If the 22 matches played Saturday was an 11-11 draw, then that would’ve been a weird omen that the 4th quarter would end in a tie bringing it into overtime. But the Chiefs won in overtime.

I might not have said, but my inventory is next Fri/Sat. Feb 2-3.  We got moved.  My Smashing Saturday is tied to how good I feel because we have a long Friday and at least a half day Saturday.   If I'm up to it, I'll go.

And I'm not talking about my ex-husband Nestor. Heyooo!

You know that one box in that attic that's way in the back? And none of the other boxes had anything good, so this one's not worth the cobwebs? Well apparently it was the NES which I had one vague childhood memory of seeing, which we'd assumed had just vanished into the ether of the ages. Contra was in there, so the brother and I are trying to beat it. Who knew it had more than one level!? (Not the 4-year-olds who played it back then.)

Maybe it's just that I'm tired and bewildered these days, or the fuss of cables, a lousy TV, and cartridges not reading, but I wasn't as stunned as I expected to be.  Still awesome though! One of the coolest Nintendo treasures out there... when it decides to work. I wish the boys could see how hard I've been blowing tonight.

Coincidentally I'd recently bought a NES controller just as a little Nintendo treasure. I couldn't believe it was only $8 at a retro game store. Same with the games I just got for $30--Super Mario Bros, Jackal for more co-op, and Wheel of Fortune with the original box and manual. I want to get The Legend of Zelda with its original packaging, and beat that and every level of SMB. I've beaten them on the 3DS Virtual Console, but beating the original games on their original consoles feels like a rite of passage to me.

If anyone wants to do a Xmas theme this week, with Xmas being a week away from today, race as Red or Green characters and choose Merry Mountain if it shows up. If not we can always do a quick race on it in a friend room after the tourney.

I’m surprised to see Jet Force Gemini come to the NSO + Expansion Pass for N64. I hope this means other Rare N64 games can pop up on the service.

I don’t want to jinx anything by saying this, but outside of 007 Golden Eye, Banjo-Kazooie and Jet Force Gemini are also on the Rare Replay that are also on the NSO N64 library. It makes me wonder if we’re only going to get the N64 games that show up on the Rare Replay since they’ve already been “enhanced”? Hopefully I’m wrong, because I want to see DK 64 and Diddy Kong Racing as well as the remaining N64 Rare games.  But since 007 Golden Eye did show up for NSO N64 (and Xbox) I could be wrong about the N64 Rare Replay games only showing up to the NSO N64 library.

The Albraskan reacted to Link, the Hero of Dreams in Mario Kart 8 DLX +48 (aka Booster Course Pass) Discussion Wave 6 11/9 ITS ALIVE!
Okay, so Wave 6, the last one, is finally out:

Tour Rome Avanti: Like Athens Dash, I mostly like this because of the setting and maybe music. Some enemy placement was weird. (I mean, there are random Fuzzies on a chain near the end of the third lap. Other than that, 9.5/10
GCN DK Mountain: It should have been Wario Colosseum or Mushroom City, but I won't like that I was still happy that DK Mountain is still here. Unlike Wii, the ramps are actually the part of the mountain. Those pesky halfpipes aside, this was a great course of great music too. 9.5/10
Wii Daisy Circuit: Okay, so there was no real change to this course, except for the ending area with the jumps and boosts, so I don't know why this course in one of the final tracks. (Maybe there's a gliding thing where the cardboard Piranha Plant is.) That aside, it is a total upgrade from the original course in ever way. 9.5/10.
Piranha Plant Cove: I had to look at gameplay footage again, because I almost forgot how it went. Honestly, this is one of the best new tracks for this game. No real complaint here. 10/10.

