have to check out the second book sometime soon.

    Full book spoilers within:

You just know something's weird with Lin from the beginning, but I didn't consider she could be a construct until Bayan's melting face thing happened. The whole time I thought she was some other girl being fed the memories of Lin, but the Emperor's true goals were much more interesting (and much more twisted!).

Same with Sand, I assumed she was the real Lin early on, then I thought she might be Emahla, but being another construct is very intriguing. Most of all, now I'm curious why the Emperor would even bother keeping those constructs alive on that island. Seems like he's the type to just destroy a "tool" if it's not working properly.

Lots of seeds planted for the next books, I'm excited to see how they turn out. The Alanga, Mephi who seems to be connected to the witstone (maybe fossilized remains of Mephi's species?), the sinking islands—lots to explore, in addition to the main characters' arcs.

Also I really like the idea of an island-based empire where the islands float/move around. Just a cool setting for a fantasy story.

I'm still turning over in my mind why Lin and Jovis's chapters are written first-person while the others are third-person. I guess it just sets them apart as important characters, but I kept wondering if there was more to it than that.

Oh my gosh, I'm so late following up here, haha!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it and it was good hearing your thoughts in the spoilers section of your post.  I definitely sets up a lot (and more) in the second book, Bone Shard Emperor.  I just finished that one back in February.  Also a very easy read but a good read like the first.  Quite a few questions get answered in it but it will leave you with a few more for the third and final book... which just came out in April!  I got that one too but haven't started on it yet.

I need a gx deep dive if final trailer to confirm my feelings but with what I saw I wonder if they are coming up with a way to tie all the games together because I saw some stuff from every game...

    And what up with spacesuit/rocket?

I feel like even Breath of the Wild had a ton of references to other games especially in the naming scheme of its locales and design of some of them.  I'm curious how much more this game will have with the new areas you can visit in the sky and underground.

  9. Dropped off the series at some point into the Hoenn journey way back when.  Even so, it's still bittersweet to see this journey finally coming to an end and a new one starting.  I don't know that I'll watch the new series but I'm looking forward to seeing the direction the anime goes in from here on out!

  10. It's a shame that there is so much polarization around this game because it's so much fun to play.  If it weren't for work and personal matters I'd be playing it (Violet) a lot more than I have been.  I'm still early on with it but I love just getting lost in the world and seeing all the little details.  Can't wait to see what more of the game has to offer!

  11. @DLurkster

Very good song choices and to be honest, listening to the first one you spoiled again I nearly forgot how good that song is.

    As for mine:

I personally love this theme because it falls in line with Gaur Plains from XC1 and Gormott from XC2 as that theme of starting a grand adventure as wide open field opens before you.  It gets me so pumped and so anxious to explore everything without getting too distracted to continue the story, lol

This first one was such a gut punch and an unexpectedly emotional moment this point in the game.

    Spoiler

This one... I just love how they weave in the motif from the off-seer melodies into some of these tracks but this one has to be my favorite.

    Spoiler

I don't want to say too much in fear of spoiling but simply put this track is such a perfect theme for this character.  I'll put more details into the spoiler:

    Spoiler

I truly felt for "N" at this point in the game. Yeah, he was deluded, needed to be stopped but that man suffered so much before getting to the point where he ultimately chose the wrong path.  That this track reflects several themes tied to Noah's character and what he has done in previous iterations... this is such a testament his struggle, if not his existence in general.  The way he struggled reminds me of the path Jin walked after Lora was killed, except ramped up to 11.  I almost wanted to write this character off at first because of how blatantly obvious who he was when he was first introduced but it was almost as if his being revealed was meant to be obvious on the surface because there were so many layers to him to peel back in the remainder 40+ hours of the game.

  12. I like the visual style of it, but just reading the review this feels like a game that would be great as a minigame in a different game that is bigger in scope rather than its own thing.  Or even a bite sized version of itself being a minigame in a party game.  I looked up a video of the game and it does look fun but I can see how it could wear out its welcome before long.

