  1. Would be cool if the Pokemon Stadium games on N64 Mini could wirelessly connect to the Virtual Console Pokemon games on 3DS.

  2. I THOUGHT I might have a battery issue with my Switch and called Nintendo today about it. Last week I noticed it wouldn't turn on at all. I vacillated awhile before calling Nintendo on it, hoping it would miraculously just turn on one day. After finally calling them, it turns out the Switch sometimes has a small issue where the system gets stuck in sleep mode into perpetuity, and won't turn on. The Nintendo representative had me hold the power button for 15 seconds, then hit the power button once and *voila*--it turned on! Needless to say, I was quite relieved.

  3. Beat Super Mario World 100%. I wasn't planning on playing though the whole thing, but it's just such a perfect video game it just happens naturally. Continuing Star Fox...hard path is not going well.

  4. Hit level 33! Not that I need the levels at all (just dust and to some extent, candies now), but it's still nice I guess.

  6. My story is terribly unexciting. I planned on waiting outside Target, but decided to swing by Best Buy on the way. I found two people hanging by the doors, so I asked them if they were waiting for the SNES Classic, which they confirmed. So my companion and I stood outside for about ten minutes until a Best Buy employee handed a paper reserving my unit. I was #18. With that done, I headed home and watched television until the store opened about two hours later. Returning to Best Buy, I noticed a crowd of around twenty shuffling inside, so I joined them. I got my unit, along with a second that I'm giving to my father for Christmas, and left. End of story. No fights, no crazy late-night camps. The worse thing is that I lost a few hours of sleep, which is hardly a horrible thing.

  7. Ah. Never got a chance to try it out, but I like the MK games ok that I'd be willing to give it a try. I see. Dang that sucks . Sometimes copyright can be a real bitch. For the shits and giggles, what would you want to see on a Game Boy Mini?

  8. Wow. Might be interested in the N64, but only if it had good games. As for the Game Boy... a bit soon? Some repeats here but what I'd love to see