Tour Madrid Drift: I can't lie, the only thing I truly hated was the Wiggler. Why'd it wake up in the second lap? 9.5/10 for me.
Rosalina's Ice Bore: It one of the worst camera uses ever. Don't deny it. It sounds and looks prettier, but it's a stinking 2/10 for me. It's one of the tracks that I agree to now should have NEVER come back. I'd take Sky Guy Bazaar or the Wuhu tracks over this monstrosity.
SNES Bowser Castle 3: Okay, I'm at least glad we got this track. But, how does it work jumping seven games later? Actually, it's way better than the original track in every way. Except maybe for a certain Thwomp at the end near a jump ramp. 9.5/10.
Wii Rainbow Road: We all agree Mario Kart 8's Camera does not work well with half-pipes, right? I want to know who was responsible for bringing on one of the most reliable of these half-pipes here?! That was my main problem with this track, and I was somewhat proven wrong. "It should have been GBA Rainbow Road" aside, at least the item balancing in this game makes this track a little better. Although RIP Toad's Factory. Hmmm... I'd give it a 8/10.

    Overall: 68/80.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    From worst to best:

Wave 1: 51/80-  Worst Track: 3DS Circuit- Best Track- Tour Tokyo Blur
Wave 2: 58/80- Worst Track: SNES Mario Circuit 3- Best Track- N64 Kalimari Desert
Wave 4: 65/80- Worst Track: DS Mario Circuit- Best Track- GBA Riverside Park
Wave 6: 68/80- Worst Track: 3DS Rosalina's Ice World- Best Track- Piranha Plant Cove
Wave 5: 72/80- Worst Track: GBA Sunset Wilds- Best Track- Wii Koopa Cape
Wave 3: 78/80- Worst Track- GBA Boo Lake- Best Track- Mostly all of them, but I will give a huge shout-out to Berlin Byways.

    47.-48. ???

    46.    MK8D Mario Kart Stadium

-A perfect introduction to anti-gravity, and it’s not the generic Mario Circuit for once. Great music too.

    45. Daisy Circuit (Wii/MK8D)

-Possibly the only circuit in Mario Kart existence that is tolerable and fun to ride on in each game it's in because of the music and atmosphere alone.

    44.    MK8D Excitebike Arena

--I love how the course changes each time, and how it’s themed after the Excitebike game, but it’s nothing too special. Plus, there’s another circle track which is better.

    43.    MK8D Hyrule Circuit

-I love the details in the track, even if it’s not too special. Great theming, still, and wonderful music.

    42.  Tour Vancouver Velocity (MK8D)

-I love how it’s more like a Winter and Nighttime version of Amsterdam Drift. At least this course has great music.

    41. GCN DK Mountain (Original/ Wii/ MK8D)

Each has their own problems, but there's still great qualities of each of them.

    40.   GCN Walugi Stadium (Original/ Wii/ MK8D)

--One of the most hectic but fun tracks in Double Dash. It makes players feel like they’re in a monster truck derby. It truly deserves its iconic status. When the first remake came, of course, the trick system helped this track a lot! As for the second, I love this course, but does anyone else feel like the anti-gravity part wasn’t implemented right? Still fun, regardless.

    39.    Wii Maple Treeway (Original/ 3DS/ MK8D)

-Stunning. Its music and artistic design are top notch! For the first remake, it now as a gliding section and its half-pipe is gone. Still fun, though. As for the second, it didn’t need to happen, but it’s one of the better retro courses regardless. Not sure how I feel about the half-pipe coming back, though.

    38.    MK8D Dolphin Shoals

-Fun. It has the dolphins from Super Mario World, the Unagi from Super Mario 64, and that roaring saxophone. The music also changes above water and under water. I love the music a lot.

    37.    DS Peach Gardens (Original/ Wii/ MK8D)

-Until playing the MK8D Booster Course Pass version, I never found this track to really wow me. That has happily changed. The paths to take, the music, the design, the roaming Chain Chomps, and the Monty Moles at the end make this track dynamic. Plus, I guess it’s fun that it takes place in Peach’s back yard or so. That’s really cool. The Wii track might be in HD, but the MK8D track is cuter, and that change at the last lap really surprised me, like Kalimari Desert. Don’t sleep on it.

    36.    GCN Yoshi Circuit (Original/ MK8D)

--it’s a track based on Yoshi, with some of the best shortcuts ever. As for the remake, even without one of the shortcuts, it is still a faithful reimagining of the classic course.

    35. SNES Bowser Castle Castle 3 (MK8D)

The tremendous thirty years have made this track better!