  13. LOL, well the intention with the second paragraph wasn't to tear you a new one; just highlighting why I disagreed and why there are losers in this situation.  Others may very well disagree with me and that's perfectly fine; I like the discussion all the same.  And you're right; I don't want to imply that Hellena is necessarily guilty insofar that she intentionally deceived people but it's pretty clear that she wasn't being completely forthcoming about the situation until she basically had to speak more to those details.  But I do believe that the emotional charge behind her initial message created a false narrative of what was going on and as more information came out the conversation began to snowball in a way that she could no longer control what she created and it eventually turned on her.

I at least hope for you Dunsparce makes appearance in S/V. That's about it not that I think it would be a waste for a variant or new evolution but c'mon bro it's Dunsparce.

    *Shrugs* to each their own.

Dude, we'll never know how far Dunsparce can go if we don't give our boy the opportunity.  This Pokemon has been overlooked and disrespected for 20+ years.  Check it, he's got little wings, a drill for a tail and chin spikes.  There's a powerful entity in that one; we just don't know it yet!

As for Shadow's video, looking forward to what ghost types we might be getting!

Probably nothing too huge - could just be a trailer with a new Pokémon reveal/tease or like Wiglett or Grafaiai ones

Still looking forward to see what they’ll be showing off tomorrow, though

The ball went to Hellena after she said she wants to put this behind from the Bloomberg report. I get to defend yourself no matter your position or temperament but we're back to who said this and who said that. The no winners and losers and both to me are innocent till one is proven guilty, we need some sort of 3rd party with no stake in either case that has a account on the events here. The closet thing to that were the 2 unnamed sources of Bloomberg. Regardless where any stands and ppl are welcome ask those sources to come open, as we should know with journalist can't burn the trust of sources just to settle a matter once and for all.

I'm all for anyone not for corps and what they do and yeah, I'm leaning on the sources but the things Hellena have said from the start and now just gets more and more damning for her. Again, all for stating ones truth but when it's obvious that pieces of information not only are mixed up but left out first and amended to support her and barely matches with stuff she said is not true from Bloomberg, isn't a good look and that's all I will say.

Hellena opened the door to this conversation and beyond her statement piece and plea to action was also the lack of detail around the compensation provided and the commanding ownership of the character.  Now that we have details that run counter to her claims the onus is on her to further emphasize what exactly is it that she was wanting from this.  Because, and I know how this is going to sound, the more this goes on the less I believe that Hellena was truly intending to rally around the conversation of where the industry is failing its workers and more around how she perceives the industry (or in this case Nintendo/Platinum) is failing her.  Speaking as an individual that has wants and needs I don't fault her for that, but now we're hearing that she was only telling part of the story and wanting to just put this all behind her as the conversation started to take a turn.  It's difficult to even want to rally around her when the door she forcefully opened she now wants to quietly walk back through leaving everyone she entreated to the discussion to manage it for her.

I also disagree with the no winners and losers part, because there are arguably some losers here.  I don't know how this sort of thing travels in networking circles but Hellena's slate of work is already not extensive and could have potentially damaged her brand going forward; but that's self inflicted so she gets to own that.  But you now have a controversy that will be a part of the Bayonetta series' DNA for a while yet to come.  You have Jennifer Hale who was unfairly pulled into this madness and while I don't think there will be any damage to her career she basically got to be the punching bag as the "not Bayonetta" because of Hellena's initial comments.  You have Hideki Kamiya he will probably ultimately not care in the end but for everything about him people criticize him for there is now a faction of people who have no problem being blatantly and openly terrible towards him leveraging this situation as reason enough to basically attack him personally.  You have other voice actors and personalities in the industry who have been fighting for the kind of support that Hellena falsely represented and the blowback from that is in no way a step towards progress in their fight to overcome those challenges.

That last one being the worst of them all because that was the platform Hellena implied she was fighting for when all of this started and everything that has happened since then has done nothing but undo whatever message she thought she was promoting.

  16. 16 minutes ago, Tyranogre said:

Either Kamiya or someone else at Platinum should have had a written document detailing the amount Helena was offered, along with proof that she rejected it.

Unless an NDA is preventing the release of said document, all Kamiya would've had to do is share a screenshot of it.

Honestly, that's not something likely to happen even if Kamiya wanted to and not even just from an NDA perspective.  That would be like your boss publicly sharing your compensation documentation on social media as a way to combat you claiming you were being paid less than what you actually were.