  9. So my in-depth post: ORIGINAL SNES: My brother and I wanted one real bad but we were fine with our NES library till we could get one. The fall after its release we pooled our money we made selling drinks at ECU football games and put one on layaway at Brendles. After we made our final payment we immediately went home and broke out exploring everything Super Mario World had to offer. While release dates escape me I vividly recall we wanted F Zero. We got that one. I believe by the time all was said and done our SNES physical catalog was SMW, SMW 2 YI, F Zero, Mario Paint, Super Mario All Stars, Super Metroid, Super Ghouls N Ghosts, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy III, DKC I-3, LoZ A LttP, Tetris & Dr. Mario, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG, Sim City, Yoshi's Cookie and I am sure there are a few others I am just not recalling right now. What I loved about the console was the HUGE upgrade in graphics and sound over the NES. IMO, those two things really helped the RPG genre. SNES Classic: As I stated before, neither my brother nor I could get in on a PO for one and we both wanted one. I really couldn't do a request to close launch day so I could do a wait in line camp out like I managed to do for the TRU restock of the NES Classic. I was just going to be happy to get one before Christmas as it would most likely my Christmas present to myself. Well, lo and behold last Thursday I was in my local Wal Mart looking at some stuff with my mom and as we were exiting their electronics department I saw what looked like them in their case on the floor where they keep their Switch and 3DS stock. I told my mom to hold up for a minute and I went up to the counter and asked if I could get something out of the cabinet. The clerk obliged and walked over and got one out for me and I got rang up! No register block no nothing....bought and left! I immediately texted my brother that they had 2 left at that particular location and it was sent with a pic of the one I had just bought. The Wal Mart near his work didn't have theirs yet and he managed to get the last one the store I had gotten mine at had. I was like THANK GOD, we both got ours on time, no camping out at 2am at TRU, no scalping, no problems. In my wildest dreams I would have never thought it would have gone that easy. ************ ************ Personal stories tied each game I actually have a story to tell: Super Mario World: What I loved about the game was the HUGE world map and interactive/intertwined paths through out the whole map. I also loved that a lot of the stages had dual exits for secret stuff and the fact you could open up the Star World for a multi-path warp world to different sections of the game. The level design and elements were insane. I loved the map screen with the terrain changes at say world 2, then the forest of illusion, chocolate island, and then Bowser's sunken ship coming out of the water. In Bowser's world I loved the castle and the lighting flashes in the background. The usage of Yoshi was great. I loved the flipping around on the fences mechanic. I did like the cape power up as well. Who can forget all the stuff tied to P Blocks and Switch Palaces? IMO though the game had two flaws: 1) the power ups seemed so unimpressive after experiencing all the different gear from SMB3 and 2) The Koopalings were way to easy to beat versus how hard they were in SMB3. Super Mario Kart: My brother and I were like WHAT.... a Mario racing game? We had to have it. We put in tons of hours playing the Cups and its own legendary Battle Mode. We even tried to have our own challenge of playing characters we wouldn't race as and see if we could beat the entire game to get each individual racers cut scene at the end with the Gold Cup ceremony. In normal play we would always go for Koopa or Toad. My fun story with this game though was my brother's friend was talking mad crap about how good he was so he and I did a battle mode alternating courses. After I got up about 22-0 it battles he quit and went home. I'd say Battle Mode and the Unique racer items were two of its coolest ideas that i wish had been consistently done throughout the series. IMO, only MK64 and MK8DLX have had as good of a Battle Arena selection and design ( MKWIiI had good arenas but were set up too large to really set the tension right). IMO, this game series has been a flagship title on nearly every console it has appeared on. LoZ: ALttP: I loved the first two NES Zelda games and couldn't wait for a SNES upgraded version in the series. If I am not mistaken we had a PO in at TRU for the game and once TRU called that it was in I got in my car and made like grease lightning to TRU to pick it up. When I got home my parents were like " I never want to see you speed like that out the driveway and in the neighborhood again!" My brother and I played that game till like 2-3am release night. It stands out as my favorite Zelda game ever. The graphics, the music, the level design, the plot, the secrets, the light/dark worlds ...everything done right and that 16bit style was SOOOOOOOOO great. My only lament on series in the 16bit era is that I never got why they did Super Mario All Stars and never went back to do the same kind of treatment for the two NES Zelda games. F Zero: What's a racing game without speed? F Zero had it. If I am not mistaken we also got this one from TRU as well. I really loved the music and the track designs. I was a huge Samurai Goroh racer... I think my brother was into the guy who drove the yellow car and maybe Captain Falcon, neither of us really felt Pico. One thing I loved about the game like I said was the music, so what my brother and I would do is hook up the audio cords to this boom box I had that had a bass boost so when we crashed we could feel the bass rumble! That just brought the realism home. Heck, we even spooked our neighbor one time when he tried it because he wasn't expecting that kind of bass feedback from the stereo. Super Metorid *never played personally till I got it on Wii VC. *I did play a little of the NES game at a friends house once. It came out a time I couldn't invest the time in getting into it. Super Street Fighter II Turbo *didn't play --honestly, neither my brother nor I were much into fighting games although a lot of our friends were. Super Punch Out *never played till I got it on Wii VC. Super Castlevania IV * NEVER PLAYED till I got it on Wii VC. *I couldn't resist buying this game when it hit the Wii's VC. I had dabbled in playing the NES games but IMO, the music, level design, mode 7 usage, and graphics had me really loving this game. Donkey Kong Country I remember my brother and I getting this game and moving the SNES downstairs to the bigger tv because our parents were gone for the weekend. We played it all night. I was never that great at it because I could never get the timing down on the barrel jumping. My brother was all about this game and really loved it. Mega Man X *never played Kirby Super Star *never played Final Fantasy III I really got into this game. I loved the story, the graphics, the music, the party members, the whole thing.... then I hit a wall with level grinding and then got hit wit with the notice I couldn't get my Ninja back... at that point... I tried to grind a little more but then I just lost interest and desire to finish the level grinding needed to have a shot at the next part of the game I needed to do. Kirby's Dream Course * never played Star Fox *never played till a few years ago when I scored a used copy on the cheap. Ehh... when I played it on the original hardware it played too slow for me to get into. SMW2: YI What I remember about this game most was the thought that we get a SNES sequel to a Mario game, yet it stars Yoshi ...the hell. Then the fact that you had to keep baby Mario happy all the time and his cries would drive you insane. After that, it was the music, and the graphics, and the level designs with all the hidden secrets along with Yoshi's transformations that just engulfed my interest in the game. Those crystal caves, the snow skiing portion, all the crazy bosses with their own unique designs. The crazy use of Mode 7 rotation and shrinking/enlarging the sprites. The greatness of this game is why I was so bummed and mad about what they tried to pass as the sequel, Yoshi's Story, on the N64. Super Mario RPG My first thoughts when this game was announced was "Mario... in a RPG? Sure I'll give it a shot." This game was so epic on so many levels with the characters you'd run into, the areas you would visit, the battle system, the 3/4 perspective, the side quests, the decisions to make on leveling up and what not. I'll say that Mallow, Frogfuscious, Boshi, Bellome (sp?), the Shark Boss (official name?), and the final Boss all stood out to me. I just really loved they could pull off a RPG like this in the Mario universe of characters along with all of its unique spin on the genre. Contra III: The Alien Wars *Played once originally during a rental period from Blockbuster--liked it but never got it *Played via Wii VC. I liked it but I still think that while this game is great, I was more fond if the first Contra. Secret of Mana Played it decently originally and got pretty far but I think I quit on the game due to time constraints. What intrigued me about the game was the up to 3 players could play if desired and then the ability that every character could learn every weapon and that mattered if certain needs arose. I also liked the grid you could place your party members on for them to act on their own with their own levels. When this re-released on the Wii VC i got a version what was all mine and played it to the end and beat it. I got all characters fully leveled with all the weapons. I really loved the story, the graphics, the areas you traveled to, the entire game. I've always wanted to play the sequels but never had the opportunity. Earthbound *never played the original *I did play the WiiU VC version when it came out because of all the hype behind it. I can honestly say i tried to get into this game but I never could and I never found it compelling enough to force myself to get back into it do much more with it than I had already done. Super Ghouls N Ghosts OMG... I loved this game.... I almost didn't mind it was annoyingly hard as the music, the graphics, the level design, the "Halloween" theme just got me. Those later stages with all the Mode 7 rotation--especially that stomach level... I mean... damn! I also liked the weapons and armor you could get in the game. My two biggest beefs with the game though were one hit armor loss and that if you beat it, you didn't actually beat it but had to go through the game to find a special weapon and face the boss again.

