  1. It's not the paying for online, it's the fact that the online won't be any better now that you pay for it. You are paying for the game rentals, not improved connections.

  3. Please feel free to use this thread to tell us what games you're currently playing! I've been playing a lot of Team Fortress 2 lately (feels like 2009 to say that again...), and that's about it. If it counts, I'm also currently going through an LP of Dangan Ronpa 2, but since I'm poor I can't actually buy and play it. So? Whatcha playing?

  4. I've really been slacking off on making this thread, GU has been out for almost three weeks now. I've only been playing in earnest for the past week or so though, and just got to G1 rank over the weekend (I transferred my data—so nice to be able to just jump right into the game without tediously building up resources!). So consider this a general discussion thread for GU. Who else is playing? Did you start from scratch or transfer your data? Any interest in forming a regular hunting party here on Ninfora? What's New in Ultimate? Generations was already meant to be a collection that draws upon aspects of the entire Monster Hunter series, and Ultimate manages to expand on that even further—there are 93 large monsters in this game! Here's quick highlight of the new content: First and foremost, G-rank! The highest level of difficulty in a Monster Hunter game returns in GU, perfect for players that already mastered Generations and want to jump right into the more challenging content. 20 Additional Monsters (including old, new, and new variants): 2 New Hunting Styles (plus one new Art for each weapon): 7 Additional Maps (1 brand new, 2 returning, 1 arena, 3 monster-specific maps): Last but certainly not least, players are able to transfer their save data from Generations on the 3DS to GU by downloading a free app to the 3DS. 5. He just waltzed on through my work space and plopped a paw right in my black paint. Luckily I managed to scoop him up before he walked too far. Holding him still and washing his toe beans was not an enjoyable experience for either of us

  6. Very true, although I think Cloud may have found his way in regardless because he's like the poster boy for the mainstream reception of the franchise. But you're right, he did have an appearance in some form on a Nintendo platform so it counts. My thing with Snake is that I was hoping we might see more beyond Twin Snakes when he made his debut. Granted, that probably wasn't a possibility on Wii with MGS4 not being in the running and Konami wasn't all too focused on releasing the previous games at all, but at least on Wii U I was hoping we would at least see the MGS Collection. My family was pretty late in the game in adopting a computer and the internet into our home so I was still getting the majority of my news through gaming magazines. It pretty much blew my mind seeing Sonic games being announced for the Gamecube and GBA back then. But for me it was a case of legitimate shock to see it happen after all those years of rivalry and Mario and Sonic basically being THE icons representing any sort of console warring back in the day. Seeing the announcement of the FF ports was more like a "finally" after all this time. Krazy might even remember me slamming my fists on my bed while we watched it and saying exactly that, "finally!" I've played at least FF7, a little bit of FF8 and watched a friend play some FFX but beyond that I haven't had much experience with most of those so I'll almost definitely be getting them all so I can play the ones I want to completion.

  9. It could be that because when the online was supposed to come out a year ago, the online was trial up to summer last year with the release of Splatoon 2 and Nintendo Online App. But I feel since this delay had it stages since fall of last year, it wasn't more that they were testing but wait to announce Smash Ultimate this past March so when they said online is coming in September ppl suspected that Ultimate would be September as well. Because you only delay for two reasons to improve on something or waiting for the right timing to release with something incase the initial showing isn't strong enough to hold it is own. When I look at how the news was shared between the delay from last year fall till now. Not much has change beside the price given and the classic title, other than that no word how online play latency wise or etc will be. That does not bode well if you delayed for the sake of it to be overlooked by big title to take the brunt of any backlash. Clever, if true. I'm not the only one thinking this, most are think with the state of the paid online and where we are at with it now, is it no surprised most come to this sad conclusion if true.

  10. All I need is the game and I'm good to go. I already have 2 black GC controllers and 1 WaveBrird from back in the day. Plus, I already have the GC controller adapter from back when SSB4 Wii U launched.

  11. I get what you're saying but I think you're taking this to extreme with that Smash ultimate example. I'm not sure of the reason why Nintendo going the way as you describe it skeleton releases, I'd have problem if they did it like how Capcom makes you pay for full $60 fighting game and to get the rest of the characters you gotta pay for them. Like I said I get where you are coming but if the only thing you're looking at does not cost any money, why does it matter if you're getting content for free when nowadays ppl charge for that. I get that makes it look like the game is incomplete, again I'm not sure why there's shift with Nintendo with this but I'm not exactly saying I accept the practice of lack of content from the start but as long as you're not being charge for it. I see nothing wrong, tho there is the dangers of this heading down that path of paying but I don't see that happening at all or soon. I really hope it doesn't come to that. For sure some games, at least to me and Splatoon that makes sense cause other similar genres would charge these updates as DLC for Mario Tennis it is strange but these updates whether not they were ready from the start are coming and they are free. The whole $60 and waiting for free content is valid to express but amounts to nothing when content coming is free in the end. EDIT: Shit, how could I forget this. With NSO you need to pay to play online multiplayer games. So essentially you're now pay to get these characters. That now is hard to defend but seeing I'm going thru thru with this service despite my complains. We con voice our concerns and hope they listen more than ever with online play having a paywall. It's one thing to still update your game version and access the eShop is free but for Mario Tennis actually required to play online to get the characters. This isn't issue for Splatoon 2 because after the update, when you boot-up all the new content is already there for you there.

  12. If Mario Tennis Aces was a fully, fleshed out Mario Tennis game, it would be a better game and a potential must have experience on the Switch. Making the game so online dependent that certain modes are only available online prevents Aces from being that Mario Tennis experience. I'm comparing Aces with the rest of the Mario Tennis games because that's what it is. They decided to make it a skeleton of a game and so it falls short of other Mario Tennis titles that they approached differently. I personally don't like the approach of the Splatoon games, in terms of relying on updates to boost their content, and find Aces an even worse offender than those games because a lot of what they are offering for Aces' updates should be in the base game. I know several of the character updates were already in the game and should've been unlocked through playing the single player. That's the entire problem i have with Aces that they have made modes and characters that would've been in the base game years ago and instead have decided to have them unlocked or accessible through online play. I'm not interested in seeing Splatoon's approach in all multiplayer Nintendo games. I think a Nintendo game should be a full experience upon its release date rather than depending online updates to put meat on the bones. If people are asking for skeleton releases from Nintendo, that's a problem. Would you want Super Smash Brothers Ultimate to be a skeleton release where you get just 8 characters and 15 stages for $60 and the rest comes through online play? That would be terrible and that's exactly how I see Aces next to something like Mario Power Tennis.

  13. Final Fantasy VIII has a PC port, but this needs to be underscored by the fact the PC version has existed since 2000. FFVIII seems like such an odd omission I'm assuming SE just lacks the resources to do a proper port. I couldn't find anything definitely proving it's a technical issue but... any argument that amounts to 'Final Fantasy game won't sell' kinda ignores it's a Final Fantasy game; it'll sell.

  14. I'm not sure if this was always in the online section for Switch on Nintendo.com since the recent direct but suspend points and finger pointing will be included with NES on NSO.

  15. Ah shit, almost forgot to post this: NES NSO games will run in HD and have filter options.