     34.    SNES Rainbow Road (Original/ 3DS/ MK8D)

-The first and one of the most challenging Rainbow Roads ever. It’s so iconic, that it got remade twice. Plus, those Rainbow Thwomps are special. The first remake has nothing really new, except for some jump ramps. Hands down a better iteration. And the second is just prettier.

    33.    N64 Royal Raceway (Original/ MK8D)

-That huge jump and being able to go to Peach’s Castle like in Super Mario 64 make this track special. As for the remake, even though the recent version cuts off the way to Peach’s Castle, the new gliding section makes this track all the more worth it.

    32.    3DS Rainbow Road (Original/ MK8D)

-One of the most brilliant Rainbow Roads to date. It feels like interstellar travel more than anything, and it’s put into sections. And, I think it’s a track that didn’t need to come to MK8D. Still, it’s fine to race on, the color of the rainbow road and the sun flare notwithstanding.  Maybe the best iteration, if it wasn’t for…

    31.    Tour New York Minute (MK8D)

-It feels so NYC, that I don’t care. One of my personal favorite tour tracks.

    30.    Tour Los Angeles Laps (MK8D)

That half-pipe anti-gravity thing feels out of place, and the third sections might be visually uninteresting compared to the other two, but it has a great vibe, a great soundtrack, and three sections.

    29.    Tour Athens Dash (MK8D)

-I love how rustic and cute this course is. Could’ve done without the pillars at the end, though.

    28.    Wii Coconut Mall (Original/ 3DS)

-Loosely based on the Sunshine game, this shopping mall is so incredible~! The first remake has a gliding section! (The less said about the MK8D version, the better.)

    27. Tour Madrid Drift (MK8D)

Except for the Wiggler who couldn't sleep in Lap 2, this track was fun!~

    26.    3DS Piranha Plant Slide (Original/ MK8D)

-It’s a fun waterslide course based on the Super Mario Bros. Underground theme. And, it’s cool. The remake also has anti-gravity!

    25.    Tour Singapore Speedway (MK8D)

-Easily one of the best Tour tracks because of the sections and the atmosphere. Although not as groovy as the next track, it’s fine. Too bad the sections are somewhat short, that I’ll barely hear most of the normal song by the end of the second lap.

    24. Tour Rome Avanti (MK8D)

Athens Dash done better in the night. Except for some weird enemy placement.

    23.    Tour Berlin Byways (MK8D)

Ah, crap- *dances* I also like that the Thwomps falling down symbolize the fall of the Berlin Wall from the 1990s. It's still my favorite Tour track, but not my favorite traffic course.

    22.    GCN Mushroom City

-By far, my favorite traffic course. It has the memorable visuals, the track design, the cars, and the different paths. The music perfectly captures a bustling city vibe with the night time, and to me, the music is used better here than on Mushroom Bridge. Mushroom Bridge would’ve been ten times better with Shroom Ridge’s music. It always reminded me of the Cubox show too.

    21.    GBA Sky Garden (Original/ DS)

-One of the best GBA courses hands down. It feels like I’m on a course inspired by Jack and the Beanstalk. Truly iconic. And the remake is hands down the best retro track on Mario Kart DS. (Just disregard the MK8D version, okay?)

    20.    GBA Ribbon Road (Original/ MK8D)

    - The theme and two turn jumps make this track unique and fun. More fun than most Rainbow Road.  The remake's an interesting take on Ribbon Road. And perhaps the best remake of a GBA course, since they botched an important feature of Sunset Wilds.

    19.    N64 Kalimari Desert (Original/ 3DS/ MK8D)

-I always found this track overrated; but, I cannot deny how fun it is. The music and atmosphere make this track stand out. Its train changes depending on the players. Truly, a legend. Now players can glide over the train! …. Okay, so now racers can trick off the train, and part of the second and third laps now take place ON THE TRACK ITSELF, making this race feel more claustrophobic. It’s genius. I also like the music.

    18.    MK8D Yoshi’s Island

-Hard turns aside… This is just like a retelling on the track. The sound effects and music are remixed from the original game, and that is so cool! There’s so many references as well!

