  3. It is my hope that all in the Nintendo Sports Universe have enjoyed the post NWS winter break. We're still basking in the glow of that epic game 7 between the Coins and Interlopers, but as with all things, time passes, and new opportunities arise. Which is why I return with several announcements. First off, the Nintendo Baseball League's league year will start on February 1st...with the start of player re-signing. The salary cap numbers and individual player maximums will be announced later this week, but most expect the cap to be $150 million, with individual player max to be at $20 million. For sake of this offseason, we will assume that all players left unsigned or those who have turned down offers will enter free agency (ie: no continuing contracts). Player re-signing will go through the 7th after which free agency will start on the 8th and run through the 16th. Secondly, the 2019 Nintendo Association Football season will kick off on March 2nd. As with seasons past, the NAFA season will involve teams playing within their own franchise/league, but as this is a Confederations Cup cycle, only league champions will be assured of advancing to the Cup Finals in June (2nd place teams will contest the playoff round to make the field of 16 teams). The season begins March 2nd and goes for 14 regular season matchdays concluding on June 1st, with the playoff rounds to be contested on June 5th and June 8th. Nintendo Confederations Cup Finals will be held jointly by France (hosting FIFA women's world cup 2019), and Egypt (hosting CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2019). The opening match will take place in Paris on June 14th, with the final to be held in Cairo on June 30th. Thirdly, we already know that the MKRA will be returning on March 11th, with the opening race to be held at Sarasaland's Birabuto Kingdom. But that's not the big news out of Mushroom World today...no...the big news is that after a one year hiatus, the Toadstool Sports Spectacular is returning! 5 rounds of sports await our contestants, with the big field eventually getting whittled down to a 4-person Mario Party finale. Each NBL club earns 5 spots in the tournament, and so each team will decide their contestants prior to tomorrow's opening round. Here's the tentative schedule: Jan 29-31 - golf round - all players enter, top 40 in each of 4 regionals advance to the tennis round Feb 5-7 - tennis round - 160 players enter, top 20 in each of 4 regionals advance to the kart racing round Feb 12-13 - kart racing round - 80 players enter, top 8 in each of 4 grands prix advance to the fighting round Feb 19-20 - fighting round - 32 players enter, top 16 overall advance to the party semifinals Feb 26 - party semifinals - 4 board maps, winner of each map advances to party final Feb 28 - party final - final 4 contestants battle for the TSS Championship on one final board map NBL Season 31 / 2019 Apertura begins on March 3rd, 3 nights after the TSS Final, and the day after NAFA Opening Day. Welcome to 2019!! May this year of Nintendo RP sports be as epic as those that preceded.