  10. Things I'm learning from playing SNES Classic: Super Mario World - You can use the shoulder buttons to look forward and backward. Never knew that, having beaten the game multiple times, 100%. Learned it because I actually decided to read the tutorial boxes. Super Mario Kart - Having not played it, I didn't know the title theme for Mario Kart 8 was taken from Super Mario Kart.

  11. Can't say I am all that surprised this is happening. At least they are giving everyone a heads up notice on this instead of just saying "yeah, fuck you guys, were going to cancel it next week." So this gives everyone the opportunity to get their games backed up to SD Cards, spend any remaining points they still might have, or get any other games they never got around to getting on the Wii (especially since a lot of them never made it over to 3DS or Wii U). It will be sad to see it go, lots of memories from VCC with that service.

  13. THE RIBBON CORNER - FALL 2017 With collaboration from my bestie Zeldaru, we'll now be doing overview posts on our personal picks for promising shows of the upcoming season whenever I do a preview. We're not going to be covering picks we feel are mostly obvious though, just ones we think will probably be overlooked in favor of more popular shows so they can gain a bit more spotlight. I'm totally watching Kino's Journey, The Ancient Magus' Bride, and Blood Blockade Battlefront S2 as much as the next guy, but I think this approach is more useful. Zeldaru: Fire:

  14. I used to love Shadows of the Empire; I wonder if it would hold up today. I haven't seen Pilotwings 64 mentioned. For some reason I played that a lot as a kid.