    17. MK8D Piranha Plant Cove

-Not gonna lie, this is one of the best original tracks ever. It's just so fun and charming!

    16.    MK8D Mute City

    -Bittersweet as it is.

    15.    N64 Rainbow Road (Original/ MK8D)

-By far, the longest track in history. It has a great atmosphere, and amazing music. Some people might say it’s too long, and it’s too easy; but I don’t care. Plus, it has one of the most impressive shortcuts ever. The remake is the best iteration of Rainbow Road ever. The three laps are now thankfully replaced with three sections, making this version stand out more. There’s also a lot more gameplay and aesthetic changes that make this track the best Rainbow Road out of all courses. But, shockingly, it’s not my favorite track ever.

    14.    MK8D Mount Wario

One of the best sectioned tracks, and with good reason. The track is like an amplified ski/snowboarding place, and maybe even better than what DK Summit did. I don’t know why Wario owns it, but the extreme winter sports vibe makes this track stand out. Plus, the music changes for each lap. But, it’s not my favorite Wario track.

    13.    MK8D Big Blue

Mute City, but with water and with sections. Maybe the biggest highlight of the DLC as a whole.

    12.    GCN Wario Colosseum

-Underappreciated compared to Waluigi’s Stadium. This track is so long, that it only needs the two laps. It’s like N64’s Wario Stadium, but more chaotic in design. The turns and simple layout make this track truly iconic.

    11.    GBA Sunset Wilds (Original/ MK8D)

-The original has an amazing theme, an amazing background gimmick, an amazing design, amazing enemies, and amazing music.

As for the remake… My only real complaint about the current remade track DOESN’T have the sunset to nighttime transition. YOU EASILY DID THAT FOR THAT $%#%@#$$ING MOBILE GAME, NINTENDO! NO EXCUSES! Still fun to play on, regardless.

    10.    N64 Koopa Troopa Beach (3DS)

-The original is a cool and calm track with one of the most chaotic shortcuts ever. Plus, another jump comes to mind to. Some might say it’s the best beach level ever, but I disagree. Now, for the remake, I agree. It has the new underwater and gliding gimmick. It’s not much, but it makes this track more fun!

    9.    GCN Daisy Cruiser (Original/3DS/MK8D)

Daisy has a ship, and it’s amazing. Never have I thought riding on a cruiser would work, but the mad lads at Nintendo did it. I love the middle section where the dining room tables and chairs move, and the shortcut at the end. Riding on this track brings me memories of riding on a cruise ship to Mexico decades ago. The music is good too, even if it’s shared with Peach Beach’s. Then there’s the other two versions. The new underwater sections make this track a lot more fun! …. And now there’s Goombas on floatation devices. Why there isn’t an anti-gravity part on the moving dining room section is beyond me, but it’s still a great course.

    8.    MK8D Merry Mountain

-How… how did they make AN AMAZING WINTER TRACK AGAIN?!

    7.    GCN Sherbet Land (Original. MK8D)

-It might be slippery, but I always loved this track. The Freezies, the Ice Skating Shy Guys, the visuals, and the music always make me think of Christmas. It’s chaotic, but fun. Plus, the remix has a much more gorgeous vibe, underwater, and antigravity. I’m sorry, but the power of Christmas forced me to put it here.

    6.    MK8D Animal Crossing

-I like the theming, but some seasons are definitely better than others. Still, I think it's the best other IP track, because I love AC.

    5.    DS Luigi’s Mansion (Original/ 3DS)

--Even though it could’ve been better with exploring more of the mansion, this track perfectly encapsulates the GameCube game. Now, with the remake, it’s prettier, and there’s gliding sections. Too bad about the Portrait Ghosts, though.

    4.    DS Airship Fortress (Original/ 3DS)

--It’s based on the levels in Super Mario Bros. 3. To me, it’s better than all of the Bowser’s Castles combined. The glider part doesn’t feel needed, but it’s still a fun track overall.

    3.    3DS Music Park (Original/MK8D)

-It’s a course all about music. And, that’s why I like it! The remake has nothing new, but it’s still fun.

     2.    GCN Baby Park (Original/MK8D)

-… It’s one of the most chaotic tracks ever for how simple this track is. And that’s why I love it.    And, although not it’s as chaotic as the original, the MK8D remix is still just as fun. (Players want to forget the DS one.)

    1.    DS Waluigi Pinball (3DS/MK8D)

--It’s the perfect amalgamation of theming, music, sound design, visuals, track design, and challenge. Nothing comes close. The gliding part didn’t need to exist, but I’m glad this track is still fun.

I've actually waited years to make this list, and it really changed since then, with the DLC and Bouster Course Pass tracks.

This would be a great way to finally release the tracks from the Satellaview F-ZERO games (BS F-ZERO Grand Prix/BS F-ZERO Grand Prix 2) outside of Japan. It'd be cool if we also got the new vehicles "Machines" from these games as well. All of this would be a great way to keep the game going and to keep people coming back.

No, I have played both Pro Controller and handheld and agree with steering being nearly impossible with the control stick. D-Pad feels more natural for F-Zero.

I finally got a chance to play the game this evening and its pretty fun. Though, I feel like there needs to a bit more than just trying to get first, if it's really going to keep people coming back (I know that's the point with these games, but you know what I mean). Maybe if they added some more unlockables (Most of the unlockables seem to be lvl based instead of achievement based) or some TETRIS 99 style events with special unlockables. BTW, I really wish you could use also L+R  to do a spin attack when using any controller and not just when using a single Joy-Con (SL+SR) or the NSO SNES control. This would help when using my 8Bitdo Gbros. adapter and my SNES Classic controller (I don't have the NSO SNES controller, I was going to get it when it released, but it was sold out for the longest time, so I never did), because since it's recognized as pro controller I have to use ZL or ZR to attack, which I don't have. It's not a big deal since, I don't find myself attacking too often. Though, in a Team Battle (Special Event) where's it's needed, I have to go into the System Settings and remap the buttons. Hopefully, they add some control options in a future update.

I really like how smooth this game is compared to the original (Like, DAMN!). I also like how sharp the "Mode 7" is. It's like that HD Mode 7 mod for SNES games. So far the highest I got was 18th on Big Blue. I would have gotten higher, but I kept using all my boost at the finish on Mute City and then getting slammed from behind and crashing out right at the finish on the final lap. Using all my boost at the finish worked for me quite a few times before and I even earned a badge for crossing the finish with no power left. Though, for some reason it kept biting me the ass multiple times in a row. Speaking of Mute City, it gets picked way too often. It really is like the Wii Luigi Circuit or 3DS Toad Circuit of this game. I've noticed that this game seems to rely on how good of start you get making it to the starting line. I've mostly got the timing down to get the boost at the start, but sometimes I'll get a great start and others beside me will shoot ahead all of a sudden before I can get to the starting line (usually just before the boots pads). IDK what the deal with that is. I've been close to crossing the starting line in first (trying to get the unlockable for doing this) and others will shoot a head of me. I know there were no boost pads around (I know on some tracks they aren't always in the same row) and you can't use your boost until you cross the starting line, so IDK! Speaking of boost pads, if you let go of accelerate (B) right as you hit a boost pad, the boost will be more powerful, right? I don't remember if this was in the SNES game or only in later games. Maybe I'm thinking of another game entirely...?

Overall I like this game, but I'm not sure how often I'll keep coming back. Maybe if they also added playing with friends as mentioned in my previous post along with what I mentioned above, that would help...? I'm curious to see what they have planned for future updates (I wouldn't be surprised to see paid offline mode(s) ).

I always play on Wi-Fi and I've never had any issues with the 99 games (or the 35 game).

    Battle Mode this week?

Also, incase I forget... Birthday Theme next week, since me, DL and, PB all have B-days next week (with DL's being on MK night)?

    Super quick thoughts

Squeaky clean is cool...lots of alt paths.

LA and Athens are cool...like LA a little more. Vancouver is OK.

Sunset is kind of meh...lack of hazards...one jump is all the mods.  Prefer gba.

KC is decent but some oddities in the pipes and it not being as wide as wkwii make me have to change strategies I had.

    Update is live.

I say this with least amount of enthusiasm.
